  1. Anyone know if this would be legal in production?

Should be OK. Here's the book:

    http://www.uspsa.org/rules/2010HandgunRulesProof3web.pdf

My order from Apex was received in less than a week.

Parts dropped right in and work very well.

Fair prices, great products and great service!

I can't wait for their next new product to be released.

My wish list is a .22 conversion and a trigger bar to reduce pre-travel.

  2. In reading the response about the light springs and the slide not fully seating. Is it possible for a gun to fire when it is not in battery?

I'm sorry for going off topic, again.

But to answer this question, I had eight "light strikes" during this match. Which means the primers, CCI, had dimples but didn't ignite. Further inspection showed that the slide wasn't fully LOCKED in battery but the striker hit on the primer fully closed the slide but didn't set the primer off. Had it been a Federal primer it may have had a different result.

IMHO, Yes, The striker can release when not fully locked in battery.

  3. oh I thought factory was 15...what is it? 17?

    According to Wolff it's a #16.

The #13 I bought was from Brownells. it was an ISMI.

    G-Man,

I liked the spring tester. Maybe during the cold winter nights ahead I may play with that project. Thanks!

I'm sorry for high jacking the thread.

Please let's get back to the ammo for the OP.

  4. 11? :surprise:

My gun barely wants to close with a 13#. I went back to stock.

    +1

With a 13# in my Pro, if I shook it too hard, it would come out of battery. I didn't think it was worth taking the chance of blowing it up, in my hand.

    +2

I tried a #13 in my full size M&P and had "light strikes" on my primers, or so I thought during the match. When I inspected it later I found that it wasn't completely in battery and I'm glad they didn't fire. I'll stick to the factory or maybe a #15 but no #13 anymore.

  5. I noticed two suggested botach. Have you guys ordered anything from them before. Reason is I placed an order for mags from them on the August 9 and still dont have them. I emailed and called them and still havent heard anything. Anyone else ever have this problem.

I'm sorry to read you're having problems from Botach. I've read both good and bad about them on http://mp-pistol.com/boards/ but decided to try them anyway and have always had good service. In the last two years I've placed orders for mags and clothing, four or five seperate orders, and everything was delivered promptly.

  6. The federal primers are just to remove one more possibility during a match, light strikes or not. One less issue to worry about.

I am keeping the spring to 15lbs, but the wife had several light strikes with the stock spring, so go figure.

I do plan on adding Federal primers to my major match only reloads, if and when available. I plan on doing inventory very soon and placing an order in, understanding it will be "backordered" but at least I'll be in line. :D

  7. nobody using clays and 147s but a-g and myself? surely not, dont be shy

I use Clays in many things but never with 147gr FMJ 9mm.

For that combo I use 3.4gr of Titegroup. It meters very well, shoots soft and it's listed on the Hodgdons chart as being within acceptable charge weights.

  8. When the first "light strike" happened. A Master class shooter / gunsmith on our squad said the same thing, switch to Federal primers for major match's. So I was thinking it was a primer issue when it happened again and again.

On the long ride home I just couldn't believe that after shooting over 12K of this lot # of CCI primers I could run into a bad tray of primers. I had shot a steel plate match the week before without a single problem and the only thing I had changed was the recoil-rod/spring, it had to be the problem. I called the Master / gunsmith and asked if it could be a striker spring issue or recoil spring issue. He suggested I try another striker spring to see if that corrected the problem but didn't feel the #13 recoil spring could be the cause.

I got home and took the gun apart. All extra rounds chamber checked fine even after shooting about 140 rounds during the match. Striker and spring looked OK. Slide worked smoothly until I put a loaded mag into it. When chambering a round it stopped just short of the barrel locking into the slide, with a light shake it completely closed. I repeated this several times then put the stock recoil spring/rod into the gun and it chambered every time.

This gun won't be seeing that #13 spring ever again.

Thanks for your feedback and Federal primer suggestion.

  9. I used a 1/4" socket to unscrew the hex end while the base end was held and the spring held compressed.

Last week I installed the #13 ISMI spring and it seemed to work well while test firing around 50 rounds.

Unfortunately while using this set-up at the Midwest Regional Backstoppers IDPA match I had around eight light primer strikes and had to rack the slide real quick to eject the round.

I didn't figure out the problem until the match was over and it too late. I'll be using the factory #16 or aftermarket #15 from now on.

  10. There really is no answer.

Looks like you found your answer with the 9L. Congrats!

