  1. just shot the steel challenge...my times for speed option were added up wrong...since i did not verify what was posted on the scoreboard at the range before the results were printed, i was told the results would stand...lesson learned...
  2. 3.1 gr. BA-10 under a 124 gr. LRN 3.4 gr. BA-10 under a 124 gr. JRN Gun: 4.5" slide, extremely lightened, 3 chamber comp, cut 7# spring. For steel challenge, you definitely should lean toward the faster powders. At $8/lb, it's hard to beat BA-10.
  3. call d & d bullets (909) 983-0296...it would be about a 2 hour drive for you...

    Pendulum

shot it at piru a few weeks ago...the 10" plates and elevation changes make it tough...reminds me of "five to go" in terms of really having to watch your sights/dot...during my practice session, my clean runs were 3.05-3.10...couldn't seem to drop one in the 2s...at least, not yet....

    Pendulum

shot it today...the 10" plates and elevation changes make it a tough stage...in terms of pace/tempo and how deliberate you have to be with your shots, it is most like "5 to go"...i practiced it after the match and left to right seemed to work the best for me...the fast guys will shoot it in 2.75 or less...
  6. i set up in the right-front of the left box and shoot 1,2,3,4, stop..from the right box i set up in the left-front of the box and shoot 4,3,2,1,stop...my set up in the boxes brings the first 2 plates closer together...
  7. concur with warpspeeed....1,2,4,3,stop...set up in the right-front of the box...this brings the 1,2 plates closer together...
  8. fyi...this stage will no longer be used as part of the match...mike and mike are working on a new stage design which i understand will not involve any movement...from what i know, the stop plate will remain the same but the other 4 plates will change...
  9. i am considering trying vectan powders in limited and open class...i figured it must ok if eric g. is using it...i would greatly appreciate any load data for limited and open class...thanks in advance...
  10. i practice at an indoor range with a steel backstop and trap...most of the splatter i have noticed come from jacketed or plated bullets...this could also just mean that most of the shooters are using jacketed or plated bullets...since the range bans the use of hollowpoints and i have also heard of some ranges requiring use of lead bullets only, is there any truth to the rumor that lead bullets splatter the least?...thanks in advance...
  11. my left handed shooting buddy has both the newer ghost and limcat holsters...
  12. take the firing pin plunger and spring out...using a dremel/file, cut off or grind down the plunger lever (the part that actuates the firing pin plunger) so that it does not protrude into the hole in the slide...i tried one of the aftermarket fillers and had nothing but problems...did the above to the stock parts and the gun was flawless...
  13. i had a steel gun accu-railed 10 months ago and put maybe 25-25k rounds thru it with light powder puff loads...the frame to slide fit is noticeably loose side to side and up and down...is this normal?...i thought the accu-rail selling point was that the gun would never shoot loose?...
  14. cof: comstock, 8 targets, on signal engage targets freestyle 1 shot each, reload strong hand 1 shot each, reload weak hand 1 shot each...since it was comstock and not virginia, some shooters were taking 3 shots freestyle, reloading and shooting strong and weak hand into the berm as fast as they can...obviously, their hits and times were better than the ones who shot the stage as it was intended to be shot...were there any rules broken or was it just another case of bad stage design?...
  15. a shooter using a .38 super takes 2 shots at a target...we go to score it and find two 'A's..but they are .45 size holes...the target was obviously not taped...does the shooter get the benefit of the doubt or 2 mikes?...thanks in advance...
  16. along with a 17# or 19# mainspring, the limcat extended firing pin should solve the problem...it will also help against primer flow...
  17. other than using expensive lab equipment, is there another method for determining how efficient a comp is working?...i shoot a 3 chamber comp in both my steel gun and ipsc gun...when i shoot steel, i use a very fast powder (BA-10) and am not sure if i am getting the most efficiency out of the comp...is there a general rule of thumb as to comps and powder burn rates?...for example "use the fastest burning powder for the power factor you are trying to reach"...thanks in advance for your assistance....
  18. using jb weld, try extending the ridges on the left side of the mag tube down to the bottom of the tube...this will at least prevent a cartridge from getting side by side with the follower...learned this from arredondo...
  19. warpspeed: i get my lead bullets from "d & d bullets"...john harmon makes the bullets out of his shop in ontario...he usually shoots the steel challenge matches at piru and west end and action pistol and three gun matches at wegc...to save on shipping, hook up with him at a match...if you are interested, give him a call at 909-983-0296...tell him racer x sent you.... by the way, i have tried bear creek's teflon coated bullets in 9mm/.38 Super, .40 & .45 and found them not only less accurate but also leaded more...i have also tried bullets from precision bullets with the same results as the bear creek's...my suspicion is that bear creek and precision bullets are using straight lead without antimony or linotype to harden it...you get very little to no leading from the d & d bullets...what little leading you do get comes right out with a couple passes of a bore brush...the d & d bullets come with hard lube....buying bulk (10K) will save you a dollar off each K....good luck...
  20. i use lead for both major and minor 38 super loads (124 gr)...accurate but smokier...find a local source to save on shipping...i have tried teflon/moly coated bullets and found i got more leading with them than with straight lead...most probably due to the hardness (or lack thereof) of the lead...i pay 24/k for lead bullets compared to 40-45/k for jacketed...i am not saving any money...i am just shooting more... : )
  21. i've tried the surplus pistol powders and they work just as well as the brand name powders...you get a little bit more fouling but nothing that will stop your gun from running...i've tried the NM04 (faster than BA10), HPC18 (a good N320 substitute) and #102 (slightly faster than N350)...for minor loads, i use the the NM04 for steel...for major loads, i use the HPC18 for Limited (.40) and the #102 for Open (.38 super)...
  22. hello everyone... the a2 will be my first uspsa match with a prize table...although i am not expecting to finish high, i am still interested in the prize distribution process...can someone explain?...thanks in advance.....
