FN SLP Mk 1 - What Mods and accessories for 3-gun?
sierra77mk replied to jasonk_jasonk's topic in Shotgun - Technical
It might with some mounts but I think the center of the dovetail groove is deeper (farther down from the top of the rail surface than picatinny. So a proper "conversion" of the rail would mean removing material from the top surface to lower the mount so it clamps up better in the dovetail. -
FN SLP Mk 1 - What Mods and accessories for 3-gun?
sierra77mk replied to jasonk_jasonk's topic in Shotgun - Technical
Old thread but new info. I thought the same thing and wanted to do this too. Burris's fastfire mount will NOT fit this rail. Burris lists it as a "Weaver/Picatinny" mount but there is no way this will fit weaver. Burris customer service said "we've never made anything to fit weaver". The cross pin is to large for weaver slots .125 slot vs .147 pin And the weaver dovetail groove is deeper, meaning the picatinny dovetail clamping surfaces do not mate properly. I've looked into this and contacted many manufacturers even EGW but this 20 year old weaver rail just has no adapter or mount option to fit reflex sights. -
SX2/SLP Help - Lifter intermittently not lifting
sierra77mk replied to jh3g's topic in Shotgun - Technical
For the sake of others' I'll answer my own questions. A call to Browning answered everything. The browning Gold is basically the same beast with a modified shell lifter etc... Part # B11163341 The O-ring is called the Forearm spacer ring. Which customer service said is a very bad description of what It does. The gold ring around the mag tube was added for a couple of years and then removed. "that has come and gone" was how the CSR described it. And he said the flaking of the protective coating is nothing to be concerned about. Best source? Browning/Winchester parts department! Shipped the same day and were Way cheaper than brownells or Midwest Gun Works. FNH? Well I never got thru to a human in the parts dept. Always a recording with no returned call. Part # B111628311 Carrier Dog Spring. This gets interesting. The Carrier Dog Spring story... I removed the Glock spring hack that I used for a couple of years. They had collapsed to an OAL of 1.22" and had become unreliable. Works in a pinch but I won't do it again. A new Winchester spring is 1.35" and the wire gauge is .024" The new Browning spring measures 1.95" and is .020 gauge. So the Browning spring is 1/2 inch LONGER than the winchester spring which made installation on the carrier dog spring guide a chore. Used hemostats to clamp and slide and that worked well. Longer spring with smaller wire so It does not give any coil binding. Springs are still priced at 2013 prices, $1.25. I ordered 5 of them. In addition to the O-ring and carrier dog spring, I ultrasonic cleaned my piston. Tested a box of light handloads, buck and factory trap and ran fine with all the changes; but the Carrier dog spring was 90% of my reliability problems at my last 2 matches. The lifter just has more snap with fresh springs. -
SX2/SLP Help - Lifter intermittently not lifting

I am in the process of rebuilding & tuning up my SX2. What is o-ring part called that is in the barrel gas housing? I cannot find anything called a seal or o-ring etc... on parts lists or diagrams. Mine is 20 years old and a bit chewed up. I think I have an early model before the gold colored ring was added to protect the mag tube from gases. And the temperature protective coating on my mag tube is flaking off in some places. Any solutions other than replace it? Also where is the best source of parts for SLP/SX2/Browning gold parts these days -
California Competition Works still in business?
sierra77mk replied to cas's topic in Gear & Accessories
I need to replace one of their nylon universal double pistol mag pouches which I lost, and I found the same thing. It looks like they are out of business but still have a webpage listing other retailers who carry(ed) their products?! Probably had remaining inventory, paid for their domain for a couple years, and now they are sold out. And "3-gun gear" website cannot be found either. I thought they made a similar product back in the day. But any suggestions on another company that makes a similar pouch would be appreciated. -
UPDATE: Pleasantly Surprised! 100 yds 6X scope 18" White Oak 18" SPR 1:7 23.4 gr IMR-4895 Rem 7.5 Primer LC Cases 5 shot group .910" (4 hole cloverleaf of .410 with one dang flyer!) 5 rounds same load same day with Hornady 75's & Winchester primers gave me .610" Call me nuts but the hornady 75's work better for me with Winchester primers. For the price they are fine for my purposes. I would have been happy with 2moa Did not chrono. I usually load Varget but rising prices have pushed me to use up some 4895.

Has anyone tried the Speer 75 grain TMJ for accuracy? I have seen only one test on youtube and it was just "ok" for practice but that was one guy with one video. I think this is Speer's 75gr practice version of their 75gr Gold Dot. I use hornady 75's for matches but the Speers were a little cheaper.

So most competitive shooters using the M&P's know that the big "Duck Bill" factory magazine base pads catch on everything. Especially when grabbing them for reloads. So we replace the base pads, or do like I did and take them to the belt sander to slim down that 3/8" lip. I tried this for the M&P .22 which I use for practice and found that it really doesn't work because of the hollow/sunken in bottom of the .22 magazines. I filled in the hollowed out part with some rubber but it looks funny. So does anyone know if some company makes 3D printed replacements that don't have the huge duckbill lip on them?

I do not have any 2.0 models, all my M&P's are 1.0 so I am asking a question based on observations at the LGS and from photos/videos. The question is: Could a 2.0 slide have the small "wedge" slide-lock-notch machined out to the larger "rectangle" type of the original 1.0 slides? It appears like this would be the only change needed to run a 2.0 slide on an old 1.0 frame and have the slide lock function normally. But again, I have no experience with 2.0 models.

