I try to start all stages the same except for strange exceptions. For me, that means a barney round from the back pouch then a 170 at the start. My friends make fun of me for it sometimes, especially on like a 6 round classifier, but it is all about mental preparation/rehearsal for the stage. Because of that I have never understood the concept of not dropping 170s.... They are just another magazine, and none of us bat an eye at dropping our other mags.

That being said, I have never used a 155, nor do I think they are necessary. If you like them then great, you do you, but I don't see their utility in general. If the situation dictates it I can run 24 in my 140s for a reload, which gets me back up to 25 in the gun after the load. If it requires more than that, I can use a 170 at 28, though I don't personally like to. Those situations are very few and far between, in my experience. If I put 11 coil springs in my 140s I could probably even get another for 25 in them, but with the 13s I have never changed my springs in two full seasons (as opposed to every few months with a 170). I'm willing to trade an extra round for lower maintenance.

This is what what I do. Recently started to reload to a 155 because we shoot open and can have more ammo than a production shooter.

  2. Give it a bath in motor oil, and shoot a couple hundred rounds through it. Open guns like to run wet. From the picture I can not see any oil. If it's not running out of the slide rails after cleaning it's not enough. When the gun is new and tight it may not want to run on light loads. I would not adjust the extractor or ejector until I was positive that it was broke in.

  3. Go with the CK. Customer service is great and the gun has alot of the parts that you will probably change out on the STI at some point. If you have not owned an open gun before you won't ever know the difference between 9 and 38. I just switch back to 38sc because I liked the recoil impulse of the 38 over the 9. That being said if I had not shot alot of both 9 is the way go.

  4. I tried Nosler bullets. I do not know what kind of copper they use to jacket the bullet but it is soft. Running them through the Dillon I would get about 1 in 10 that were deformed. Used them in practice to use them up. I did not chrono or check to see how accurate they were. Precision Delta and Montana gold bullets are better.

  5. 10gr of HS-6 should be what I would try with 115s.[/quote

Careful loading 10 grains of hs6. The last lot of hs6 I purchased was hot. 9.4 grains out of a super comp made 173 pf. I also had a lot of flat primers. My next order of bullets will be 124's.

  6. AR plate does meet certain chemical profiles. It is the way they are heat treated that separates quality. Cheaper AR plate tends to be surface hard and simetimes laminated. The best thing you do is ask for an MTR from the mill. Sometimes AR can stand for as rolled not abrasion resistant. As rolled does not have to meet the same standard as true AR plate. Hardox 500 is some the best out there but it is not cheap.

  7. Add an ejector and barrel link to the list above. If the barrel is fit properly you will never need the link. But I have seen more then one persons match cut short because of a broken link. I also carry a spare trigger group with thumb safeties fitted just in case.

  8. Go with the CK Arms. The fit, finish, and quality of parts that CK puts in their guns is better. CK'S customers service can't be beat. I purchased their Thunder model in 38 sc 3 weeks ago, shot 1000 rounds through it. The Aftec would not hold adjustment. Sent it in on Monday and had it back on Thursday. I have owned a factory STI and their parts and fit are no where near CK'S.

  9. So full metal framed guns are bad? We should make the plastic guns the only ones you can use because people are made about not being able to find a stock II?

Maybe we should have manufacturer divisions. That way if you shoot a Glock you only compete against Glock, S&W against S&W, CZ vs. CZ, and so on and so forth.

I feel like this is youth soccer where everyone gets participation awards. If we need so many rules so someone gets their award how about an option when you sign up you pay an extra $5 and get your participation award.

    This made me laugh Thanks
  10. Hello: I was just going to say to think about how the mags work and what relationship they have with the ejected round. You may have also noticed that spent cases will come out high and lower or more forward then back each round. It has to do with how the rounds are fed from the mag, a right and left thing stagger. Mags have caused more people to get guns fixed or sold than you can imagine. Good mags can make your life wonderful. Fix them fist then look for other problems. Thanks, Eric

Well I know why I have never had this problem. I change the springs every month, and run the mags through the ultrasonic cleaner every week. When they come out of the cleaner I check and adjust the feed lips if needed. Thanks for the info.
Every month? How much do you shoot?
About 1000 a week so far this year.

Damn! You and Cookie! I don't think I've shot 1000 all year so far!
Yea I will have to slow down after Area 3. The transition from iron sights to a dot took a little more work than I thought it should. I am still shooting slower than I should but my hits have improved a lot.
  11. The ejector throws a small arc about 6 inches out and then down... without a mag a little higher than with mags, the mags that I can trust were all good today. Over all it seems a bit of an anemic throw. I will have a couple of guys watch on Sunday, maybe video. So let's she how she rolls on Sunday before I try the new ejector.

What kind of extractor are you using? Have you pulled it out and cleaned it? Try running a lighter recoil spring. Put some tape on the scope and mount to see how many rounds hit it. You might just need to do some basic maintenance to get the gun running again.

  14. Eric,

Can you explain why the mags would change the ejection of the gun? When ever I have problems with ejection it is either the extractor or the ejector. I would like to know if I am just covering up a mag problem with tuning the ejector and extractor.
