  1. I still had a few boxes from the case I bought last Fall (139.99 shipped back then). I ordered a case this past Sat. night for $169.99, shipping included, and I'll have them tomorrow. http://www.bandpusa.com/b-p-slug/ These fit in my AP 4X4 with no problem. I was able to get the Fiocchi 7/8 oz low recoil slugs to fit by loosening the side rail set screws then pushing them apart and tightening the screws. I had to do this with all of my AP carriers and they're good to go with most shells.
  2. Another good idea, thanks for the input. If I opened it up like the OP has in his picture I would look into that course of action. That dremel I mentioned would be perfect for making dimples for set screws to seat. The Arrendondo seems to be made of nylon, I could be wrong, and I'd be a little concerned how the screws would hold up. I expect to abuse this piece quite a bit and it really isn't that thick or wide to begin with. Having a large piece of micarta might help. I'll probably just try to find a good tap and a 6-32 screw like JKW has done. His gun is a working unit and looks like the way to go.
  3. Yea, I thought about that but plan to wait until after this upcoming SG match in Sparta before I heat things up. If I break anything I doubt I can get anything out of Mossberg in time to make things right. Thanks for the input.
  4. I tried the 5/64" carbide and it barely scratched the surface, luckily I picked up a #7144 diamond point dremel bit. I worked the front and then the back side, wetting it with some friction defense lube, untill I had a small hole thru it. Then tried the carbide bit again with no luck so I worked the hole until the #43 bit would fit thru. While try to tap the hole it was obvious it was too small so I opened it up some more. During tapping of the hole I had to back off the tap about every 1/6 of a turn. Keeping the tap wet with thread tapping oil it seemed like I was making progress but then the tap broke. I was able to get the broken piece out and opened up the hole a little more before trying the second tap. This time all that happened was destroying the thread on the tap. Apparently the first one was a bit harder since even the broken piece had decent threads visable where the second one was just ruined. I tried using the provided screw from the bolt release but stopped when it was obvious I was just going to damage the threads. Project on a hold at this point. I put the gun back together and did some practice today.
  5. The label on the stock was the first thing to be gone when I got my JM Pro. After 14 months I've run over 4K thru mine. Two local 3 -gun matchs, a few practice 3G matchs and a whole lot of trap to just give the gun some trigger time. (highest was a 24, avg. 20) After reading this forum and seeing that Benny has backed off his support (IIRC, he's not doing any new work on them), plus my own dealings with the Mossberg support system for spare parts, it's hard for me to suggest that someone buy a JM. Recently, I was asked that question and I recommended a VM and told them what I just posted above. I'm no 3 gunner, just a guy that likes shoot and tinker with guns. I was happy to read that BJ also uses a JM for his 3g shotgun. http://bjnorris.com/my-equipment/3-gun/ The real test for me and my JM will be the G3G Practical Shotgun Challenge hosted by the World Shooting Recreation Complex in Sparta, IL July 6-7 2013. I just plan to have two days of fun and hope the weather isn't too bad. Ooops, It's Sparta in the Summer time. Yup. It'll be HOT! For a ittle over $600 it's been real good for me but it really hasn't been tested like many of the other guns out there.
  6. JKW is spot on, this thing is HARD! I finally received more stuff from a local mid state gun supply source, (not happy with their new shipping process), the TiN coated barely scratches this. I used a dremmel with a stone to get a good center started but new bits don't even begin to cut through. Next stop is to a local HW store for 5/64" carbide bit(s).
  7. I doubt Jeremy will post stage details before hand. Here's what he answered when asked about this at another match. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J6_1Pw1xm9U Steve
  8. Release bar and tap arrived today. After reading JKW's message about the screw size the drill and tap are being sent back. The bar came with a 4-40 screw so now a couple of #43 drill bits and a couple of 4-40 taps are on order. Plus a few other items to get to the min. $25 order or get tagged with a service charge.
