  1. Yeah, it's a moot point for me, I have the 13/16 barrel, and have no complaints about it. Maybe a lighter shroud for the last 6" on a 10" barrel would be an idea...
  2. I'm saying make it a 10" barrel with a lightweight shroud for the remaining 6". If you want to cut compensator like ports on it, fine. I have a homemade 10/16 barrel that I made to repair a 16" barrel that squibbed & bulged in the last 3", it's got an aluminum shroud fit over the gas block spot (it's an M4 profile barrel) for the remaining 6". If you're saying your 10/16 wouldn't be any lighter than the 13/16 if the ports were the same as the 13/16 barrel, then I agree it would be silly. But if you could use a lighter shroud, and make the last 6" of barrel lightweight, it would be a good option. It's been my experience that you lose very little velocity cutting a barrel from 16" to 10". So offering three options, 14.5" pinned & welded comp to 16", 13/16 exactly how yours is (not complaining about this, it's nice, and weights about the same as my cut 16" with aluminum shroud), and 10/16 with normal ports mimicking a compensator at the end of a barrel, so you can use a 13" or 14" handguard. Essentially the last 6" (plus required overlap for pinning & welding) is lightweight material, with ports cut where a normal compensator would be on a pinned & welded 14.5" barrel. It's harder to make this make sense on a keyboard than in person, sorry if it sounds like I'm rambling..
  3. I wish the 10/16 barrel had no vents up to the point where the 13/16 does, in other words, a long tube to the last three inches, then the vents. I have a homemade 10/16 barrel (I squibbed it, and shot three more times, but the bulges were in the last 3", so I cut it at the end of the gas block space and pinned & welded a 3/4" ID aluminum tube in place) and love the way it shoots. I have your 13/16, would have bought the 10/16 if the vents mimicked the 13/16. Does any of this make sense?
  4. A Colt GCNM 9mm and Springfield Loaded Target 9mm both work fine with Metalform mags. I bought two when I got the Springfield, they worked, so I bought ten more. Never felt the need to try others, and the Metalforms cost less than Springfield nine round magazines. The both worked well with the stock magazines as well, sold the Springfield stock mags cause ten rounds is one round better than nine rounds.
  5. Taccom is like $70.00 - $240.00 than the other two. If the ramp on it works with the JP lower, I don't see any reason to spend the extra money on the other options. Get the foam "handguard", and I doubt there's a lighter combination out there.
  6. Sig, Beretta, Ruger, and any number of other companies make aluminum frame pistols almost exclusively, and they have no durability issues that I'm aware of. Is steel more durable? Yes, I won't argue that point, but does a 1911, especially one chambered in 9mm going to work the frame harder than a Sig 229, Beretta 92FS, or Ruger P89? On a 1911, as long as it's a ramped barrel, I can't imagine there'd be any issues. Unless I'm wrong...
  7. I've done two, with the only consideration for light weight being the barrel. On the AR9 Glock gun, I have the Taccom 13/16 barrel, and an 12" handguard (I think). With optic and aluminum Brian Miller magwell it comes in at 7 lbs 1 oz. On the AR9 Colt gun I have a barrel that had three squibs shot into it causing bulging at the last 2" of barrel. No other apparent damage, so I cut the barrel to 10", and pinned and welded an aluminum tube on the flat where the gas block would sit. This gun weighs 7 lbs 5 oz with a 13" handguard. Both are side charging, the Colt gun has a Matrix Arms upper, the Glock gun has a NFA upper. With the Taccom superfeed barrel, the Glock gun is smooth. It also has the Taccom 3 stage buffer. The Colt gun barrel came with the Glock gun (ATI, NFA clone), and has a KVP buffer. Both work well, if I have to pick one that runs smoother, it would be the Colt mag gun. Excuse the horrid grip fins, California makes having fun tiresome.