Ed Brown 8rd .45acp magazines (model 848) and magwells?
sierra77mk replied to sierra77mk's topic in 1911-style Pistols
Update: They work fine. And let me say these mags have the slickest most polished finish of any brand of magazine I have ever used. Very good quality. -
I went back to .45 because I have lots of .45 components and my small pistol primer supply is getting a bit scanty.

Hello I have several Wilson Combat 10rd "Bureaucrat" Magazines. I have rebuilt them at least once but what I find annoying is the springs are fine. It is the plastic follower that fails. The slide stop shelf gets chewed up and will not lock the slide open. I know the easiest answer is buy rebuild kits from Wilson but my other 1911 magazines with METAL FOLLOWERS have NEVER FAILED. Wilson gets premium prices for plastic parts. Trip Research has a "Hybrid" follower that has a metal insert exactly where the Wilson part fails. Has anyone used these followers? Or any metal followers which will work with Wilson mag bodies?

Thank you for this info! S&W would not send me the part and requires the pistol be sent in since this is a "factory installed part"?! So I ordered one from MGW. Part #396470000 Midway also lists part #396470000 and reviewers comment this an original type without the tactile reset bumps. Other part numbers for the Slide Stop Assembly: Old 2012 S&W parts list shows 390460000 (OBS) and 393680000 no OBS in parentheses. I believe OBS indicates OBSOLETE. And I've found 424270000 And 440990000 on MGW's web site And the customer service rep told me the part which would be installed is 4232800000 So there surely have been several iterations of this part.

On the one with the broken spring. What is that little welded on "pad" in the arm next to the mag follower tab? Are these both from GEN 1.0 guns? None of my 1.0's have this raised pad.

I noticed my 45 has a pin, sear pivot pin I guess, sticking out the right (red circle). Is this normal? 45 on left, 40 on right. The 40 frame has plastic in the space where the pin protrudes on the 45. The 45 has the frame plugs where the safety levers would go but Is something missing on the 45?

Took the nightstand gun out and found the slide locking back on almost every round in the mag! The Slide Stop spring lost almost all downward tension and would bounce up & lock the slide under recoil. I've spread it out so the tension is back but does anyone sell just the spring? I only see Slide Stop ASSEMBLYs listed. I guess because the spring is pinched/crimped in place. Also this model (40)has a plain colored spring whereas my other models 9's & 45 have yellow paint on the spring. Has this part undergone a revision indicated by the paint? Or maybe my paint is worn off... Please advise.

I'm not aware of anything that can be done to the trigger on the M&P22's. I bought a dawson fiber front sight to mimic my competition 5" and left the rear stock.

I've had good results with heavy bullets 168-173-175 in .308 using H414 which the internet (and Hodgdon's latest manuals) show have the same data as W760.

Tight Kimber Rear Sight. How do I drift it?
sierra77mk replied to sierra77mk's topic in 1911-style Pistols
This is not moving after penetrating oil overnight and a steel a punch and a 3 pound hammer! I will decide what I need to do now but it will likely be like sheepdog said, cutting the sight out and replacing. Internet search finds the same thing about these sights. Installed @ Kimber with a "2 ton press" etc.. What's the point of the set screw I now wonder... -
I have never had a problem drifting any other sight on any other make of a pistol. This is a Kimber Classic Custom. No firing pin block etc. Removed 1/16" Allen Set screw (of course) which was loose anyway, but I cannot get this thing to drift. I have a huge bench vice so it is held solid, & I tried bigger hammers, then I tried to heat it, but no go. And will try overnight soaking with Kroil but are these things known to be a bit*h to move?

Thank you but to be clear I did abandon that browser, otherwise I wouldn't be able to communicate in this fashion. I am giving feedback to you of the BUG that I could not see the photos which I uploaded. And I giving feedback of a BUG that I cannot see a preview of my post before I commit to it. Am I mistaken that this forum used to allow a preview before clicking "SUBMIT TOPIC"? Every other forum I use has this feature so one can preview formatting etc. I was eventually able to attach photos on a third post but two tries were unsuccessful. I do knot know if there is a bug in attaching by "dragging', "choose files", or something else with the down arrow selection called "other media" but I tried it twice in the manner I have always used and twice it failed..
-
Perhaps but why does the code work for the other two fields but not the body topic? And what of the other problems I referenced? ALSO where is the PREVIEW choice before I choose SUBMIT TOPIC? And now I cannot see the photos I've attached. It acted as if the post was uploading them but no photos in my for sale advert.

On an older version of Firefox on another computer, the field that I am typing this in right now is a skinny sliver and will not highlight with mouse or tabbing. So I could not post anything in the forums. I simply had a skinny white bar with rounded corners, and the word REQUIRED in red above it. The TITLE and TAGS boxes look and work just fine. Fix the Topic box or whatever this box is called and it will be fine. Otherwise its broken. ALSO where is the PREVIEW choice before I choose SUBMIT TOPIC? And now I cannot see the photos I've attached. It acted as if the post was uploading them but no photos in my for sale advert.

I was cleaning my 9pro today and saw wear on the top trigger radius where the barrel lug is arched below the locking lug. This thin arch of the barrel has been wearing the aluminum trigger. My guess is I have 12-13k rounds since putting in the trigger. Is this normal for Apex aluminum triggers?
