Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Sorry for joining this one late. The problem with the 929 is that the sight base is just a little shorter than other S&Ws. I got the EGW FO front sight and it's just a 0.01" longer than I'd like. It took a punch and careful taping to get it seated, then drilled the hole and there it is. The problem is it usually take 2 of those Hobby Lobby drill bits to make it through. It may be a little tall. I haven't taken it out with this sight yet. I'm also changing bullet weights, so sight adjustments are in order anyway. Don't laugh. I don't clean my guns but after every couple of 1,000 or so rounds. I've had the Apex treatment done, and I put on the FO sight. Now to consider cutting the barrel nub off.
  2. For ICORE I shoot the 5" 686 PC. Much easier to swing from target to target than the full 6" 686. I use the Safriland 333 holders, but the aluminum pop rivets give out on me. When I see one getting loose, I rip it out and Epoxy it back in place clamping it tightly. I also cut away most of the back so there are just two small straps to go around the belt. Comp III speed loaders. IDPA different game. Use a 4" 686 PC. I use the smaller HKS twist speed loaders. Seems more "proper" for the game. I utilize the plastic individual speed loader holders for this competition.
  3. JL, first I hope you're able to keep your powder dry and you're on high ground. Use to live in Ft Bend. Went to the rodeo in Simonton several times. Love shooting revolvers. I remind the other shooters that the west wasn't won with a bottom feeder. It's more of an accuracy game.
  4. Just got my 929 back from the smithy. My standard 9mm load and results from this weekend. 124gr Xtreme plated CCI primers 4.0 grs of Titegroup Avg Vel 1023 Avg PF 126 SD 15.42 2 caveats: Obviously the CCI primers are not ideal and need to be replaced with Federal, but it's what I had loaded. The 124gr at these velocities had pretty poor accuracy. Using Am Eagle 147gr and 115gr factory it was much better. So I'll be testing some 147gr loads soon.
  5. Of course here's the extreme end of simple in regards to trigger rules. [and I understand they're not drawing from holster and they're firing from deliberate, fixed positions...been there---done that.], from IHMSA: "Triggers set so light as to be prone to accidental discharge are not allowed. Triggers shall be tested by cocking an unloaded handgun and rapping the butt sharply with the palm of the hand." Not advocating this for tactical, just showing an extreme end of the range of rules.
  6. NRA Conventional Pistol. 3.1.3 Standard Smallbore Pistol .22 caliber rim fire - ....at least 2 pounds 3.1.4 Distinguished Revolver - .....and maintain a 2 1/2 lb. minimum trigger pull 3.2 Any Center Fire Pistol or Revolver - trigger pull not less than 2 1/2 pounds 3.3 Any .45 Caliber Semi-automatic Pistol or Revolver - trigger pull not less than 3 1/2 pounds
  7. Thanks for the info, Alan. I was wrong about SSUSA. There are a number of disciplines who have matches listed out through the Fall of 2010. However, I still believe that an on-line database, as opposed to a monthly publication would be a better way to "publish" match schedules. My impatience is showing, I guess. Why?I'm not clear why AP community limits the matches so no two matches are on the same date? Wouldn't it be better if there were multiple matches every weekend, instead of only one? Couldn't more people participate if there were more matches in more places?
  8. To answer my own question. The December Shooting Sports is now available on-line. So it comes out the first day of the month. Unfortunately, there is only one approved AP match in December.
  9. I've signed up. What is the publication schedule for Shooting Sports USA, Tom? Is it released the last day of the previous month? (Will the December issue be out tomorrow, 11/30)?
  10. Tom, Why not just have the match schedules available on-line without the publication paradigm? Seems like a lot of overhead for what is basically a database or spreadsheet display. Given publication budget (space), you can only list a month out, whereas a database listing could show all scheduled matches in the future, so competitors could plan ahead. In addition both the server and user computer resources would be significantly less than is used in the publication paradigm. I downloaded 31pages of full color images just to read 3 column inches on page 24 that could have been in black and white. Just a suggestion from a struggling 1st timer.
  11. And the NRA Website has been updated!!!
  12. As someone who just started to investigate NRA AP, I got a real workout of my Lipitor trying to navigate the NRA web site and maybe the sport. (But gosh by golly, if I wanted to know how to be "Distingished" that's clearly spelled out.) I did find the rule book, so please don't email me that link. According to the NRA web site: You can still register for the 2009 Bianchi, (held 6 months ago) There is NO 2010 match scheduled. There are NO local matches. BUT, having found this thread, I see that, there indeed might be hope of a next year (though it appears there's no hope for the NRA web site.) The quetion is where around Atlanta, GA are there shoots? Middle TN? Northwestern SC? NorthEastern AL? (Charlotte's a little far for a day trip, but looks like a nice program.) Alf