  9. After seeing this thread I went to Midway and now have some items coming. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/165346?cm_mmc=S_Spop-Email-_-Service_Emails-_-ShippingConf-_-ProductLink and http://www.midwayusa.com/product/352438?cm_mmc=S_Spop-Email-_-Service_Emails-_-ShippingConf-_-ProductLink Parts should be here Friday and a trip to ACE should yeild a screw that'll work. I'll post the results here when I put it all together. Thanks for the idea. Steve
  10. You may want to look into Brittney Shooting Park for future events. http://brittanyshooting.com/ Jeremy and Aaron of Gateway 3-Gun had the first match this past weekend in the new bays. 35 yrds W X 50 yrds D. The berms were just built and the doozer tracks were still rough because they couldn't smooth them out because of the weather but the match was a blast. This should be a coming attraction for more G3G events. Check out this video from one of the shooters. Steve
  11. Thanks for the heads up. Sure enough, right there on the front page: 4.1.4. Conventional wads only, no specialty long range wadding (i.e. Flight Control) is allowed. So, I'm back in search of 00 Buck ammo. I found some Rio for a good price but it's Full power and may not feed in some guns. http://www.cabelas.com/product/Shooting/Ammunition/Shotgun-Ammunition%7C/pc/104792580/c/104691780/sc/104567580/Rio-Buckshot-Ammunition/1595274.uts?destination=%2Fcatalog%2Fbrowse%2Fshotgun-ammunition%2F_%2FN-1100191%2B4294751474%2B4294751476%2FNe-4294751474%2FNs-CATEGORY_SEQ_104567580%3FWTz_l%3DSBC%253BMMcat104792580%253Bcat104691780%26WTz_st%3DGuidedNav%26WTz_stype%3DGNU&WTz_l=SBC%3BMMcat104792580%3Bcat104691780%3Bcat104567580 Any other suggestions are appreciated. Thanks, Steve
  12. I'm in need of some 00. Any brand recommended or source that has in stock? Thanks! Steve Federal Low Recoil with the Flight Control Wad... 8 pellet if you can find it but 9 will do. Thanks Tyler. I found some here: http://sgammo.com/product/12-gauge/50-rd-brick-12-gauge-federal-le13300-low-recoil-8-pellet-buckshot-flitecontrol-wad- Steve
  13. I'm in need of some 00. Any brand recommended or source that has in stock? Thanks! Steve
  14. I don't know of anything In Sparta but others may chime in. I was just at the range today for the Il. State IDPA Match and can tell you that the ride from So. St. Louis County is not too bad. Since your asking, I'd recommend that out of town travelers to book a room in the 63128 / 63129 zip code area. http://maps.huge.info/zipcolors.htm This is a pretty decent area and just about an hour and 15 mins. from Sparta. Steve
  15. I just talked to Trevor at HiViz. He said in their 4 in 1 sight kit there should be 6 screws. (2) 3-56, (1) 5-40, Mossberg Original, (1) 3 X.5, (1) 3 X .6, AND (1) 6-48.. I'll be drilling and tapping for the 3-56. I asked if they sold the front sight set seperately, NOPE!
  16. I just received the same sight and used one of the screws provided in plave of the original sight. Did you use the double face tape or did you drill and tap for the second screw? What is the drill and tap size needed for the other screws they provided? Thank you. Steve
  17. I've been shooting M&P's for a few years, at the local level. I have every part available from Brownell's in my range bag. Plus, I carry a spare gun and have never required any replacement during a match. (Knock on wood) The only parts that I keep on my person when shooting a match are: fiber optic rods, matches, striker assembly, and recoil spring assembly. The ONLY thing I've ever replaced during a match were loose fiber optic rods. YMMV. Steve
  18. I have two compact's, 9 and 40, two FS (4.25") 9 and 40 and one 5" Pro in 40 S&W. If you get the 5" 40 S&W you'll be able to shoot in Production, Limited minor, Limited major and IDPA SSP. The 40 S&W can be loaded to shoot just as soft as a 9mm and you'll really appreciate the 5" barrel. Later you can get a KKM 40 S&W to 9 mm conversion barrel and a few 9 mm mags. Now your shooting IDPA ESP too. Don't forget, down the road, you'll be wanting a SSS ESP mag well and some extended base pads so you'll have 23 rounds of 9 mm when your shooting Limited minor.
  19. I looked at several and went with the Ghost. It works great! http://www.shootersconnectionstore.com/Super-Ghost-Holster-font-colorredRIGHT-HANDfont-P374.aspx
  20. My favorite 9mm load is MG 124g JHP (nope, not plated), 3.7 gr Clays at 1.125" out of a M&P 5" Pro. 133 PF.
  21. I've used Clays for minor with good results but there's no way I'd use it for major. It's just not suited for that job. See for yourself: http://data.hodgdon.com/cartridge_load.asp
  22. I agree that the higher volume powders with a larger min. - max. load range can be more forgiving for any loaders loading error Per Hodgdon website 2.8 to 3.1 for 38 Spl, and 3.2 to 4.6 for 357 mag. http://data.hodgdon.com/cartridge_load.asp . But, I'd like to add that when I first started loading, in 1993, it was with a Lyman turret press, Lee hand primer, two loading blocks, 158gr LSWC and Clays powder. It's a soft shooting, accurate, clean powder and very cheap to shoot. Clays is still one of my most favorite powders and I buy it in bulk. Your question is a good one and I applaude you for entering reloading with great caution.
  23. Yes, the directions link on the sign up page seems kinda weak. If you go to the WSRC home page: http://www.dnr.illinois.gov/recreation/wsrc/Pages/default.aspx Click on the "Directions and maps" link under the Quick Links tab. Then scroll down to the map and click on the "Google" link. This will show a satelite map of the range. Click on the blue "push pin" either on the map or in front of the WRSC address. Once the window opens click on the "Directions" and add your Start address. The weather forecast looks perfect and I'm not going to be able to make it.
  24. Stages will not be posted prior to the match. All rifle will be inside 40 yds for this month's match. Slugs and buckshot have been eliminated for this month's match since many shooters are having a hard time finding them right now. Hope to see you out there! With all rifle shots being inside 40 yards does this mean all the stages will be contained in the regular pistol bays? Will sign-up be at the main Sparta building? Thanks, Steve
  25. Just for grins, see if the "brass" sticks to a magnet. I've run across S&B 9mm brass that was brass plated steel. Now i rake thru my brass bucket with a magnet to pull on any plated fakes.
