My M2 came with the shim kit. At first I shrugged it off: no one needs such things. I'd been shooting "stock" shotguns for 30 years and was always pretty decent. Finally got around to tinkering with the shims and BAM! Makes a world of difference in your poa/poi. But where it really helps is recoil management and the resultant quick transition to the next target.

Did you monkey with the shell latch, i.e. tweak it to load easier? This is pretty common on home tuned M2s - trial and error. If not, perhaps it NEEDS a slight tweak.
-
How do you reload? Single, doubles, quads? Strong- or weak-hand? IMHO the biggest question as to whether to pistol grip or not. Plus, are you used to a pistol grip? As for length, I prefer slightly longer so have a 24" regular stocked M2. Swings better for me and has been 1,000% reliable.

I use Carlson's LM on my M2 and shoot slugs. Perfect operation and accuracy. No problems here.

Prefer the ACS myself...really nice cheek weld and support. -
Almost done buying stuff...the big lie!

Done? Done? I don't know the definition of that word!!!!! I had to start a business on the side just to keep my 3Gun toy addiction fed!!!! -
I bought a new 24" M2 w/ Comfortech a year ago for $1,050. Since then I've added a longer mag tube, clamp, oversized safety, oversized bolt release, new front sight, had the port widened/smoothed, had the grip/forearm stippled, had the lifter welded and added a Match-Saver. All told, I had to spend over $400 extra to get it up to snuff. It is now a bad-ass beast for 3-Gun and I can't imagine using anything else. That said, if I were in the same place today as I was a year ago when I started 3-gun I'd probably find a deal on the 1301 Comp, add a tube and call it good.
-
It depends on the material and finish of the stock. My M2 was relatively 'slick'. The factory pattern just wasn't aggressive enough, so I had the pistol grip and forearm stippled aggressively. I REALLY like it. You definitely have a grip on the gun.

Yes - but it's a moly-coated polymer thingy. Very uniform and even. Good prices too - I'm sold.

Just tried a new brand of 147 gr bullet today: Blue Bullets. Shot from my custom 5" M&P Pro: 3.1 grains of HP38 COL - 1.135" Avg velocity: 805 fps / 118,335 3.3 grains of HP38 COL - 1.135" Avg velocity: 884 fps / 129,948 I'll probably use this one for USPSA Limited Minor and 3Gun 3.5 grains of HP38 COL - 1.135" Avg velocity: 932 fps / 137,004 All loads were accurate and all cycled the pistol just fine. Bear in mind I'm running a slide that has been lightened a lot.
-
Ok - which one of you wants to start taking orders??? I'll buy a couple!!!
-
Was able to chrono this load. It runs at 899 from my 4.25" M&P. Recently bought a custom M&P 5" in 9mm. Shot same load today and recoil is more in the lightened gun (naturally). Will try to drop it a few tenths and see how that does in 5".
-
I just bought a custom M&P Pro 5" that has had major work done to the slide: lightening ports on sides, contouring to top of slide and an angled nose job. Guess I'll have to experiment!!!!

So the clips are made from Kydex? Very ingenious. I've been looking at various clips already on the market and while a few show promise, this is really sweet.

You are plenty quick with the shooting and your rifle mag change was good (though I'd try not to drop the stock off the shoulder so much). I can't say it was just the shotgun safety that slowed you down, but also the safety engagement on the rifle (and sort of "babying" it into the barrel). That's why I go shotgun first - burn the extra rounds and just throw that thing in the barrel quick; eliminates a step. My best so far on Flying by 2 going shotgun first is 11.08.
-
Did you start with shotgun or rifle? Shotgun start is faster for me since you can burn the extra rounds and dispense with the shotgun safety manipulation; just toss it in the barrel. What part did you feel hung you up? 11.46 ain't bad.

Here is Mod 1 Firearm's work on my M2 - just picked it up this week. Great work!!!!

Great thread. I just chrono'd my go to 3 Gun load today for the first time. Been shooting it for a year with long-range and hoser success, but never measured. 55 gr FMJ BT from a big box of 1,000 loose. 23 gr of H322 making 2710 avg. With my heavier barrel and brake, the rifle just doesn't move - up, down, forward, back - nothing. I like the load a lot.

Homemade "load 2" shell caddys

Those are cool clips. How does the gap between each fit the fingers? Are you planning to mount that on a belt a Tek-Lok or some such attachment? I may have to give those a try. I bet a little removal of material between clips might make it quad-able....maybe. I just love ingenuity of 3Gun DYI. -
Two words - safety location.

Steel Challenge with AR 22lr Question?
KY1911 replied to Blue Jacket's topic in Rifle & Shotgun - Technique
Yes - my .22LR AR is not exactly setup the same as my 3Gun rifle, but it's close enough that it has dramatically upped my rifle game in 3Gun matches - especially anything 50 yards or less. You learn how to do target-to-target transitions very quickly. -
I really like my Sigs (a 220 and more vintage 1990 German 228). I've never felt at any disadvantage shooting the 220 in CDP. But I shot an IDPA match last night with the 228 and the DA first shot was just a pain in the ass. As such, I'll probably be sticking to my M&P9 going forward in SSP.
