  1. A definite idea. Thanks! BTW I do have +2 extenders on there now, but the bigger ones are enticing.
  2. I spoke to the Tech Service fellow at Magpul and he said it was designed for Gen3, and the Gen2 is actually different, and they would not guarantee it for that model. But if I don't see anything in the next while, I may go with it.
  3. I have a Gen2 G17 that I have had for 25 years, and I have shot it in USPSA Production for 10 years. I have decided to move to Limited Minor, so I am looking at adding an inexpensive magwell. I tried the Cytac polymer version, but every match I shot it in, it ended up either constraining mag inserts, or coming totally off, or both. Yes, I installed it per the online videos. Note, I am not looking to add a $100 magwell, I want one $30 or under. So, O sages, what do you recommend? * Note, since I shot Production for a long time, and regular "Combat pistol" matches before that, I am willing to do without a magwell if that's the conclusion.
  4. FWIW I have been shooting my Gen2 G17 for 20 years now. It has the stock trigger with a 25 cent trigger job, plus the minus connector. I've shot friends' Glocks with lots of different mods and I honestly don't see the point in aftermarket trigger stuff. (Sights are another story for another thread, I think we all agree.) When I'm doing real match shooting, I can't tell between a stock connector and an aftermarket. My hands and my eyes just work together and put the shots on target, and I really can't feel it.
  5. Thanks all. I guess I was hoping for something other than "practice." But that's what got me where I am with short range, so it makes sense.
  6. Thanks all for your comments and suggestions. Here are some other observations: He uses a very even isoceles stance, so the "turning the head" option isn't in play. He just shifts he gun left about a half inch and he's lined up. He shoots with both eyes open. So do I and I have no problem. We are going to try the left handed option for a while and see how it goes. He played with it some this weekend and he can get the mag release with his index finger, so I said go with it. Heck, he's young, if he decides after 10 years to change he still has plenty of time to correct it. Plus, I think he will really do well on single handed "weak" hand stages. It will almost be cheating. Now I need to go buy a left handed holster. For now he has one of my IWB holsters clipped to the belt but it's floppy as heck.
  7. I have looked at match performance in the past year, and I can see that one area I need to improve on is long shots - say, 20 yards and out. Not only are Mikes abundant, I find that I cannot call the shots, whereas I can on 10 to 15 yard shots. Any advice on how to improve here?
  8. My 12-year-old son recently started coming to the range with me, shooting my G17. I have been shooting since 1992 and competing since 1993, so he has been to more than one match with me, and finally decided he wanted to come shoot with me. We have known since he started playing baseball 6 years ago that he is left eye dominant. He is right handed, and for a baseball batter this is actually a good thing. When he started shooting he Daisy BB gun a few years back we solved the rifle problem by training him to shoot left handed. So when he took the pistol for the first time, he shot left handed. My question is, should I get him to change to shoot pistols right handed but aim with the left eye? For me the issue is not "cross dominance" since this has been proven to be a non issue by a lot of good shooters. I am concerned about future complications - drawing the gun with a non-dominant arm, pressing the mag release, etc. Thanks all!