  8. Colt pattern works well with good mags. They're as affordable as Glock mags, and they feed really well. I have a Spike's Colt mag lower that is great. For me the Colt mags insert into the gun and lock in place easier than the Glock mags, and the Colt mags have a way more reliable LRBHO. Metalform mags work well for me. I have some ASC mags that I had to make work, took the coating off and used modified Metalform followers. The coating on the ASC mags is all but useless, and when removed, you have stainless mags that go into and drop from the gun nicely.
  9. Got two, both didn't work well in Spikes Colt pattern lower with a bolt with an aggressive hammer reset ramp (the rail on the bolt that resets the hammer). Had issues with the disconnector and resetting.
  10. Got a NFA side charger on a Glock mag NFA clone lower from ATI gun and a Matrix Arms on a Spikes Colt lower. Both work great, as stated make cycling bolt easier, and not a huge deal, but still cool. When I got them, they were on sale for about $150.00 or so. They're cool, and I like them but I wouldn't spend more than what I did on them. LRBHO on NFA is less than impressive, almost never worked, so I removed it. Matrix Arms is on a Colt mag lower, so uses LRBHO in the lower, better option.
  11. Per the article, "available soon". I'm keeping my eye out, because the price is good, it deals with the mag catch issue, and it improves the looks of the gun. Of course those improvements in looks go out the door when I have to put a fin on the pistol grip to comply with California's stupid laws.
  12. Promag seems like a nice option, and they fixed the mag catch issue too. https://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2020/01/28/promag-ruger-pc9-stock-m1a-cz-scorpion-drum-mags/
  13. Yeah, I shot it my results are in the original post.
  14. If adjusting the face of the ejector doesn't work, I may try this, though the bolt goes far enough back to lock open on empty, so I doubt this is the issue. We'll see. Looks like the brass is hitting the top edge of the ejection port, hopefully changing ejector face geometry fixes it.
  15. Forgot to add, mags feed perfectly, no issues there either.
  16. Got a Spike's Tactical Colt pattern lower, with Wilson barrel and a bolt I forget where i got. Basic heavy buffer, spacers to limit bolt travel, and AR spring in a Matrix Arms side charging upper. Having ejection issues. brass won't leave ejection port. I'm trying to start by tweaking angle on face of ejector, anyone else know of anything else I might try on this to get it to work? Feeds perfectly, no issues, smooth, no hiccups. Just won't eject worth a crap. Thanks. Bob
  17. That buttstock angle is hideous. Straighten it out and let me use a riser on my dot, PLEASE. Nice job with the mag catch.
  18. Tripp .40S&W magazines are the best, or at least have been for me. Others work, but with the Tripp you get 9 rounds (no Barney mag necessary).
  19. I use them for function testing, not dry fire, but some like to mimic the weight of a mag with rounds in it, and some are under the impression that guns are delicate like watches, and want to use them, along with expensive, exotic lubes, and $150.00 Pelican cases for transport. To each his own. Your gun, do what you want with it.
  20. They look less real than home-made dummy rounds... I keep them in a drawer in my gun tool chest, and there's no other ammo in my garage unless I'm reloading, so there's little chance of mixing them up. And the 9mm caps have a more pointy profile than actual bullets. You could also use a marker and make the case heads black or whatever color you want.
  21. KP Tactical on EBay sells solid brass, lathe turned snap caps wit rubber inserts in the primer pocket for a reasonable price. Or used to sell, or used to be reasonably priced, I haven't bought any in years. They're sold out right now.
  22. ATI (NFA clone) Glock mag gun, works fine. Got a Spikes Colt pattern lower on another. Works fine. No preference, but the Colt mags seem to drop free better than the Glock mags.
  23. Got a 16" barrel that had a few squibs, ruined the last three inches of barrel, but the first 13" was fine. I cut it just after the gas block location (10"), then got some .75" ID lightweight tubing pinned and welded on the end. Effective 10" barrel, but the gun feels so much more controllable. No loss in velocity, so I didn't have to change the load either.
