1. I shoot the Wally World stuff - either the Federal or Winchester bulk packs depending on what's in stock. Usually 7 1/2 or 8, 2 3/4", 3 dram. They all run great in my M2 and I've never had a problem. On the other hand, my friend shooting his 930 has trouble with the bulk stuff cycling the action. So I think it depends on the gun. Buy it - test it. The same is true for Royal Star low-recoil 2 3/4" slugs - run great and are accurate in my M2, but won't cycle his 930.
2. If you can get that rig up on your chest, you might be happier. Much easier work-space with hands staying closer to loading port for both strong-hand and weak-hand 'load 2'. There are some inexpensive MOLLE panels out there with shoulder straps and a belt for under $20.
3. I'm a big fan of the Rainier Arms tubes made by Samson. Same price as OP and super easy to go on. Solid as a rock.
4. Kurt: can you explain a little more on the cam pin lube? I'm guessing not the section down in the bolt where the FP moves through, but rather once assembled a dab of grease on the top of the pin before bolt goes back into shotgun. Is this correct?
5. ^^^^^^^^^ YES!!!! That app is fantastic if you match it to your load and reticle. A must have.
6. The BAD lever does not change your "manual of Arms" . The bolt catch still functions and operates in exactly the same manner as without it. It simply gives you more options. But like anything you must learn to use it proficiently to realize any benefit from it. I find it especially helpful for empty gun starts. It is allowed in tac optic. ^^^^^ 100% agree.
7. It REALLY DOES work. Just get one people!!!
8. I always give a courtesy cover call...the first time. If it's a new shooter, I'll help them and be lenient. If it's an experienced shooter, you get the one and then it's 3 seconds at a time for the rest of the match.
9. Ran an 11-87 for my first 3 gun match and traded it within a week for an M2 and have never looked back. As others have noted, the 1100/11-87 is great for the dove fields or pheasant shoot, but if you want to play strong you've got to have a scattergun that loads fast, shoots fast and has zero reliability issues. The 11-87 loading gate button and fragile O rings were a deal breaker for me, for 3 gun.
10. Running the MTAC 1-4 I zeroed at 50. It provides an excellent crossover at 200-225 with less than 1.5" POI change on inbetween ranges. I then use the istrelok app and set it up with my ammo of choice. For 99% of 3 gun, the difference between a 55 and a 69 is nonexistent. However, when stretching to 300+ you'll need to use the app. The info on the Burris website is extremely general. When using the app, depending on your elevation, etc., you'll see a significant change in your POI compared to what Burris suggests. For example, using my pet load 0-200 is pretty much on. But the Burris suggested 300 dot is really 284; the 600 dot is really 548; and so on. I've found that once you find YOUR load, the combo of the MTAC, the istrelok app and a range finder is truly deadly for long-range 3 gun first round hits.
11. My HBAR 16" 3-Gun carbine with a heavy-ass LaRue mount and 1-4 MTAC is right at 9 lbs.
12. I have to disagree. I don't see how they cannot honor the registrations of those that got through. No matter how you slice it with limited slots some will get left behind.
13. Are you serious or just trying to pull a "Jessie"? 3GN Regionals Registration ClosedDue to the overwhelming response, our systems have crashed, locking most people out from registering for the 3GN Regional Matches.Technicians have been hard at work since the launch, attempting to resolve the problems. However, after 90 minutes, the system is still not operating well enough to handle the demand. So at this time 3GN is closing registration to the Regional matches until the problems are resolved. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience to all.We put this registration on a holiday on purpose—with the intent that family and friends could see our members’ interest and love for the sport of 3-gun. We hoped that each of you could take this opportunity to share the sport of 3-gun. However, this has clearly been a failure on our part. For that we truly apologize. Our team will continue to work on the issues, and we’ll re-launch the registration, one match at a time, at a later date. And we’ll work our tail off to do better next time. Sincerely, Pete Brown, Chad Adams, Charles Sole & Tennille Chidester 3-Gun Nation My membership renewal and registration for the Midwest went through at 11:08pm and this was posted at 11:09pm. Received confirmation receipt for 2014 renewal of $25, but nothing else. We'll see...
14. It did that to me as well. I'm assuming that if your 3GN membership expires before the match date they want you to renew it. I was able to register (I think) for the early one without, but it asked me for my CC info for the one in August. And I presume we have no way of knowing what they'll charge now vs later, ie membership now and fee later? And then probably and me an invoice after charging me! Bummer
15. I should think it would let debris in and possibly compromise the integrity/reliability of the tube. I can't imagine really needing a window if your stage plan is sound and you've ID'd your reload points.
16. I will second the Samson, but suggest the Rainier Arms version.
17. I'd been thinking about such a match using WW2 era weapons. There's a guy at our monthly 3Gun that uses a Garand.
18. I have a 24" M2 with Nordic tube @ 9+1...it is the bomb. It's fast, it's light and 100% reliable. Plus good aftermarket support.
19. I have the ALG ACT installed in my 3-Gun carbine. I ran it for more than a year with the ALG supplied springs. Its a good trigger - better than mil-spec, but no high dollar unit. I installed the JP yellow/red spring kit a few months ago and it made a notable improvement, dropping the pull slightly and smoothing it out. The basic ACT with supplied springs had a slight creep before hitting the single stage. With the JP springs, there is zero creep. Just a clean and lighter single stage break. I opted for the yellow/red package to ensure reliability and its been 100% through several range visits and 3-Gun matches.
20. Here's my Walther HK416D in .22LR that I use for steel matches with a cheap (though effective) UTG red-dot. I know this particular model gets little love (and there are some glaring deficiencies, e.g. faux bolt release, dedicated trigger pack and horribly heavy initial trigger pull), but IMHO its a great little rifle. It is heavy (close to a real AR in weight) and has great ergonomics. Best of all it just runs - and runs - and runs. I didn't clean it for the first 1,000 rounds over 4-5 months and it never missed a beat even after trying 6 different brands and 3 different weights of bullet. Plus, it is extremely accurate. I tore it completely down for cleaning at around 1,100 rounds fired - quite a task. Put it back together and reshot - site only off 1/4" left at 25 yards. It has never jammed, never failed to feed or extract, never had a light strike - nothing. Bill Springfield offers a trigger job on the trigger pack for $49 - brings it down substantially. I see many 10/22s and several M&P22s at our steel matches. The M&Ps usually run fine, but there is ALWAYS a moment in each match where every 10/22 guy is dealing with a jam. http://www.flickr.com/photos/22582304@N00/10272825054/
21. Any round count available? And max target range? I'd like to know this too. I'm eternally low on ammo. Same here; also can anyone share the schedule for each shooting day? Is it divided over 2 days or 3 days for actual competition? Thx.
