  1. Agree. Cost asides, it is up to the (local) match director. Most larger/major matches I don't believe you can play with 5.7x28.
  2. The early versions of 6-rds shotshells caddy and 2-rds belt carrier are still available - https://www.riflestock.com/store/product-category/misc-products/shot-shell-holders/ I modified mine with belt clips from M-12 military pistol holster for quick on-off (years before Tek-Lok ). California Comp Works used to make 4-rds caddy but no longer available. https://www.midwayusa.com/product/2394156343
  3. Hmmm...I didn't think about this part. I don't have a comp on mine yet but the 'diminishing return' effect will make me think twice before shelling out $.
  4. Quick update - These low recoil slugs are good to go in the GEN-12. All 10 rds went into the MGM B/C steel at 100 yds while being supported off a metal fence post so I didn't even look at the grouping. BTW, the Swampfox Kingslayer is still alive and well. I also like the 5-rds magazine much better for fast swapping of loads so will have to order a couple more. https://www.freedommunitions.com/12-ga-2-3-4-x-treme-slug-reduced-recoil-plain-lead.html
  5. I'm using one from 2A after I ran into issues with Whiskey Arms AL carrier. The change in weight is negligible. I have the original JP AL from years past, it still works fine but got moved to the backup gun.
  6. https://www.brownells.com/gunsmith-tools-supplies/rifle-tools/gas-system-tools/gas-block-genie-ar-15-gas-block-alignment-tool-prod124593.aspx I used this little plastic device and a sharpie to locate & mark the barrel for the exact alignment. It will also allow you to indicate on the barrel how far should the gas block be inserted for those barrels made for front sight tower. Watch the imbedded video on Brownells product page for clarity on how to use it.
  7. Yep, we certainly are 'tinderers' and most of the times, good enough doesn't mean we stop testing new gizzmos. I'm currently running a JP LMOS w/ HP bolt in my 18" rifle length gas with adj gas block and Lancer Nitrous 3-port brake. I used to run the VG6 Gamma in my older 16" midlength with adj gas but its performance was no where near the Nitrous's so it now has the same brake as the 18".
  8. You did not mention the following items #1) Brake, #2) An adjustable gas block (or means to adjust the gas flow into the BCG). If those don't exist in your build, get them and tune your moving mass (BCG) after. 308 fbffer & spring tuning would be the last things to think about (and they yield minimal improvements to recoild management). Regarding adjustable buffer - No, I don't have long term experience. Only played with the JP captured spring/buffer system and hated it the added weight.
  9. Fiocchi slugs just sux eggs out of this shotty. I gave it a few rounds last week just to see perhaps a different lot would be different, and nope, 5 out of 5 tanked the extraction/ejection cycle so I'm saving the rest for my Nellis. I tested the Brenneke and they all worked beautifully, best accuracy out of this shotgun also. https://www.brennekeusa.com/law-enforcement-ammunition/thdr-tactical-home-defense/ Next up was the good old standby B&P Target Slugs - No Go! I didn't bring any of the newer 3-Gun B&P slugs but the older blue color target slugs failed to extract/eject. I just got in a case of X-Treme Low Recoil slugs so will run another test after the holidays.
  10. You're welcome! By the way, I added a Limbsaver recoil pad to the stock and boy, it sure made a huge difference in perceived recoil. Since it added 5/8" LOP to the gun, I swapped out the stock back to a Magpul SL to accommodate the added LOP.
  11. That's the choke tube I'm using (seemed like the only game in town for that matter). I put the original thread protector back on it with a bit of loc-tite. Regarding the added weight, I don't think it really noticeable since most of weight sits at the upper receiver. I don't have a brake so can't tell you how much the combination of choke tube + muzzle brake would affect the forward weight of the gun. Hope you get your form approved quickly.
  12. Nice factory gun but it is quite a bit behind.
  13. Quick update - Went out to sight in for slugs the other day. I've made a couple of changes to this 1) Added a modified choke by SGM, 2) Changed out the stock to a Magpul Fixed Carbine stock, and put the SwampFox Kingslayer on top instead of the Vortex (just didn't like looking through a tube while swinging the gun. From old stash - Wolf Performance 7/8 oz 1400 fps slugs, and Fiocchi 12SLUGLE 7/8 oz 1300 fps. Both performed well in my Benelli M2. Wolf slugs did well beside beating me up a little when shot from support. 50 yds snaps were fun, the MGM B/C zone target rung loudly everytime. Fiocchi was another story, I've never had any of them hung up at the M2 ejection port, but all 20 failed to properly extract and eject. Bad/cheap hull construction I learned later through Patrick. Now I know why they were so cheap back then when you can buy an 80 rounds can for 55 bux ! I didn't bother doing accuracy testing at 100 yds at this point since I need to rethink what to use for low recoil slugs. 00 Buck - 9 pellets patterned into a 20" radius at 25 yds. #7 and 8 birdshots - Patterned into a 24"-ish radius at 25 yds. All impacts were at point of aim. I think the Modified choke is good to go. The SwampFox made it through but I need to swap out the green for red reticle. Many people raved about green color RDS but for me red is much better in bright sunny days. In summary I'm liking this Gen12 shotgun!
