  1. Prs shooters aren't going to spend the money to flute a barrel b/c most run through 1-4 barrels per year. doesn't make sense, just run a smaller contour to save weight in the Ar world you don't have as many options on your barrel contour so fluting can make sense, plus ar barrels are a lot cheaper and usually guys run them a lot longer than a bolt action barrel How often do most guys run a barrel? 10k rounds? more? on the stretch you are talking about 3oz, up to you on if its worth it
  2. I like the barrel, its not the end all be all but it balances well, shoots really accurate. i am very happy. I found the carbon arms gas block to fit tighter and do a better job than the supplied one. I shot mine on Sunday out to 500yards, I;ve got the 75g hornadys lining up nicely with my reticle in the 1-6. here is the 500 yard plate
  3. Std weight bcg and std a5 buffer might not be as soft but runs better than the lighter stuff with the 55's Shot again today 75 hornadys out shot the 77g Tmk at 100 I'll probably end up running between 23.5g and 24g of Tac though as it outshot the others at 100 but will shoot 200 & 300 to confirm I will end up just over 2700 fps with those Varget and the 77 g Tmk shot good 23.5 g just below 2600 fps 23g of 8208 with 75 shoots good 2650 ish fps
  4. That is the 223 entry Here is the 5.56 Data 75 HDY HPBT-M 23.2 2,738 25.8 2,994 62,145 2.260 77 SIERRA HPBT MK 22.3 2,648 24.8 2,902 61,500 2.260
  5. My voodoo was 9.5oz completed with bolt etc I think 7.5 for just bcg
  6. Here are some 100 yard groups. Shot from bench with the 6x Razor 55g fmj 69g tmk 68g I want to go back and re-shoot the 68's. During that string me and another guy pulled the trigger at the exact same time. Overall i am happy with the accuracy, its a sub moa gun. I will get some velocity numbers up soon.
  7. Yes that is correct after changing the gas block I am not experiencing the issues i was over the weekend with 24.5g Tac and 55g fmj 24.1g Tac and a 55g fmj ran great and shot better than 24.6 and 25g The gun ran 100% today with loads that didn't run through it in sunday. Thank you mark and carbon arms
  8. I put the carbon arms gas block on last night and the gun ran great today. no issues cycling what so ever.
  9. I am just starting to test out the stretch 16. I have these groups with the same ammo out of the stretch and a 16inch rainier select medcon barrel. Both are shooting good. I also had some old Tac load with 75g Hornadys. The Stretch outshot the Rainier with those but they are both pretty close with 8208. Stretch 16 - 23g 8208 with 75g Hornady vortex 1-6 at 50yds Top Target Rainer Arms Medcon 16 same load 3.5-10 Leupold at 50yards
  10. Quick range report I ended up shooting the gun with the 1-6 at only 50 yards Couldn't help it since it came in Friday. Guns weighs 9lbs with optic all set up. I did sling 3 75's under 24.5 g Tac at 300 the reticle lined up. I think around 1moa. Target has shot up. I shot mostly 68g hornady and 69g sierra Tmk with 24.5 to 26g varget Plus 24.5g tac and 23g 8208 with 75g Hornadys that have shot good in other guns. Here are some quick pics. Those are 2 and 3 inch stickers I ended up not putting a brake and ran the gun bare I was able to spot on the bench For a quick shoot I'm happy I'll put the 10x on it and shoot out to distance Did have some issues with the gun running 55g fmj and 24.5 and 25g Tac it wouldn't cycle Ran fine with the others
  11. 6 lbs 12 oz weight as pictured Had to run upstairs to weigh so left blank initially
  12. Additionall range reports
  13. Reserved for range report
  14. I just received my stretch 16 barrel assembly. After reading I saw some positives about the barrel and decided to try one out. I didn't find a ton of info so I decided to start this thread to detail my results. My goals are to have an accurate Rifle for local 2 gun competition. We typically don't shoot that far 350 to 400 yards so I was looking for a shorter barrel than the standard 18 inch but wanted an accurate sub Moa shooter and a soft shooting rifle. I realize there is no end all be all products out there, but I am always looking for products that shoot better. This is a do all gun for me and will be used for at times with a suppressor for some hunting. The parts Axts lower Vltor mur upper 15inch rail Voodoo lightweight carrier vltor ext buffer tube Jp rifle buffer spring Modded vltor buffer weighing 2.8oz Cmc single stage trigger Templar tactical / crux suppressor suppressor brake 6inch Templar/ crux 308 can enroute I just need my carbon arms gas block to show and