In the past, I've had the shell plate bolt tightening while reloading occasionally but now it's tightening after loading two or three rounds. What do I need to do to stop this? Scott

I bought a 625 (past year) and the SSR 686 (past month) and haven't had any problems however with the IDPA rule changes I sorta, kinda, wish I had my money back!!

Getting IDPA to allow more guns like the 8 shot will be like pulling teeth! I say create more divisions, allow more guns, and allow more people to shoot. More divisions can keep us all on a more equal playing field. Maybe I'm way off here but my competitive nature wants to compete on an equal playing field with guns / equipment. I assume we are waiting 6-8 weeks for HQ to decide what rules we will play by in 2015-16? HQ sending an email talking about the elimination of ESR has led to uncertainty and distrust in my eyes. It has put many of us in a state of limbo with our guns and equipment. Hell, I don’t know if I should start practicing with my 686 or 625 this winter …. Which is going to be the better fit for the IDPA revolver division? Although I enjoy shooting, I want to use the best gun and equipment for the division.

I like the Gen 4's but I've found the new guide rod / captured recoil spring doesn't cycle some of my reloads. I purchased the Jager rod/spring and haven't had any problems. The Gen 4 model 35 40 cal will not cycle minor 40 without the Jager rod/spring. Having said that, I still like the Gen 4's. The 34 9mm is an great gun, and the G35 40 cal in minor caliber shoots as soft or softer than the 9mm. There is a ton of information on the internet about buying the 40 cal, changing the barrel to shoot 9mm or loading 40 minor plus you have the option to shoot 40 major so there are more options with the G35.

From experience, the Glock 35 40 cal in minor is really soft shooting. The Gen 4 will not cycle minor caliber so you will need to order a Jager rod / spring. Might sound like a pain in the ass to fool with buying and changing the rod / spring but I've actually shot some matches in Production using the 40 cal in minor after buying the Jager products. Again .... very soft shooting. I vote to do some soul searching and figure out what you really want to do before spending a bunch of money on a gun, holster, magazines, mag holders ..... etc.

Every two years we have rule changes and every two years we lose shooters who get tired of the rule changes so we gain a few and lose a few. The year they made the holster changes was the biggest member loss but IDPA recovered. Once again is the email I received from HQ in reference to my email complaint over the ESR change: I am sorry that you do not like the deletion of ESR. I am afraid that it simply had become a “participate and win a trophy” division. For most matches all you had to do is show up and not get DQ’ed and you would take home a trophy. That combined with the fact that it was a division with basically one gun, from one manufacturer in one caliber meant it’s time as standalone division is over. We are not going to dump ESR in the cold completely. We are looking at folding back into SSR like it was before. Back before 2005 it was one revolver division which ESR guns ruled. With a higher power factor for moon clip guns we think will come back to being a skills race, not an equipment one. Maybe by combining the two we will actually achieve a division with enough participation to actually bump up a shooter and be a viable and robust division. This is a sport, which means competition. When you are not competing against anyone, it is just expensive practice for the shooter and realistically it takes up resources, time and energy that could be used for a division that would be attractive to more competitors. I know that I probably will not change your mind but as a sport we have to grow and adapt. These changes reflect that drive.

Thought I would shoot SSR in IDPA for 2015 and didn't see the new rule changes coming, so last month I bought a new SSR 686 Pro Series, comp III speed loaders & holders, holster, front sight, and a few other things to get me going. I have a few thousand 38 specials already loaded up using Winchester primers for practice from my ole PPC days .... I know ... I know. I made a mistake by using Winchester primers. Not all of my primers are going off so I need an extended firing pin? I've purchased Federal primers but need to shoot up my loaded rounds first. I would also like to have the cylinder chamfered. Recommendations on who to send my new pistol to for an extended firing pin and chamfering? I do not have the skills to do it myself and live in Southern Indiana.

