  1. Target Barn hands down. We had been using Target Barn for years until our club VP decided to shop by price. One supplier's targets were as you described very difficult to see the scoring lines. Another supplier had good perforations on the shoot side of the target but the non scoring border on the white side of the target was missing on most of, if not all of the target; This wasn't just a few targets, but a lot of 500 targets. Unless someone wants to donate our targets, we won't buy anything but Target Barn targets and pasters.
  2. We've started using Rustoleum Upside-down Marking paint in white for our steel. Cost at "Homer's" is about $5.25/can. The stuff is thick and really covers. I'm kind of guessing at the moment based on last weekends match, but you can paint from top to bottom roughly 20 full size poppers with one can and only make one pass, one coat, and it is done. I've always been pretty cheap when it comes to match set-up supplies but have learned over the years that sometimes more expensive initially saves money in the long run and this is one of those products.
  3. Bummer. I don't think I'll be able to shoot Saturday or Sunday. Come on up if things change for you. We'll make room! Thanks John. This is Paul Carlson. I was particularly looking forward to the match as a chance to catch up with old friends. I'm going to give it some time before I pull out. See if I can make something happen. Hi Paul, Was surprised to see your name in the entry list and was looking forward to seeing you. Hope you'll still be able to make it up here and shoot. Jim H
  4. Southeast Michigan Practical Shooters (S.E.M.P.S.) IPSC 101 If you've ever thought you might like to try shooting an IPSC match, but felt Intimidated by: • Lack of experience in formal competition • Lack of confidence in your marksmanship skills or your gun handling ability • Fear of embarrassing yourself; • Fear of the unknown; • Or ladies – too many men/not enough women shooters Fear no more, this is the clinic for you! On Saturday April 25, 2009 we are having an “Introduction to IPSC” shooting clinic. The clinic will be held at the Livingston Gun Club range located at 2440 Hunter Rd, Brighton, MI. The clinic is going to be geared for both the beginner shooter who has at least the knowledge of basic pistol skills and those with experience in other shooting disciplines (IDPA, NRA Bulls eye, PPC, etc.) that have an interest in trying our exciting sport. The class will cover: *Range Safety and Procedures *Equipment *Divisions & Classification System *Scoring *Courses of Fire At the end of the classroom instruction we will go down to the ranges and shoot a couple of stages typical of an IPSC match What to bring: Eye and ear protection (Mandatory on LGC ranges) Handgun: Semi-Automatic or Revolver (minimum 9mm caliber) At least 2 magazines (3 - 4 would be better) or speed loaders/moon clips for revolver to provide at least 24 rds. About 50 rounds of ammo. Holster and magazine or speed loader holders (Not mandatory, but if you have ‘em, bring ‘em) Notebook and writing utensil Starting time is 10:00 AM and the class should take about 4 hours. No food will be served but pop and snacks are available. Cost : Free! No pre-registration required For a map to our facility and a schedule of our matches, check our web site at: http://www.livingstongunclub.org/ For more information contact: Jim at jimh714@earthlink.net
  5. Michigan, I wish we all had your problems, The chance to shoot 2 major matches on one weekend. After we found out about the scheduling conflict we decided to open some slots for Saturday so that shooters could shoot the Open on Sat and the Up North Classic on Sunday. The only real problem with thatt is if you were one of the Top 4 for IPSC or IDPA and qualified for the Shootoff on Sunday. Sandbagging can always be a problem. We can pretty much police the USPSA guys either from our usual contact with them or through the USPSA classifier system. The IDPA guys? It will be a little tougher. We do have a few ways to determine that they are in the correct classification at least
  6. Hi Flex We will be using basically the 1911 SS Society rules. With range operations from the USPSA rulebook. We asked for a waiver from USPSA to allow non-members (IDPA) to shoot under Level II status but they turned us down on that. So we decided to go "outlaw instead of USPSA sanction. We are hoping to get a good crossover from the IDPA guys to introduce them to USPSA style stages and competioion. Dividing the IDPA shooters and the IPSC will hopefully be simple. When you register for the match you declare either USPSA or IDPA divisions. One or the other but not both. The match can actually be shot in one day. Sunday is the regular match day and Sat is for staff. We will allow some competitors on Saturday but again you have to shoot with staff and we all know how that can go in regareds to de-bugging the stages. Also since setting the match date we found we are up against an IDPA Regional match in northern Michigan. We would like to offer the availability for a competitor to shoot both matches if they want. As to awarding the losers guns to the winner? Hmmm......interesting concept. I would say go for it! It would make for some interseting after match entertainment. Put a new meaning to the definition of a "Shoot-off" if you catch my drift Hope to see you up at Livingston Gun Club on July 28 or 29.
  7. Good chance I will be in east central Florida on and near Jan 24 and 25. What are my shooting options for an IPSC match that weekend? Thanks in advance
  8. I suddenly started having a problem with my primer bar not fully returning. I knew the primer slide was clean as I had just switched from Sm. primers to the Lg. and had done a thorough cleaning. The problem turned out to be very slight corrosion at the pivot point of the operating rod where it is seated in the operating rod bracket. I pulled the rod out and sanded it a bit with some Scotchbrite, put a drop of oil on the rod and re-inserted it. Problem solved
  9. Patrick, Why not just shoot CDP? I'm sure you must have a 1911 .45 lying around and some 8 rd. mags.