will be all set My total bcg and buffer weight is 12.3oz. This is my first time running a lighter set up. I was not interested in trying anything lighter at this time. As far as optics I have a vortex 1-6 razor due Friday but I will test with an old 3.5-10 Leupold. Initially thoughts are the fit n finsh look good on the barrel. Cerakote is evenly applied. Barrel did need cleaning. Threads looked ok, not best machining I've seen but not worse either. I'd like to see the barrel ext to reciever a little tighter. Tightened barrel nut to 75ft lbs. Overall without an optic as pictured the gun weighs 6lbs 12oz Without an optic its balancing right on the front take down pin. As far as bullets I plan to shoot 55g fmj, 68g hornady, 75g hornady, and 69 and 77g Sierra tipped match Kings through the gun over the next few weeks I have some 52g amax loaded I'll try but won't do any load development I will be testing with full prepped lake city brass, cci primers. I plan to initially run varget, Tac and 8208 powders through the gun. I will throw the Tac n 8208 on a harrels thrower and load the varget within 1 kernel for load testing Since I have a ton of Tac that needs to get shot up. I'm going to use it with the 55g fmj. I'll mess around a tune a load for the gun. I didn't want to mess around with adj gas I have high hopes for this gun and will update this as i get out to the range. Time to get busy loading ammo
  15. Looking for some advice I have spent the better part of this month reading threads here. Lot's of pm's etc. I have owned Ar's over the years but never done a lot of shooting or competitions with them. I have shot more bolt gun matches over the past 3 years but due to some things going on I had to step back and wont make many matches in the near future. I still love to shoot and compete and recently shot my first 2 gun or carbine match. I had a lot of fun and did a lot better than I imagined, I doubt I will get into 3 gun anytime soon bc I don't feel like buying and learning a shotgun and will still do my PRS shooting. Naturally I have been practicing a lot and trying to plug some holes with gear and looking to do more local shooting. There are definitely a lot more options shooting ar's that are close to me. There is an 6 match series not to far from me, its a carbine pistol event, we shot out to 300yds at the match I attended. I don't know if we are going to shoot any further but the facility has ranges out to 940yards. The first investment I made was to pick up a 1-6 Razor. I ran an aimpoint and while it worked and 300yds is doable I feel the 1-6 will be an advantage and help me pick up some points. Only bad thing is the weight but I couldn't justify spending double for a Khales or swarvo. I also picked up an belt system that Velcro's over an inner belt, very nice and will beat having to put spare mags in my pants pocket. Secondly I have ran across this "united states carbine association" and found that there are several matches close to me. it looks like these are typically ran in pistol bays or the majority of the shooting is inside of 100yards, but it looks like there is a big match in May up at Peacemaker that I might try and shoot. Shot a PRS match there last year and really liked the place, lots of terrain and shots out to 500yards. Could be a good match. do you think this USCA will grow? As Far as rifles I currently have the following: Standard 16inch AR-15 w/ Aimpoint Its got a longer free float fore end, good trigger but could use a better barrel and from reading here lighter weight internals. Then I have nearly enough parts for a 2nd gun. This lower does have a stamp attached to it. no reason just figured I would go ahead and get another Form 1 lower as a backup. I was going to build a 14.5 just bc I have a suppressor I won due soon and 14.5 is the shortest it's rated for, now that I can hunt with a can in FL, figured it would be handy. I owned 10 and 11.5 inch SBR's in the past and didn't like them, too loud and concussive. So after all my reading I am at this point. Pretty much ready to get a better barrel for my current gun. I went out and shot a bunch after the last match and will be taking better ammo with me from now on as well. I don't want to be the same guy as before that asks why not 14.5 or 16 vs.18 I have read all those threads. I'm fascinated by the writing of MarkCo very informative. So my questions are --- How does one determine if a gun is soft or flat shooting? Is there some test or standard? Perhaps a Time or accuracy test? if so what is it , doubles inside an 8inch