  1. Form talking to shooters and long hours of meditation I don't think how you break in is as important as barrel maintenance. A non custom barrel will be rough, therefore I don't clean my precision rifle after every time I shoot. I run some patches to get the powder out but because it is not a custom barrel I leave the copper to smooth out the barrel and clean ever 200-300 rounds. I find this helps accuracy for the long range game but 3 gun probably doesn't matter. YMMV. A little side story, friend of mine was breaking a factory barrel in and after pushing a patch through found a sliver of copper that was caught on a burr in his barrel. Not saying its a consistent occurence but worth keeping in mind.
  2. A little mantra I like is 1 shot 2 sight pictures. It really makes me think about folllow through and aids in tracking the front sight.
  3. That sounds sick I just don't know if I would waste the time/money to cut the barrel down if you are just gonna put a big ass comp on it.
  4. I am currently running a Savage 110 w/ a ER Shaw in 243. Since I got the original rifle from my grandmother it cost nothing. I put a choate super sniper stock on it and a mueller 4-16 scope. I would recommend a savage action for the ease of rebarreling if you want to go to a more exotic cartridge. The bolt throw is not as smooth as a remington but I think they are some of the better rifles on the market right now. I am getting .4" groups out of mine and once i get my load recipe down i think it will decrease. +1 on the McMillan stocked versions.
  5. Buddy of mine had the sme problem He was running a JP-15 and the magpuls wouldn'y lock back his bolt. He went to steel HK mags though
  6. saw some recently either on high speed gear or eagle. they where for an AR mag and an M9 mag. Another option would be to get a single molle mag pouch that has a molle on the front and put a pistol pouch on the front.
  7. +1 on the aimpoint my dad and I have put on everything from a 5.56 to a 50 machine gun, no breakage problems. An Eotech would also work well if you wanted a hud.
  8. For no slip 1911 grips try simonich gunner grips. When shooting the glock I have started using rosin and it works pretty well.
  9. I have just turned 18 and for the past 4 or 5 years have been reloading my own ammo and help dad pay for components.
  10. I think this all gets back to the slow is smooth and smooth is fast facet of the game. However this post shows how much of this sport or any sport is mental.
  11. We don't get to many nasty days on the pistol range here, but shooting precision rifle in Potomac in November is interesting. I remember one match where it started out a beautiful day in the 40's and on the last station there were 1" snow flakes and we still had to move about 1/2 mile to the trucks.
  12. Have not fallen at a match, yet, knock on wood but did take a nasty one hunting this year. Going along the crest of a ridge after a light snow my foot found a covered rock and down I went. Luckily had the rifle in my hand and was able to pull it close and turned in the air ended up with a beautiful black and purple bruise on my left cheek for about a week.
  13. Newbie question. . . Where do you put the graphite on the Mags and is it pencil lead or another form?
  14. With the whole Tiger Woods eye blink thing, when I shoot precision rifle, before each shot I do a slow, smooth blink, with the idea that it closely resembles a trigger pull and also settles me into a calm, steady mind set. I also do alot of visualizing on some small problems I have when sitting around idle.
