Tumbling bullets are sometimes a result of too much crimp. Did you actually measure the crimp? I'm sure others will chime in with what could have caused the tumbling.
Time to start thinking about reloading your own!! If one of his reloads blows up your gun and causes injury to you or any bystanders both you and your buddy are going to be in a lot of hot water but I'm sure you know that.
You also need to check and see if the max length loads will fit and feed in your magazines. While they may fit your barrel they may be too long for your magazines
Did some checking and it looks like a LNL .40 S&W shell plate will work for the 9mm-at least until you can buy one. Hopefully the .40 S&W plates aren't as scarce. Looks like the #10 Hornady shell plates are kind of scarce too. I did find this one on Ebay:http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-HORNADY-LOCK-N-LOAD-SHELL-PLATE-10-40-S-W-392610-/330716427163?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4d003c339b Kind of sucks to own an Hornady LNL right now!
This looks like their top-of-the-line: http://www.amazon.co...pd_sim_sbs_sg_1 I got tired of lugging my guns from stage to stage-too old for that and got the Rugged Gear 2-gun Combo cart. It will be here Friday.
