  1. Good advice Scott! I had a similar situation and asked TT about what to do and he recommended drinking enough water to have to urinate about every stage, and not to eat large meals but small meals thru out the day to keep the energy levels up. Definitely difficult to keep up the mental state as well. Still working on that

  2. Hi everyone.

I'm proud to say that I've ordered up and just about paid for my new SVI gun :surprise:

    The question is...mags??

I shoot IPSC up here in Canada and I fall in to the box rules for a " Standard Class Gun".

So, Im guessing the SVI 124mm Mag ( 10 round configuration only!!!)

I currently use Gramms' goodies on my STI gear....they work %100 of the time!!

So the question become...do I keep the new mags from SVI stock...or do they too need a little help.

By the way, the reason I switched to the Gramms' in my STI gear was that I found that both

the springs and followers were inconsistant. :(

Anyway, any advice from my fellow forum members would be appreciated :D

+1 on that. I've had no issues with my limited gun. I did polish the inside of the feed lips.....I was bored that day and needed something constructive to do :)

Just order them from Infinity with your pistol. They will run 100%. No need to look anywhere else..

  3. Anybody here run the SV mag well? How do you like it? I think they have two magwells for SS. One for ipsc and one for USPSA. Also if you have a SV single stack what kind of mag/base pad would you use? Thinking of a SS build with SV. Thanks.

I have the USPSA Legal Infinity mag well on my Single Stack 40. It works perfectly with Wilson Combat extended basepads.

Can you use Tripp mags. Any experience with those. I like their wide base pads.

  4. I use comp-tac gear for all my holsters and mag pouches, a lot of people use bladetech as well. Consider using the Tripp cobra mags or the system mags for the .40's

I checked out Tripps website. Nice mags. Do you ever have any issues with them and how do they fit with a magwell. Thank you.

Buy the system mags, they are designed to work with magwells.

Who makes the system mags? Tripp? If so I didn't notice them on his website. Saw the .40 and 9mm mags with or without metal basepads Thank you.

  5. jetdriver71, Make sure you check out Johnathon at Red Dot Shooting supplies in Rockledge Fl. He most likely will have every thing you need in stock.

Funny you say that. I was just there today. Great guy and gave me lots of great info. I ended up getting the CRSpeed belt. Im buying a little at a time. Thank you.

  6. I use Blade-tech Holsters, Tripp Research System mags (the Corey version of course). As for mag pouches I think the DAA racer pouches with inserts are gonna be hard to beat.

Thanks Cory. I noticed some people running the DAA and CRSpeed with inserts. Both look good. I'll check out the DAA. I run those for my limited gun.

  8. Alright folks I'm new to single stack and need ideas for gear! I'm familiar with USPSA rules but want to know what the best gear is. Now I know this is subjective but doesn't hurt to get ideas. So....please state your equipment and briefly why you chose it. A picture would be great too! I'm having an SV single stack built 5", square trigger guard with fiber optic front sight similar to this..

It will have a larger magwell tho.

So to reiterate what kind of mag pouch, holster, magazines should I be looking at.

  9. I've had Radar paths but now shoot with the M frame Hybrid lens. I have the black iridium polarized for bright sunlight , and a clear vented lens. Anyone experience lens fogging up, especially on cooler days. If so do you use anti-fog chemicals?

The M frame hybrid is a bit smaller and fit snugly to my face. I've never had any issue with them even with ear muffs. Oakley has a great lineup of RX sunglasses too. Planning on getting some soon. The a radars were nice too but didn't fit my small face to well.

  10. When the timer goes off, you get to be in control of one idea.

Whatever you decide you really want is what WILL happen.

You choose to call every shot and that will happen to best of your current ability.

You choose speed and and you will pull the trigger very fast and run as quick as you can.

    One will be very exhilarating.

One will feel slow and might even be boring.

    Choose wisely.

I chose the slow with my open gun once at a local match and called every shot and had an ahahh! Moment I won the stage.

