  1. hmmm, I thought I had it tightened down, but I can see how this is about the only way that carrier could be hitting that shelf. I'll clean her up and ratchet down that mag tube and see if I get a different result the next time out. Thanks guys!
  2. So I've had my 930 since '09 and absolutely love it. While everybody else clears FTF's & FTE's during matches, I've been lucky and my 930 never fails. For the last couple of years, I've only run light bird & low recoil slugs without a hitch Today, I went and did some clays with my son and we ran about 240 rds through it and my luck ran out . . . it had failures to eject 1 out of every 4 rounds or so. It would partially extract (shell pulled out, but still hung up on the extractor) or in some cases, the shell stayed in the chamber. . . . In tearing down the gun this afternoon, I found metal shavings hanging from the flat area where the mag tube comes in and shavings on the front of the bolt carrier where it appears to be impacting that 'shelf'. . . . . I'm hoping someone has seen this before or has any clues on what might be causing this? Pic 1: Mashed up area / metal shavings on mag tube / shelf thing Pic 2: front of bolt carrier that seems to be hitting the above area
  3. Of note, I've since gone to 1x on my TR24 instead of the offset sights. I kept getting buggered up on weak-side stage setups. Still prefer my old TA33 though, it outshoots the TR24 at 200-300 yard stages all day long. If anyone wants my pair of cheap amazon offset rail mounts, I'll give'em to you, just pay for the shipping and I'll send them out to you. Alternatively, saw these on amazon as well: http://www.amazon.com/Front-Degree-Rapid-Transition-Backup/dp/B006X9DLQM/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1360704848&sr=8-7&keywords=offset+rail
  4. I'm in the same boat, don't want to finish off my .223, so got a 522 for the short stages in my local matches. Now, I can't find any .22lr either, real bummer.
  5. Thanks for all the advice guys. Got it resolved. Had to take both of your general recommendations to make them work: 1. Dremel'd and sanded the inside of the grips until the new K9 mags slid in smoothly 2. After number 1, found that they would not seat high enough for the mag catch to kick in. Took 7mmb's advice (thanks!) and sanded the top of the base pads as well and now I'm golden . . . Thanks again!
  6. Thanks for the replies guys. As to the small / large frame topic. The Witness Match only comes in large frame . .. right? I'll try taking my grips off and see what happens.
  7. This is probably a dumb question, but I'm stumped. I've got a Witness Match 9mm from about '09 with three of the original mags and it runs great. Never had trouble with the original mags and they drop free. Last week, I thought I'd get another set of three from EAA as backups. Called EAA and they tell me that the model 101935 (EA9M2005) 17 rounders are for my gun. Got them in on the weekend and they don't fit anything like the originals: - VERY tight into magwell, have to force them in - Removing a mag requires prying them out - slide doesn't seem to rack smoothly Although EAA tells me I have the right mags, I can't use these. Can anyone verify the model of the new mags by any chance?
  8. The mids in 14.5 can be a bit gas sensitive. I've done both DD and BCM CHF barrels in mids and the BCM version appears to have a bit more gas / larger port. Both work well and are great products. Depending on what you shoot and your config, you may want to weigh that as well / larger gas ports = wider range of ammo. Of note, if you are serious about the Mid length, my experience has been that 16' gives you the benefits and may be more optimal (at least in my limited experience). If you only run 5.56, then either is fine, if you want .223, I'd strongly consider BCM and 16'.
  9. Is your TR24 still up for sale? If so, do know the approx purchase date / year? (getting an idea on tritium life)

  10. I've got the PRI QC comp on mine and it works well and has almost no concussion back to the shooter, with a bit less concussion to bystanders. On the same rifle, I've had the JP Cooley and the FSC556, I prefer the QC as I found the concussion annoying after a while and on the FSC the regular bits of unburnt powder on my support arm was distracting. Maybe I'm a pansy, but I've found the QC effective as a brake and pretty good at keeping the noise from being unbearable. Additionally, it's pretty well priced and light . . .
