  1. I use the simple Blade-Tech Revolution AR mag pouch. It can be used bullets facing backwards or forwards. Try working the process in reverse to find out what works best for you. With the rifle shouldered, take the magazine out with your loading hand and lower it to your preferred mag pouch location. What feels most natural? Run with that.
  2. I dig the Miculek...its inexpensive and it just works. Others may be "better", but with this comp on my rifle I almost feel like I'm cheating.
  3. They don't have to go hand-in-hand - but they work very well together. If choosing one mod to start, weld the lifter. As for reliability, find a good gunsmith or custom shop with experience. There is another modification to consider: the shell latch. My M2 was very hard to load at first. The welded lifter helped, but tweaking the bend in the shell latch helped the most. There are several threads and resources on this - though you need not cut or grind away metal: just a slight flex (bend is too strong a word) and it makes a world of difference.
  4. Just installed the Dave's Metal Works speedbar onto my M2 this evening. Much smaller than I thought it would be, but it works like a champ. Ran some match saverz practice and it doesn't miss a best.
  5. While we all want the very best, I'd try to keep it fairly low key...unless you are shooting a ton of matches. You mentioned HD. Combined with the insight above, re: more guys shooting 14.5" and 16" for the quick index, I'd say that's your limit. Good comp, good 1-4, good mount and a stock that works for you and you should be set.
  6. The only problem I see in this setup is if you are shooting a long and physically aggressive stage with shotgun last, you may find that it sags or moves around a bit - especially if you have to do any prone rifle work prior to the shotgun segment.
  7. The load 2 rig I use actually has cross shoulder straps as well as a belt which allows me to wear it high or low; it stays put. I usually wear it high - bottom of the panel right above belly button. This keeps it out of the way of your belt-based gear with the advantage of being right above your loading port when doing the weak-hand load 2 roll.
  8. Love the Samson Evolution...I have the Rainier Arms model and it is just great. Can't say enough good things about it and it always turns some heads.
  9. Usually a full strip after every other match with bore snake after every trip to the range. After reading the other responses, I'm seriously considering amending this process.
  10. Got mine locally at ShootersConnection. That little gem is exceptional. Easy install and it flat out works.
  11. I recently underwent the same dilemma of choosing a comp. I read Mr. Kelley's articles and his final analysis on recoil reduction and muzzle movement. I went with the Miculek due to its good ranking in his breakdown and its value price. Took it out and...damn! The gun just doesn't move! Performed comparison with quick double-taps between my Miculek/ALG trigger set-up and a friend's Battlecomp/SSA-E trigger set-up and I still thought the Miculek had less rise and recoil - even with the cheap trigger. Now...to add an SSA-E!
  12. I use a 50/200 zero set with my MTAC. Combined with the iStrelock app (the Burris reticle is included as an option in the app) it's not let me down yet.
  13. I use 3.5 of HP38 with Valiant's 147gr truncated cone flat-point. Light recoil, accurate, cycles/feeds well and hammers steel with authority. Plus the bullets are inexpensive...500 for under $30.
  14. Out of curiosity, what sort of round count are you looking for? 20, 24, 28?
  15. I've not used the 1.5-6, but do have the 1-4 MTAC on my 3Gun rifle. Consider the likely stages at 3Gun matches you might shoot. Are 90% of targets under 100 yards? If so, I'd suggest the 1-4 as it gives you 1x for hosing close targets and works great for my eyes out to 300-400. I have noticed many new and even seasoned shooters at my local matches that use 1.5-6 or 2-7 scopes shoot those closer targets much more slowly...target acquisition difficulties. In my opinion, the 1-4 MTAC is the best of all worlds: runs fast like a red-dot out to 100 and accurate built-in BDC marks for longer distance work. Plus its a GREAT VALUE.
  16. I use the MTAC and it is indeed great for both eyes open hosing. The 1x is similar to the EOTech on my other rifle. But it also gets it done at longer ranges. For instance, at the last match I shot, we had inside 50 yard rifle shots all day...right up until we had 100, 200 and 300 yd shots on one stage. The Burris literature says the first dot under the big dot is 300...but with my load it was actually 286, according to the iStrelok app. So a slightly higher hold and I was ringing the 8" steel at 300. The MTAC is IMHO the best value out there and it gets it done.
  17. I know ZERO about comps - other than I probably need one. Four matches into 3Gun and I'm having a blast, but want to smooth out my rifle follow-up shots. These two comps look remarkably similar - though one is half the price of the other. What's the experience with the AR Stoner model and how does it compare to the SJC? Cost is an issue for me...thanks. AR Stoner on LEFT - SJC Titan on RIGHT
  18. Practice? What the hell is practice? As much as I think I should, there simply isn't time - what with work, two young kids, etc. So I subscribe to Mr. Kelley's response to an interview a year or two ago: "I don't practice - I just go shoot a lot of matches." I shoot steel challenge once a month with my .22 AR and a second run with .22 pistol, I shoot IDPA once a month and I shoot 3Gun once a month. I may spend 15 minutes the night before a 3Gun match working on my shotgun loads. I realize this isn't ever going to make me a pro or semi-pro and I'm fine with that.
  19. I bought one of John's chest rigs and used it at Owensboro today. It is comfortable, light and handy. I hit every reload. I am sold. Will run this next at the PanAm 3 gun next week. Dave Cost? $75 + shipping send me a message if interested