plate at 50 yards? Has anyone done the math and timed themselves with various barrel lengths and weighted gun's? I defiantly need to work on my transitions, speed and shooting on the move. Where do you want your gun to balance? is there a point on the AR? Let's talk ammo , is there a standard velocity range most are shooting. Let's take out that stuff mark said about guys running 40's at 2400 fps. im not familiar with that and have no interest. It seems most guys shoot a lot of 55g fmj's and typically have a 68/69 and or 75/77 load are most of these at or near max? has anyone timed splits with 55's at 2900 vs 3150fps with 55's. To me for the money and performance it seems like the 68g Hornady would be a great one and one bullet. I am sitting on a lot of Varget and Tac powders. I have a lot of reloading experience and am a stickler for accuracy. Back to the guns.... I am for sure going to get a lighter bcg and look at lighter buffers. Not looking to get the fancy aluminum or titanium stuff just the std jp or voodoo lighter stuff. How would you guys finish my builds? I'm looking and reading a lot into these Stretch 16's but feel the JP 18inch lightweight is time proven seems to be the go to standard Is the 14.5 even worth tinkering with? I would run a rainier match SS barrel put the Aimpoint on it and shoot it on and off with the suppressor. This would be the pistol bay match gun, keep in the truck gun vs. a dedicated comp gun more the back up role. I defiantly prefer shorter guns when running cans. Honestly its going to be a few months before this gun see's any love and attention. My 1st Ar was the 24inch bushmaster varminter, I pulled the barrel off of it and ran an 18inch SPR, sold that gun and got this 16inch upper. I definitely favor the shorter and lighter guns, I feel 30 to 33 oz if where I like a barrel to weigh in at. I also went to the narrow NSR rail, feel they are light and I love the feel. so.. Re-build my current gun with either a new Stretch 16 or Jp lightweight 18 barrel. This will be my go to gun that I shoot the most. Naturally I would own the 2 different optics and would/ could switch back n forth if needed. I am intrigued by this Stretch 16inch, I like the idea of running a shorter and lighter barrel that recoils similar to a 16inch gun especially since most of my shooting is going to be inside of 500yards with the majority inside 350 realistically. Gun is still going to be pretty good weight with that razor sitting on top. The real data and reports are few and far between though thanks any advice...
  16. its got a factory one in it now, not sure if its a bushmaster or RRA as soon as the jp captured spring arrives a young super lite will go in

  21. more info http://tacmodstock.com/ http://surgeonrifles.com/products/tacmod-stocks/ not the trigger you mentioned but here is a nice 2 stage trigger http://www.huberconcepts.com/Remington700.htm
  22. Oh no, i meant with the 9mm top end. I was running a section of plates and had a higher hit count with the glock compared to the xdm looks like im going to put the xdm up for sale, anybody need one ?????
  23. Hello Everyone, i have been following this forum for a bit, but havent posted alot. Here is my situation, i am just getting into to pistol shooting, i currently own a Glock 17 and XDM 40 I bought the xdm first b/c it felt good in my hand and i liked it (2months ago), i then found a AA 22lr kit and bought a glock just for the kit, mainly due to availaibilty and price of ammo. i have been shooting both at the range, and though i prefer the grip of the xdm i seem to shoot the glock better (not based on any times, just hits and target groupings) Most of the stuff around here that i will be shooting is Steel and then some 2 gun matches. i also plan on shooting production classification. At this point in time i could keep both but i want to sell one and get a ccw pistol (permit just arrived yesterday) what would yall do?, my first thought is to sell the xdm and get a g19 for carry and a back up gun, that way both my pistols are the same, and with the glock conversion kit i will shoot it alot more. Just starting out wouldnt it be better to choose 1 platform and learn it instead switching back and forth? I guess the only reason i am hesistant to dump the xdm is in the future i could run it in limited, or limited 10, but right now i need to learn the basics and shoot production then worry about different classes and other pistols in the futre. i just feel like i might kick myself in the future for letting the xdm go Any thoughts or advice???
