  1. I hold 28 rounds in the 170mm with a plus one base pad. 24 in the 140s. Try polishing the lips also. I used a drimmel tool and metal polish. Once tuned I run a silicon clothe thru my mags and around the edge of the follower. Worx well!!

  2. Not sure what's going on there but you're doing the right thing by changing out the inner parts. Can't go wrong with Gramms. All my open gun mags have that setup. Although I did have to send my mags to Bevon Gramms to get them tuned. It only took @3 months turn around but boy do they run. First try what you have with the gramm innards and if that doesn't work gettm tuned.

  3. I talked to Max M. At the 2010 ipsc nats and he showed me his aluminum grip. It had two stress cracks. One under the trigger guard and one next to the mag release button. He said it didn't bother him but STI said they were getting too many returns and stopped importing them. I think they are Italian made for guns using a lower power factor. I would go for the SS grip at SV. Can't beat the quality and its nice to have a little more weight in the hands. I have two SV limited gun withSS grips. Love m.

  4. I have had both and they each have their advantages but I prefer a heavier gun and I shoot 9 major so that pretty much says it all. Loading 9 major is a little easier with the longer barrel as well, most of the time I can use a tenth or two less than the shorty needs. I know that doesn't sound like much but I'll take it when you're running 9 major. Oh, no popple holes in either, both Scheumann and this applies to both 115gr and 124gr MG's in my experience.

The shorty does index a little faster but after shooting the heavier guns for a while I can index fast enough to make the difference immaterial in my opinion. I just like the way heavy guns make the dot track as well as the duller recoil impulse.

Second that on the popple holes. Just makes u use more powder and its louder!! I used 124 MG jhp with 7.4 of IMR 7625. Very accurate and soft feel for a fast burning powder. Similar to Max Michels open load.

  5. I own a shorty (saleing it to fund another gun project) that Dan Bedell built me in 2010. I also have a long gun. To be honest I can't tell the difference other than I feel like I'm using a limited gun. The recoil impulse was the same. Maybe a little faster than my long gun. I love it. Maybe just me but I'm not a tall person 5'11" and I like the how the gun transitions as well. Doesn't feel like I'm moving a long pole in front of me. Now I'm shooting limited and hope to shoot single stack. Want to do something different as I've been shooting open for 3 years. Plus it's nice to get back to basics.

  6. Chris Tilley, Max Michel, Travis Tomasie all offer first class instruction. Just google them and you'll see contact info. Can't emphasize how important it is to learn the right way the first time vs. taking the time to unlearn. I didn't know any of this when I started. Oh where I would be if I'd done it right.

  7. In my experience its best to take the time and money and find an expert shooter and spend the day with him/her and learn the proper techniques of shooting. Grip, trigger control, sight pic...trust me it will save you time and money in the long run. Wish I'd done that from the beginning. I spent the day with Larry Brown in NC (trained Chris Tilley) and it made a world of difference. I went from C to B in no time. Whether IDPA or USPSA etc. it makes a huge difference. Books are great but practical experience is better! My humble opinion.

  8. Anyone out there with experience in reloading for an SVI 5" gun with an AET barrel. I'm trying to find an accurate load that meets major PF. I have a SVI sight tracker 5" barrel with extended dust cover in stainless steel. Love shooting this thing but I'm having a hard time getting it to group well. I'm shooting from a rest at a 25 yd. target. I've been using VV N320 5.4 gr. OAL 1.23". Thanks for any help. What do you consider or expect a comp gun should group?

  9. Schummann says that there is some advantage in accuracy with a gain twist barrel. Like I said lots of info on the subject on their website. check it out if you're curious RippSpeed. I think you have to be a physisist (spelling?) to understand it all tho.

  10. I've got 2 SVI limited sighttracker guns. One with the AET barrel which is 1/32 twist I think and the other is their standard 1/16 twist. Soooo whats the difference as far as shooting is concerned. Can someone explain "standard" vs. a Gain twist barrel. Any advantages? Basically looking for an explanation how a barrel is made etc.... Thanks!!!

  11. Just got my 2 SV limited sight trackers. AWEsome workmanship!! Just breaking them in now. Im trying to figure the best load for me. so far VVN320 seems to feel the best. I'll second the comments on customer service at SVI. It's great and has improved over the years. I'm impressed with Brandon....if he suggests something just go with it. you won't be disapointed.

  12. Ok guys just got my DAA rig for a limited .40 SVI sighttracker. I love the set up. It's solid. The holster has great retention. I can jump up and down move any which way and the gun stays put. I really like the mag pouches as well. Solid and easy to attach. I like that you don't have to attach velcro to keep your mag pouches secure. Also love how you can adjust all the above to just about any angle. Can't wait till my first match!!

  13. I think the army marksmanship unit puts out some info to help you with that. i would google AMU marksmanship manual? I did that a few years ago and took the disk to staples and had it bound. It's an excellent book with lots of info. Also there is a book called called the pistol shooters treasury which breaks down every "step" of accurate pistol shooting. I used it for bulleye.
