Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I have bobbled reloads..infact everyone has a bobble from time to time, its the nature of the beast. Grab a spare and carry on, the penalties are an annoyance and while frustrating to have to do it "this way" (which would probably get you killed in the real world) if you want to win you march to the drummer, I will take the penalties and march to my own drummer Thank you and enjoy myself. As far as carry of spares for CCW up to 4 (2 standard) when using a 1911 and 2 14 rounders when carrying a Hi-Power. I don't play averages and Murphy always shows up to crash the party at just the right moment for the other guy.
  2. Full power ammunition requirement and the ability to shoot the course of fire the way I determine it should be done (safety always coming first) not being told how and why. FTDR should be dropped. No walk thru's, this way you have to think your way thru the problem, no auto piloting the course based on your walk thru. If it is your carry weapon and you can show proof (reasonable , on your permit, etc) then you should be able to compete with it, a friend has a 1911 with an added on light rail (carbon steel) and a streamlight 6 light in a pouch on his belt and this is his regular carry gun, but if he were to want to compete at anything but the local levels his 1911 would not be allowed, because he has a bull barrel and a weight (light rail) attached to his dust cover Many of the things I think that could be done or should be done have already been brought up by other posters and I am not going to post them all over again. IDPA has room for improvement...to evolve...if you will and it could become even better.
  3. The Black Talons are still made, they just call them SXT and they make it in the spurred type under the Ranger Law enforcement ammunition (LEO only sales) banner and the kinder gentler model (no spurs) for the general public. (Black Talon, Ranger Talon, Ranger T, Ranger SXT are the various names the spurred design have been listed under) The original Black Talons are actually considered an obsolete design, which has been surpassed by the tweeked and improved SXT's now on the market. That is not to say they won't work, just that there are better designs out there. I have seen the Ranger SXT for sale at various places, it just takes a little searching and they are cheaper than the original Black Talon load too.
  4. North Eastern Minnesota, So close to the border as to almost be in Canada (job related) and standing outdoors in snow up to my........well you can guess Otherwise life is good
  5. Let see....It is somewhere below -40 F last time I looked at the thermometer and with windchill it is a lot closer to -50 F . I could go on, but I would seriously depress the high spirits on this board lately and we don't want that to happen or do we
  6. Get a laptop With a wireless connection at Coffee break, over lunch and while waiting for a new project to be dropped in your in Bin, you can surf to your hearts content and as long as your productivity stays high, none will ever know.
  7. Colt 1911 45 acp, 230 XTP +P (custom loader) is my current load, but stock is getting low and am considering some thing new, probably bonded Golden Saber 230 in +P.
  8. It is truly sad (that this happens) and utterly stupid to interfere with someone who is shooting a firearm. But as my lady has found, there is a lot of buffoons out there. She did point out (she is looking over my shoulder as I type) that any strange person that walks up behind her and starts to massage her shoulders, while she is shooting or about to start, will do it only once and then wake up in the hospital, if they're lucky. I will stand to one side and make no attempt to catch the falling body Now if the body attempts to get up.......... Maybe some of these people are future Darwin Award candidates?
  9. I think the key word is "Duty Gear". Your employer has mandated that your equipment be configured in a certain way and be deployed as such. I could see someone having a complaint, if you had to attach the light after drawing the sidearm, but I can't see how they can allow duty gear/weapon, then say you can't use it because of the way it is configured. Just the way it goes sometimes, I guess.
  10. I have been playing with Norton Internet Security 2004 and while I still get the spam, it is kicked off into it's own little box and anything that makes it thru the spam net, can be designated spam by the user and except for doing a quick run thru, to make sure something I want isn't shuffled off into the spam file, it is click empty spam file and then empty deleted mail. I am still fine tuning the settings, but, so far I like it. It can learn from your own activities (emailings) and the firewall and ad blocking ( which is user adjustable) and the POP up blocker are very good and if a sight has ad's that make it past the system automatic settings you can go after it. Not too say that it is perfect for everyone and I am still learning from mistakes, that I am making, but overall I am happy with it.
  11. Yes, it is the same. AD = Accidental Discharge ND = Negligent Discharge
  12. L9x25, On a sidebar note, with all the anti's running around trying to gut CCW in many jurisdictions, if there was even a limited number of ND's (never mind a lot), you could be assured that the press would grab it and run with it for all they could milk it for, since at first glance it would prove that they were right and the pro CCW were blowing smoke. Have a nice evening and a great holiday season.
  13. Oh,well Was just getting all warmed up for the main event I concur, let us move on to less....shall we say inflamatory subject matter of twisting, bending and stroking the rules Regards ps: anyone know how to turn off this anonymous setting, have went to control center and can't get it turned off
  14. With all due respect, that is a fallacy. The mere fact that it is a hot range is not going to result in the indescriminate handling of said firearms. Who would be constantly handling thier pistol? If the saturation of loaded firearms is going to increase the possibility of a Negligent Discharge, then we should hear about it every night on the news where some CCW holder had a ND at the Grocer or restaurant etc., we don't and can you tell me why? Because they know it is loaded, they are used to carrying it loaded and there is no doubt that it is loaded. The arguement that the presence of several loaded firearms is going to cause or lead to a marked increase in mayhem, death and injury, is such a spurious arguement, same as the one that Shall issue CCW, will result in blood in the streets, shoot out at the local convenience store and a host of other points brought up by those with an agenda or a poor understanding of the concept. That is all I have to say on this subject.
  15. Well, I can understand peoples opinion and the need to feel safe or to be assured of a level of safety, but there are questions I feel that needs to be asked. Do you worry about the possibility of the person behind you in line at the mall or convenience store, having a loaded concealed weapon? They are not under any supervision and who know's what level of training or skills they may posess. Does anyone go jogging or frequent places where there are people running/jogging? They can lose a primary or bug and have it go bouncing on the ground and who knows, it might be a C&L Commander or Officers model or a GM. Again they are under no supervision and who knows thier level of training. If you are so worried on a range or at a match, where the class of shooter, is probably higher than most of the general public, you must be terrified of walking around in public and are doing so with a high level of paranoia. Sound, familiar? Seems that is what you are saying about those who are carrying concealed at the range or during a match. A lot of the appearence of safety comes down to perception, but experience has shown me that even highly secured area's can be breached and safety can be an illusory thing. Even standing in an area full of people armed to the teeth and highly trained, is no garauntee of safety. Just my opinion