  11. LMAO Neil,

I wish I had read your post a week ago. I was at your two gun "Help for Hereos" match and came 6th to your 4th!!!!

A few days after posting I bought Lanny's audi book so I have had it about three months. I drive a lot (2000+ miles a month) and listen to it most days. I reckon I have been through it over 15 times and each time I pick up something different or get a reminder of something I have forgotten.

As a review of the audio book Mental Management for Shooting sports I would say that the content is very similar to his book. If your on a budget just buy the book. There are very few differences. The actual recording quality is very poor and the sound levels from section to section for an expensive product are very poor.

For me I think it was just about worth the money. I learn quite well from audio and repetition. The content like his book is very good and I have seen some rapid improvements. It really has helped with competition. I'm a new shooter (just over a year) and found it very frustrating at competitons that the harder I tried the worse I shot and then I would give up mentally and shoot fantastic. Now understanding more about how my head works and how this relates to shooting has really helped.

The two gun match I have just shot is a good example of how things have changed for me. My preps were not that good. The three weeks before consisted of 10 days on holiday in Spain and one week of training. The training was five ten minute sessions with my airsoft rifle, a trip to the range to zero only to have my rifle break and about an hour of live fire shotgun. I mamanged to borrow a gun and set it up only to find my friend forgot to bring it to the competition! I should have been all over the place but I wasnt. I shared my friends rifle and decided to shoot to my plan and what ever happened stick to it.

The plan was to focus on the stage prep, working out the course, then when it was my turn take two deep breaths and just hit every target without paying any attention to speed and just see where the subconcious took me.

The first 3 stages went very well and the times were encouraging but I tried not to focus on them and instead focused on refilling my mags and my friends as he was the RO. On the fourth stage I deviated from the plan. I though the first 5 steels I could take easily and decided to do them as fast as I could. The result was two misses and a fumbled reload afterwards. I realised I should get back on the plan and dismissed the stage as "Not like me" and the rest of the day went very smoothly and I had my best result ever. I must also say I enjoyed this competition more than any other as a result. When you concentrate on the performance and not the result it kind of frees you up to enjoy it more.

I beat some people I know can out shoot me with a rifle or shotgun just because I had a system to put it altogether on game day.

I have Steve Andersons books and have adapted them to shotgun drills. Sauls would be next on my list and perhaps I could get a look at them, Neil, if you are going to the Steel challenge at Shield. That should be a good match and we will see afterwards if people still make fun of me using an airsoft to practice with my BAM airsoft targets ;-)

That and I would add to just call every shot. When I do that And stick to my plan and not worry about how someone else is shooting I do well. I plan on picking up Saul Kirsh's DVD today I hope it helps!! I'm all about saving and not wasting time and doing it right!

  12. I had that happen to mine. Sent it to cmore and they just replaced it. Which was cool because it was Monday and had the area 6 on Sat. They were swamped I guess and plus I told them about my upcoming match so they just mailed a new one. Great customer service!

  13. Mine is on the left. I manipulate the gun with my right hand and slide rack with my left. I'm right handed. Also makes table draws easier. I use a shooters connection slide racier and had Bedell put more aggressive lines to keep my finger from slipping. Works great.

    Here's a pic.

  14. Open is definately not a no skill division. I have found its a blast but harder. You have to be shooting at least 15% fast with an open gun or your already behind the power curve. Everything has to be perfect in open when it comes to foot work and your attack on the stage.

    Pat

True that my friend. I found that out real quick in open.

  15. Dude I would go with single stack. You'll learn all the basics well. Which will translate to open, limited or whatever discipline you choose. In single stack you'll invest little in the beginning then work your way up. Although open sure is fun! You reload more in SS and will have a chance to slowly learn the footwork necessary for open shooting. Take your time and learn correct shooting. The temptation in open is to just shoot fast because everyone else is. I shot SS first with a Kimber Raptor II. Little investment. Maybe $1300 bucks.