You are right about this and law enforcement is making progress but its SLOW. Our local department made up of about 300 sworn officers took a look at a G21 and G41 (45 acp Glocks) this past month with a milled optics. Very nice ... quick. I think it would take some practice for us older LE's but this is the future and we should embrace the technology. With a past administration, the fear was officers would let the battery die or not regularly check the optic, but hell fire they are grown men who you've spent thousands of dollars training and you give thousands of dollars of equipment to. I think they are responsible enough to make sure their gun is in working order or they should be working somewhere else. I have been on the range with shooters who are trying to line up the front / rear sight but their eye sight is so poor its almost comical at times to watch. My fear is in a few years I'll be one of those shooters who the new officers are laughing at trying to aline my sights! I would like to see IDPA create more divisions and include a slide mounted optic division for my USPSA friends. For some of my open class friends, buying a slide mounted optic gun to shoot IDPA is no big deal to them plus it gives them more match opportunities.

enemth .... I hope the final decision has not been made and they reconsider much like the standing or stopped reload. That was also a bad idea but it appears they are changing it. For an organization that boost about the equal playing field, the are dropping the ball on this one. jcc7x7 .... you should be pissed. Again, my point is why not add divisions instead of getting rid of one. IDPA should be trying to add shooters instead of pissing people off and losing membership.

There are lots of thoughts on the IDPA forum about this. I don't like the idea of getting rid of the ESR class because it hurts the 625 shooters. Think about the guy who has dedicated himself to this gun, mastering the moon clip reload, and then finding out his division in competing with the same gun & equipment is gone. One thought has been the 625 can still be used in SSR but only with speed reloaders. Major cal guns should not have to compete with minor cal guns. Why would they want to start excluding people? Who knows ... guess we will find out with the new IDPA rule book. Guess since Jerry M didn't compete in the Nationals this year they no longer care about him or the 625. Just sayin'

I will agree the red dots are the future but I'm not sure IDPA is forward thinking enough for this. Its just not IDPA either, I have almost 30 years in LE and for the five years we tried to convince our administration to explore, in a pilot project, the use of a small dot on a duty weapon. With a new administration, this finally happened last month. I also like the idea of having the smaller CC guns 3" barrel or less, compete in a different division. I for one would like to see more divisions in IDPA. It keeps everyone on an equal playing field and gives shooters choices in what types of guns they want to shoot. Getting rid of the ESR division (my opinion) is a horrible move. One complaint is the purchase of plaques / trophies for so many divisions and classes but that can be addressed by offering a certificate instead of a plaque. Add the different divisions and bring more shooters into the sport. Below is the mission statement from IDPA. I would think IDPA would try to reach as many shooters as they could. 1: Promote safe and proficient use of guns and equipment suitable for self-defense use. 2: Provide a level playing field for all competitors to test the skill and ability of the individual, not their equipment or gamesmanship. 3: Provide separate divisions for equipment and classifications for shooters, such that guns with similar characteristics are grouped together and people with similar skills compete only against each other. 4: Provide shooters with practical and realistic courses of fire that simulate a potentially life-threatening encounter or that tests skills that would be required to survive a life-threatening encounter. 5: Offer a practical shooting sport that is responsive to the shooters and sponsors, with unprecedented stability of equipment rules. 6: Offer a practical shooting sport that allows the competitors to concentrate on the development of their shooting skills and fellowship with other likeminded shooters.

Exactly! But 165pf so there's no complaits that it's too easy. Keeps all guns and equipment in play, and makes two small divisions one small division. S-Hurt, the good news is, I think the 686 and it's speedloaders will be protected. I guess my concern is my competitive nature. I want to compete with those who have the same equipment. I don't want to gain or LOSE based on my gun, bullets or equipment. 45 acp minor vs 38 special ..... moon clips vs speed loaders ..... 165 or 150 power factor vs 105 power factor Again, isn't it one of the basic IDPA principles for everyone to be on an equal playing field?