  11. Thanks NJD. I called Mossberg and their tech seemed pretty familiar with the scratching issue from the spring tip. He said they'll take it right back and correct it, but he mentioned that it had no functional impact. Well, saw your post, took a pointed round file and did some minor filing on that tip and problem solved. Took it to the range today and it cycles great (just like my SPX config has for the last couple of years)
  12. got my '24 non ported barrel yesterday and found that I had this as well. Scores the mag tube all up, seems that the tip of the spring sticks out just a bit and digs into the tube. . . . really bummed that I'm going to have to send it back. Tried the tip from above, wood dowel from Lowes, and no joy. The second recommendation mentions loosening the spring nut, it's not budging and worried about scratching that all up and messing with my warranty.
  13. Thanks RAS and Nuke . . . one last question, does anyone know what size these screws are by any chance?
  14. Gang, Just received my 24' non-ported barrel today and I've started the conversion of my SPX. Dumb question, but what are other SPX owners doing with the holes in the receiver when removing the rail? Wondering if there are any OEM-ish screws that will work?
  15. Not impossible at all, I've got the SPX and use it for sporting clays about every other weekend. I'm about as good / bad as my buddies with their over-unders. I assume there will be a difference when you get into serious clays with real competitors, but I've seen no difference. Even borrowed their O/U's on some stands and my shooting was consistently the same (mediocre :-). My theory is that using the same shotgun means that my time on clays is also helping me in 3gun (that's yet to be proven), clays gives me the familiarity and the practice and nothing will move as fast or be as difficult to hit in 3gun as a fast moving clay.
  16. Same experience here as Outerlimits. I've got a couple thousand rounds through my 930 and it cycles every time when firing and I only use low recoi8l bird and Fiocchi low recoil slugs. However, hand cycling on an empty chamber just doesn't work consistently no matter what I try (shim, etc.,). It's only been a problem lately on 'cruiser ready' stages where I get hosed trying to cycle an empty chamber / full tube gun. What's odd is that for the first year I had it (about 800 rounds), hand cycling worked consistently (sporting clays, load two in the tube, hand cycle). Then it just stopped. Would love to figure out the secret-sauce to making it work. I've thought of sending it to Mossberg for repair, but since it's uber reliable when shooting . . . .don't want that to get messed up. ..
  17. I've been wanting DA/SA on my Match, is there a tutorial / approach and is it proven or have some history? Any insight would be appreciated.
  18. Funny, was just looking at that on the weekend since I couldn't find the AE 124. Haven't tried it though. . . .
  19. I've tried a variety of production ammo in my 9mm Match in 115,124, and 147 (Rem, UMC, Win, Atlanta Arms, PMC, etc.,). I liked the Atlanta Arms stuff, but 147gr just dropped to fast/low for my Match. The ammo I've settled on, and it's the most accurate with, is American Eagle 124gr. Cheap ammo and usually available at Aim Surplus for a good price.
  20. That off set is minimized by zeroing the rifle further out. I zero my offset irons at the standard 50/200 battle size zero and I have been able to hit out to 200 with it. Pat Thanks Pat, I'll give that a try.
  21. I've got the same problem on my 9 Witness Match. My rear sight screw flew off at the range and they wanted me to send the whole gun back. That was like a year ago, tried to buy just a single screw, but no love from EAA. Went to Ace Hardware and spent 10 minutes going through the bins and found a ss screw that fit, loc tited it, used some birchwood casey black on it and it's held up so far. . .
  22. I rolled my own before seeing the Dueck's. Used some old Magpul buis I had combined with a couple $8 NCstar offset mounts off Amazon. 0-25yards I use the offset irons, 25+ the TA33. I like the setup a lot. The one thing I would say is that there is an offset from the plane of the barrel, past 25yrds, the offset starts throwing rounds up & left of POA. Not a deal-killer since I need optics past 25 anyway :-). I imagine the Dueck's are better engineered to avoid this. Pic below:
  23. Can you describe what's happening? Is it loaded 7+1, fire the first round and bolt's open and second shell is somewhere on lifter?
  24. I've been using a poly-choke and it works well for me. To a thread below, in stages where I need my xFull setting and need slugs, I run the slugs on full with no problems whatsoever to date.