  14. Out of curiousity I did a search and RSR Group has this brand listed under Ortho. I don't have a dealer account so can't see pricing or availability https://www.rsrgroup.com/search?Category=5&Facets[exclusive]=on&Facets[DEPT][]=zzz_5&Facets[MAN][]=zzz_orthos&LastFacet=MAN_zzz_orthos
  15. And here we are, 3 months later: The new Gen-12 18" is mated to a Sun Devil lower (Larue 2-stage trigger, std 308 carbine spring and buffer. Both 5 and 10 rounds magazines fit perfectly. Test functioned with 150 rds of #8/#7.5 birds, full power and low recoil 00 buck, 4 buck, full power and low recoil slugs, I was totally surprised that it ran without a single hiccup! More than 1/2 of the ammo tested came from my bag of match pickups (some were pretty ugly and rusted). I even loaded a few magazines with them all mixed together (aka 'Happy Family' dish from the local Chinese diner ). The short-recoil operation is definitely not softer than my Benelli M2, it is subjectively somewhere in between the M2 and M1 Benelli. In the long run, what I would like to have is a longer charging handle to help my weak hand clear the optic, and an ambi magazine release that pivots off the left side of the receiver. The only thing that failed during my initial test run - A new Holosun 510C! Its reflective glass must have launched into oblivion during one of the recoiling events. RMA was issued by Holosun for a warranty call so no harm done there. We will see how the old Vortex prism optic would handle the recoil. If not, a new SwamFox Optics Kingslayer is on deck ready for a try out (or funeral). Overall, I'm very pleased with this new toy. I've seen so many mag-fed shotguns taken a dump in matches that I've RO'd, and told myself to stay away from them, but after watching Patrick's videos, I was convinced the 'better than sliced bread' for mag fed shotgun is here with the Gen-12. Looks like I'll be joining in the Open Class soon .
  16. I've played with quite a few adj. gas blocks and as the free float tube gets smaller and smaller, their inside diameters don't play nice with the gas blocks even the low profile ones, so I've switched over to trimming the gas at the carrier using either an adjustable gas key (Rubber City Armory) or adjustable carrier (2A). With the adjustable gas key in a lightweight BCG, I have been able to 'modernize' the old M16A1 style AR to a much softer shooting rifle (granted, it doesn't have much recoil in the first place) for the last match outing.
  17. You won't regret it. Like I have said, mine is a consistent moa shooter with 55 gr. blitzkings in the last 3-4 years I've been shooting this 18" stick in 3 gun matches. Wise choice to keep the current handguard, save $ for a new brake.
  18. Yep, when your budget can't afford the JP or Proof Research barrel, whatever I put together is automatically placed in 'peasant-class'
  19. For a 'peasant-class' rifle, these are the tickets - https://www.ballisticadvantage.com/18-223-wylde-spr-fluted-stainless-steel-rifle-length-ar-15-barrel-premium-series.html. The super wide fluting is very cool and shaved more weight than standard fluting. I've been using this barrel for the last few years, consistent moa with 55 gr Blitzkings. Get the barrel first and see what you might need to do for a tighter fit to your 2 slick side uppers. However, the obvious option to me if you want a tight fitting barrel to upper, is to use the BCM upper, 'fit once cry once' kind of thing. Right to Bear used to make flat tops with tighter tolerances for an interference fit similar to BCM but they've been OOS for a while. JP 3-ports Ti brake is highly recommended. Good luck with your new assembly.
  20. Thanks for a great match!!! Shooting true iron sight isn't as easy as it seemed but it sure was fun.
  21. Burris XTRII 1-5 SFP is what I'm using. I do have 2 Burris RT-6s (on my AR10s) that are very good as well.
  22. JP 3-ports Ti - https://jprifles.com/buy.php?item=JPTRE3-2TI
  23. For 3 gunning, 1-4, 1-5 and maybe 1-6x. Great glass in a 1-4x is much better than mediocre glass at 1-8. I went from 1X, to 1.5-8x DFP, and back to 1-5x SFP and it is in a sweet spot for me.
  24. Benellis are inertia operated so their felt recoils will never be as 'soft' as gas gun (Beretta 1301, Rem, etc). The Limp Saver pad recommended by Kurt will certainly be better for your shoulder pocket than the original 'Nelli pad but don't get your hopes up for a softer recoil. Techniques will get you used to the Nelli trade marks. I'm 150 lbs and have shot everything from light birds to full on slugs in 3 gun matches for years with the old M1 and hardly noticed the recoil anymore (and I still have all my original teeth ).
