  1. My trips to LA typically gets 32 mpg with that Camry. But I didn't mention, that was usually 400 miles in 5 hours. I really don't know what kind of mileage it would have done if I gone the speed limit. The only time I got crappy mileage from that car was when it was packed with 3 people, 3 bikes on the roof rack, one bike, 4 sets of wheels, and luggage. It did 21 mpg and 100 mph was the fastest it would go on a downhill. Diesel is the way to go except for the government and oil companies screwing everyone over. Diesel is easier to produce, yet they charge more for it. Go figure.
  2. But you could do that with the 4 cyl Camry. The 96 Camry I had, was still getting 32 mpg when I got rid of it at 247K miles on the engine. It usually used 2/3 of the tank to drive 400 miles from Sacramento to LA. I did it in 1/2 tank once when I had a nice tailwind and drafted off of every semi-truck that was speeding. From the other thread I posted on: Toyota Camry LE in 4 cyl vs. Camry hybrid $21,225 vs. $25,350: Difference of $4,125 26 mpg avg 50% city/50% hwy vs. 33.5 mpg 3846 gals to 100K mi vs. 2985 gals $15,384 to 100K mi @ $4/gal vs. $11,940: Difference of $3,444 So you would have $681 in your pocket for not buying the hybrid. The only time hybrids become more favorable is if you do a lot of city miles. If you only drive <10,000 miles a year and change cars every couple of years, you will lose money on the hybrid.
  3. Applying logic here. Since we have to compare comparable cars. Toyota Camry LE in 4 cyl vs. Camry hybrid $21,225 vs. $25,350: Difference of $4,125 26 mpg avg vs. 33.5 mpg 3846 gals to 100K mi vs. 2985 gals $15,384 to 100K mi @ $4/gal vs. $11,940: Difference of $3,444 So you would have $681 in your pocket for not buying the hybrid. Having owned a Camry, the actual mpg for the 4 cyl is about 30 mpg average. Toyota Corolla LE vs. Prius $16,650 vs. $21,100: Diff $4450 31 mpg vs. 46.5 mpg 3226 gals vs. 2151 gals $12,904 to 100K mi vs. $8604: Diff $4300 $150 in your pocket for not buying the hybrid. You really don't save money by buying a hybrid if you drive less than 100K miles.
  4. A McLaren F1 is still faster AND more efficient. The McLaren can get 26 mpg highway.
  5. Nope. Don't even own a Glock. I would bet Colin Chapman would be rolling over in his grave if he saw someone do that with his car. Tesla 248 hp, curb weight 2690 lbs, 10.8 lbs/hp Lotus 216 hp, curb weight 2006 lbs, 9.3 lbs/hp I can't help it. I have to use logic, I'm an engineer.
  6. Let see here: Tesla: Price: $109,000 0-60: 3.9 sec Top Speed: 125 mph Range: 220 miles Lotus Elise SC Price: $54,500 0-60: 4.4 sec Top Speed: 150 mph Range: 240 miles If you buy a Lotus, you can spend $54,500 on fuel, funny how it is exactly half the price of the Tesla. Say fuel was to cost $5/gal, that would be 10,900 gals. At 23 mpg average, that's 250,700 miles you could have driven. Hard to justify an electric car when the gas version is just as good for half the price.
  7. It's a thin sheets of fabric and I think is held together by velcro since it is designed to separate when hit. There have been a few incidents where things have gone wrong. I can't remember who hit the pylon and had the fabric wrap around the wing. He lost lift on the wing and the plane did a full roll before the fabric flew off. Think about it, doing a snap roll at 20 feet off the water. Last year at the race in Utah, one guy hit the pylon at the base. The base has a bunch of support straps and ISN'T designed to come apart. He suffered some damage to the plane. He was pretty lucky since he almost hit the ground, missed it by less than a foot.
  8. I was there when they came to San Francisco 2 years ago. They do have a two seater. Scott Speed, when he was still racing F1, got a ride with Peter Besenyei. They do pull pretty high G's. Mike Mangold was routinely pulling 10+G's without a G suit. He did wear a G suit last year in one of the races where he was pulling over 11 G's. None the less, when you spend 80% of the race pulling 8-10 G's, still quite tough.
  9. Definitely get her a smaller airsoft. USP is about the big grip you can get on the market.
  10. Unfortunately, the government standards are different than what you and I have. I work for a company that gets a lot of defense contracts and they are all a major PITA. The reason everything for the government cost more especially military specific stuff, is all the CYA (Cover Your Ass) stuff. Everything has to have a paper trail. Even the ink that is used to stamp the part number on the part must have a paper trail stating who made it, when it was made, which batch was it made on, what was used to make it, when it expires, and often times an independant test report of the ink. Even a plain old zip tie where you can buy 1,000 for $10, $0.01 each, will cost you about $0.25 for the military spec version. Is it any different than the one you buy at the store, probably not. But the one from the store can't be traced back to who made it, when it was made, who they got the plastic from, well you get the idea.
  11. I had mine done by Connecticut Precision Chambering. This guy does a really good job and not that expensive. http://www.ct-precision.com/
  12. Could be worse, here in Kalifornia, they are trying to pass a bill that limits you to ONLY 50 rounds PER MONTH.
  13. Hmm, I posted a gun picture before and didn't get banned. What forum was it posted on?

  15. No, originally it was on the IPSC Prod list, but IPSC removed the P7 along with the XD at the same time considering the trigger as Single Action. USPSA kept it on the list though. It is not the gun to use if you want to practice for the steel challenge. Match - Okay. Practice - no. If you are practicing a certain stage, at 50 rounds the gun is warm. At 100 rounds, the gun is hot. At 150 rounds, the gun is really hot. At 200 rounds, you'll get a blister on your middle finger if you can still hang onto the gun.
  16. I'm not sure if that is better than the kids sucking on passifiers during my senior year in high school about 14 years ago.
  17. Many people don't realize all this additive crap they put in fuel only takes away from fuel economy. If they put 10% additives into the fuel which in theory would burn 10% cleaner, but your car will get 10% worse gas mileage. So you burn 10% more fuel to drive to the same location, poluting the environment the same amount as if you put fuel without the additives. If the entire US use one blend of fuel, fuel cost wouldn't be so high due to ease of production. Unfortunately, each state has their own blend of fuel and variations with summer and winter blend.
  18. They even made the nightly news. http://www.spikedhumor.com/articles/147773...Full-Story.html

  20. It only bans HANDGUN ammo. Nothing about rifle and carbine ammo. That was the trick at K-Mart a while back. They won't sell you ammo for a handgun so you just tell them it's for a rifle.
  21. All those moves are done with lots of computers. Sean D. Tucker can do all that and more with his bi-plane that has no computers or thrust vectoring or canards.
  22. You forgot about the doors falling off the Coast Guard helicopter mid-flight. My last business trip to Eurocopter in Grand Prairie Texas, I worked with a guy who was busy building about 400 doors for the Coast Guard. The controversy is the fact the military changed their specifications. They told one to build a small tanker and one to build a large tanker. Large tanker won. This is kind of like the ACR competition. Military told everyone to build the next advance combat rifle. Steyr had their flechette firing rifle. HK had the G11 firing caseless ammo. The US submission was the M16A2. Well that's one way to eliminate the competition. Just have them build something completely different.
  23. Set up the computer so only you have adminstrator privileges. That way he has no way to install any programs.
