  1. I've been running my 16" rifle length MicroMOA carbine for 3 years now, about 5k with full power hand loads, 2950 ish with 55 gr blitzkings. Besides a few cosmetic wears on the carrier, everything else is fine. Gas block is SLR Sentry 7, Taccom ULW buffer with std carbine spring. A minor hiccup this year due to the new bolt and one piece gas ring (this gas ring isn't made for Whiskey carrier due to stacking tolerances, needing to run wet all the times!).
  2. Solution - Outlaw 20" barrel ARs and all "193" speed problems would go away Eric, put down your JP CTR02! Seriously, just keep steel targets where they belong - out there beyond the 100 yds mark, or expect dings and dimples. The un intended consequence of putting steel at short range <100 yds, most shooters would use 'cheap' stuff and '193' FMJs are now plenty cheap, you are going to see more dings in those thin steel targets.
  3. 2017 RM3G is now history. Very well done stages! Kudos to all hard working ROs and match staffs, you guys/gals pulled this match off in the rain (and hail) not at all typical of Raton in August. Challenging rifle shooting has been RM3G's DNA from the get go and 2017 re-affirmed it - A great mix of long and intermediate range targets combined with field courses made it awesome! Nothing was more satisfying than seeing the 530 yds flashes went off on the first/second shot . Thanks for keeping those targets painted, for limited iron guy, I had almost no trouble identifying steel at this year's match.
  4. I would love to see the re-application of 00 buckshots in shotgunning. The challenge of getting 8-9 pellets on the target without hitting No Shoot targets is what it is all about, IMO. (I can hear "flite control" coming ) I was wondering how you can run a 2 gun division in a 3 gun match, and there it is. It also means no flying birds, no moving clays (as in wig wags).
  5. MicroMOA made the "Governor" (sp?) which is a sliding plate to regulate gas flow through metered orifice. 16" rifle length has been around for awhile, started back in 2000-ish by DPMS. It was problematic due to gas port sizing vs. loads and ambient temperatures. Extreme cold weather messed up the reliability. I initially didn't want to go there with the MOA barrel but looking at my match schedule, never shot any matches in middle of winter so that took the low temperatures out of the equation. Mine has been good using adjustable gas block/alum BCG/Taccom ultralight buffer system.
  6. MicroMOA is done (for now) because of issues with family. I just happen to have 2 of their 16" barrels, one is fluted taper profile with rifle length gas. Both are outstanding shooters. Wish I had grab the 17.3" last year before they suspended business.
  7. OP, welcome to the forum. This has nothing to do with PF or recoil, or knocking down steel at 50 yds, we can all do that with pu$$y load 9mm. Eddie's favorite line "9mm makes you weak" holds true to this day . It is the mystique of shooting a .45 ACP, big, heavy, finicky sometimes, but we all love it. Come shoot with us at 2018 He Man National in Raton, NM. Much laid back atmosphere and deceptively challenging. Where else can you shoot a rifle stage that will set you back $50 in ammo cost for one stage (that if you don't miss)?
  8. Thank you Dan for the offer. I don't load that way but might need to change out of necessity, my weak hand tends to get cramps when I get dehydrated.
  9. No Sir, I'm using 6 shells carriers so 8x6 = 48 plus 9 = 57 rds...that oughta be more than enough .
  10. Fill us in amigo. What does the reticle look like?
  11. One of the "un-intended" consequences of bird traps, wheels and throwers is the reset. Yes, as some have said, reset effort doesn't matter because shooters must do the reset in 99% of the cases, but the reset must be done correctly or activators don't activate, wheels don't turn and birds don't fly => Automatic reshoot! Most recent match we had 3 stages with activators that didn't activate because resets were not done correctly (as in matching the end of the stick to the color painted on the wheel, trap door got clogged with sand, blah blah). What fun in reshooting a 40 rds stage toward the end of the run? Certainly not fun when shooters have to keep resetting the stage 5 times for the same shooter? I'm sure some will say "I'm getting my money's worth" just like going to a "buf-fet" eatery and get your money's worth. Also, I am sure it wasn't fun to be the ROs on those stages to be out there all day and have the stage gets backed up due to stage failures.
  12. Dan, perhaps it was fun for some . As with anything, we can be "over the top" just to out do the previous match. Personally I think it is ridiculous but hey, not my match so I would have to either put up with it if I want to come and play, or simply stay home.
  13. I was just trying to understand the logic behind the "super shotgun" stage designs, no need to tell me to start my own match.
  14. I'm curious as to why some stage designers/MDs feel the need for high round count shotgun stages? Once upon a time, 3-gun matches started out with shotgun stages never more than 25 rds but with tight/difficult shooting stage design. Then the morphing to high round counts began (if I remembered correctly) at 2006 (?) Missouri 3-Gun where we had a 39 rds shotgun stage with lots of steel and some tight shooting windows so that was still fun and challenging. However, the 'carnival' stages started to show up with rotating wheels and flying birds/rabbits, more like a skeet shoot while moseying down the path to the next shooting station. Such stage design requires lots of set up and hard on the ROs, not to mention beginners who don't have enough shell carriers and old guys who could hardly breath while shooting let alone carrying a bucket of lead.
  15. The hardest part was to get myself to do it One item I skipped in the original post was to file down the factory safety to get a wide & flat surface for the extra plastic piece to sit on and to make it easier to position the reinforcing pins. Got a few live fire practices in and this add on worked beautifully. The Cajun short reset helped but someone needs to make a SA only trigger! (I'm sure I will hear "get an STI and be done" sooner or later )
  16. That's what I had to do with 115 and 124 gr Precision Delta JHP bullets to work in both P09 and CTS, 1.083 OAL. Round nose bullets do not have the same issue due to bullet profile.
  17. I posted it on CZforum as well. Tired of waiting around for someone to make money off me by offering an enlarged safety for the P09, so I made one up with a new safety, a chunk of plastic, 2 nails, and small amount of J-B Weld. About an hour of work + a day cure time. Plastic piece came from leftover Teklok belt spacer. I drilled 2 holes in both pieces, inserted the nails cut to fit for support, and welded them together w/ JB. Shaped/contoured the add on plastic after JB weld cured. Yeah I know, tool markings isn't nice but the part is functional I can now ride the safety like a 1911.
  18. I've been using 124 PD JHP over 4 grs of titegroup for both pistol and 16" carbine. Loading mine short for the CZ TS and P09 @ 1.083 but that also work for my Scorpion and Kriss V
  19. I wish that was true Dan With proper amount of practice and prep, I would have seen the issue with Freedom Munition 168 gr being a tad long for my 308. They were sticking in the rifling and some even prevented the bolt from going completely into battery resulted in no bang/tap/rack/no bang/#@!! I switched over to my back up ammo to burn it up. Stage 4, 5, and 6. Had to dip into my backup American Eagle 168 gr BTHP for 7 after I figured out the issue in the middle of Stage 6! ...With that said, I had loads of fun this year regardless!
  20. Another one in the book! I have to say 2017 He Man stages were the best of all! Just straight up shooting that challenged your skills set. I should practice more than just one Sunday before the match !
  21. Sounds like fun with a PCC. Colorado Rifle Club is a great facility so for those who are not familiar, http://crci.org/
  22. Not significantly better than factory in 3 of my M&P Pro. Don't waste your $.