If someone was to buy the 40Pro and the $130 Storm Lake 40SW/9mm barrel, & a few 9mm mags (for practice and plinking) they'd have an option available for shooting major in the future.

Many of our local shooters have gone to shooting 40SW loads for IDPA ESP/SSP and shooting USPSA Production (minor). I'm shooting 40SW now because my old eyes can see the hits better. IF the new gun owner ever decided to shoot USPSA major they'd already have the gun. Sure, they added $200 for the conversion barrel and mags but it's cheaper than buying another gun.

Yes, 40cal bullets do cost a little more than 9mm. I prefer to shoot 147gr 9mm bullets, more "push" and less "snap", than the lighter bullets. I also like the 155/165gr 40SW bullets, so the price difference is very minimal when you compare bullet prices. IMHO.

  11. I am looking at purchasing a new pistol and I am asking for opinions and suggestions as to the pro's and cons of an M&P pro in 40 or 9. I am on the fence on which caliber to get so I thought I would ask here.

I currently shoot a Springfield XD in .40 so logistics wise it would be easier as I should be able to purchase components for, load up, and keep track of one ammo type.

I have also heard several people say that in the long run shooting 9mm is cheaper but in looking at the cost of the die set, caliber swap/plate for my 550b it will take a while to recoup that cost. In looking around, the 9mm bullets on average seem to be about .03 cheaper per bullet than the 40.

If there is any consideration I have left out here please let me know.

Suggestions and opinions are welcome :)

A long while ago I bought the M&P 9FS, then the 9 compact, and then the 40SW FS.

If I were buying today I'd get the 40 Pro then buy a Storm Lake 40 to 9mm conversion barrel and a few 9mm mags.

The 40 would be for matches and the 9mm would be for cheaper practice.

    I reload so ammo isn't a factor.

    JMHO

  12. Looking for a fix: my 2+ yr old kwa g17 blows out all the gas from the mag when the trigger is pulled. Happens with all 3 mags so I'm guessing it's something with the internals of the gun? I recently switched from green to propane. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you contacted KWA yet? I've had good luck with their service.

I ruined a M1911A1 by using Crest automotive 100% silicone. It swelled a seal and etched some plastic. KWA fixed it under warranty and now I only use airsoft branded lube. Here's the link I have for KWA.

  13. I was the one that didn't knock down the popper. Now I'll load hotter for USPSA.

Since that's the way they run their matches, I'll adapt.

The rest of my 132PF ammo I'll use for IDPA.

    Since we're talking ammo.

I have some 180gr loads that are very accurate, for me.

So, during a match if the COF has some long range shots, may I switch ammo as long as the ammo will make the PF? IMHO, hotter heavier ammo works very well for 25yrd plus shots.

I haven't found anything in the rules that state that I can't use hotter ammo.

  14. I will be doing alot more steel shooting this season(Rocky Mountain Steel Challenge, Glock Only Match(alot of steel), and possibly the Pro AM). I've mainly been shooting a 124 grain Rainier JHP with a PF of 129 OAL 1.075. I recently started loading 147 gr. fn bullets with PF of 130 OAL 1.085. I have not shot alot of steel but what I have shot both of these loads seem to work very well. My question would be which bullet would be better for shooting multiple stages of steel. I feel comfortable shooting both rounds in IDPA matches, both rounds seem accurate enough with a SD of less than 10. So for the seasoned steel shooters what bullet do you prefer? Thanks.

Load some of both and see what works best for you.

When I started loading 9mm I was using 124gr bullets. A friend suggested I try the 147gr for more knock down power on the plates and less muzzle flip. He was RIGHT on both counts! I found, for me, that the 147gr had more of a "push" and the follow up shots were quicker because I had less muzzle flip.

If you use a timer and run thru a few double taps with each ammo you should be able to decide what works best for you.

Please let us know how it turns out for you.

  15. Loaded up some S&S casting 147 LFP with Power Pistol, WSF, Clays and Tightgroup powder. I benched it in my EAA Limited at 25yds as I don't have inserts for this gun for my Ransom Rest. What was amazing was that with WSF powder, my groups were all between 2.32 and 2.35 for an average of 3-10 shot groups at 25yds. Power Pistol was more accurate, but Power Factor was a lot higher also. My mouse fart load was with 2.5grs of Clays, the standard deviation for 30 rounds was a 7. Accuracy was less than 3 inches at 25yds. I attached a jpg chart if anyone wants to see what I did.

    Thanks for the chart.

Do you have any data for Clays?
