Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Have you noticed any abnormal wear or scratches on the inside of the slide, or on the guide rod? I'm trying to decide if I should go this route, or try the buffer. I've got a spare 1911 spring, and some 1911 buffers kicking around. I'm just trying to decide the best option.
  2. Thanks, that's what I was looking for. My 10mm was the one I was concerned with.
  3. Can you post a picture of this? I've got a 10mm Limited, and while I'm not really concerned with far flung brass, I am concerned about slide/frame wear. Some people say to use a heavier recoil spring to protect the frame, but then I've heard that the heavier spring causes more wear on the slide when it returns to battery. What you're describing sounds like the best of both worlds, and I'd like to give it a shot, but I can't quite wrap my head around how.
  4. For what it's worth, make sure that when you order the conversion kit, it is in stock and that the packaging is opened to ensure that it is actually a large frame. EAA had a run of 22LR conversion kits labeled as large frame, but when opened, where shipped from Tanfo with small frames inside. I purchased mine in Oct 08 and ran into this, it's now March 09 and EAA is still waiting for large frame replacements from Tanfo . . . . My standard Witness (.45) came with a .22lr conversion kit. I don't think I've ever gotten a full magazine through it without multiple FTF or FTE's. It might be a question of ammo (I've only used bulk pack SV cheapie ammo in it), but it's just never worked for me. It cracks me up because the .22 upper that doesn't work has better sites than the .45 upper that's never given me a problem.
  5. Well I wish I had asked this question before I ordered the mags from you yesterday. The ones in the bags were 10lb and 12lb, but I still don't know what the one in the gun is. I'll probably be ordering some springs from you shortly (I forgot to order some slide glide too). Any idea what I should do until I order the new springs?
  6. He's trying, but with the housing market doing what it's doing, he's having a hard time with it. Thank's for the replies everybody. It looks like he's just going to go the easy route and get the .45.
  7. I just got a 10mm Limited, and it came with 3 different recoil springs. 2 were in labeled plastic bags (labeled for weight), but there's no mention of the wieght for the one that's in the gun. Has anybody got any idea what it is, and which one should I be using for factory ammo (mostly UMC, but I have 100 rounds of American Eagle)? I can't find any mention of it on EAA's site, or Tanfoglo's (although I had a hard time navigating it). I'll be handloading after I use up the factory ammo I have (about 500 runds), and could use a recomendation for which one to use at that point as well. Any help would be grtly appreciated.
  8. The state ban (which is permanent) went into effect during the federal ban ('98 I think). It doesn't necessarily need to be a date. Some will have a code (like HK), or just the way they were made (Glock mags have no date, but you can tell pre vs post ban by the configuration of the mag). If there is no way to tell, then I'm pretty sure he'll be in the clear (tie goes to the runner), but he's adamant about not doing anything that could potentially get him into trouble. Do you have any witness mags that you've had for 15 years to compare? I've only had mine for about 5, so I don't know what to look for. Here's the different Glock magazines for an example (Photo taken from Glocktalk) Number 1 through 4 are preban, 5 and 6 are during the ban, and 7 is post ban. The easiest thing to look for is the caliber stamp. If there is none you're fine, and if it's low you're fine. I have a ban era 10mm Witness mag, and I can't see any markings on it, so I guess it would come down to design differences.
  9. I think protection (trap) is when you have 2 man teams on each station, first guy calls and shoots, if he misses the second guy shoots. 1 point for first shooter hit, 2 points for second, 3 points for a miss, lowest score wins, alternate who calls between stations, and I think it's 3 birds to a station. We have a game called the "ding" at my club. Line as many people up on the line as you'd like (between stations is fine). First 3 shooters from left to right prepare to shoot in order at the same bird first shooter calls for the bird and shoots hit=safe miss 2nd shooter shoots hit=ding for first shooter/miss=1st shooter safe if miss, 3rd shooter shoots hit=ding for first 2 shooters/miss=first 2 shooters safe if all miss, or first shooter hits, second shooter calls followed up by next 2 if second shooter hits, third shooter calls followed up by next 2 if third shooter hits, fourth shooters calls followed up by next 2 everytime you get a ding you move all the way to the left if you shoot at a dead bird you get a ding if you shoot out of turn you get a ding 3 dings and you're out until there's one shooter left When you get to the last 2 guys it can drag on, so we'll have them start from low ready, or shift back and forth between the 16 and 27 if it doesn't seem to be going anywhere. It's a little complicated, but once you get in a rythm it's a really fun game.
  10. Does anybody know if there are "Preban" magazines available for the Witness, and if there are how you would tell the difference? I've got a buddy who lives in Massachusetts and wants a Limited in the worst way. They have a state assault weapons ban, but mags that were made prior to '94 are exempt. He'd like a 9mm, or 10mm, but if he can't get full cap mags he'll probably just get a .45 (he seems to really want the 9). Any info would be greatly appreciated.
