  1. Well, I got the phenomenon of set back, but without any split cases. My 4x fired Federal (largely from American Eagle). I can understand that work hardening could result in low neck tension and set back even without splits - if you consider that a possibilty.
  2. If I may thread jack a bit - is this increased susceptibility to bullet set back a normal symptom of well used brass? Many thanks.
  3. Yes, but I would not classify that as "in stock". Their ill-defined lead time is indicative of the tight supply. I scored one last week from Bear Basin.
  4. I bought mine at OpticsPlanet.com. I had called the Swaro offices and they said that were filling back orders first. Took about 2 months at the end of 2008. I have the same one you are looking for, I love it! Doug They don't list it on their web page.
  5. Part # 59136; illuminated circle dot; normal, non-extended eye relief. SWFA took my order on line, only to e-mail me back and say they were out of stock. Does anybody know of a reliable vendor with stock? Many thanks.
  6. I'm not going to be 3-gunning, but from what I've read here, you are the right folks to ask. I've got a 16" LWRC in 5.56, and I shoot on a range at 25, 50, 100, and 150 yards. I'm looking for an optic that will allow me to both perform high speed shooting into silhouette targets at 25 yards, and shoot groups off a bench at 100 yards well enough to evaluate differences in ammunition. If you think that's already too much to ask of one optic, stop me now. I'm very interested in the TR24, and so basically my question regarding the reticles is which would be the best compromise? Would the triangle be too imprecise for me at 100 yards? Would the German #4 with dot be too slow up close? What is the size of the dot? Is the answer too dependant on the shooter to say? Am also interested in the Swarovski Z6i 1-6x, because of the greater magnification. How would that reticle work for my application? Does anybody know what the size of the dot is here? Many thanks, Joe
  7. So this is what happens when I leave? Gee, what kind of club isn't open to ALL IDPA shooters?
  8. Used extensively in IDPA with a Glock 17; loved every minute of it: 4.2 grains W231; 124 grain West Coast Round Nose; 1.105" x 0.377" 1043 fps; 25 fps extreme spread; standard deviation 7 fps; PF 129.3. Tried it in my 9mm 1911 and didn't like it at all.
  9. My IR screens have always worked great, and I have better luck outside if I use them. I've had some problems with sensors going bad, on a couple of occassions, and have gotten absolutely exemplary customer service out of CED.
  10. Forgot to mention that my left hand trigger finger mag release is also facilitated by a cut-down mag release button, bevelled mag release button hole, and a light mag release spring.
  11. I swear most semi's are set up better for left handers to begin with. I'm doing what Sac Law Man described. I think moving the left thumb below the safety also makes turning the gun for mag insertion easier. For slide lock reloads, after using the trigger finger on the mag release, I put it on the slide lock lever, and get that slide forward right after the mag insertion.

    S&W Match?

I tried, but that link comes up almost unintelligably for me.

    S&W Match?

Pete, As I recall (and that's not saying much) IDPA was always the last to post the Winternationals results. Harry (downzero.com) and/or Smith & Wesson themselves would have them long before. How about Harry? Would he still be up for it? Sorry for pestering - I'm just incredibly interested, as this used to be my main match and I know alot of people who shoot it. And as more and more people are discovering, it is a quality match. 2cats

    S&W Match?

Jesus tap-dancing Christ. Isn't it a 5 minute job to cut and paste and add this to a web page?

    S&W Match?

Are the results going to be disseminated by a chain letter this year?

    S&W Match?

I seem to remember that the reults show up at www.downzero.com long before IDPA puts them up. On occassion, S&W itself has posted them in a timely fashion.

    S&W Match?

Know any results? Many thanks, 2cats
  18. Do whatever it takes to make the head shots - because whatever it takes won't be more than the 2.5 seconds they are worth. Most beginning IDPA'ers die on Stage 3, putting shots off paper that they just can't believe. Aiming is important here. I personally believe that a reload with retention on the first string is about a second faster than a tac reload, for me. I haven't thought about the second string too much - I usually do a tac reload for that.
  19. 42.5 ounces. Contest is over.
  20. You know, if I had spent as much time reading the new rule book as I did on the forums (fora?), I'd know everything that's going on now, and have some valuable opinions. I'll try to read the new revised book over the weekend, and send any level-headed e-mails to head quarters that I can muster. Like I said, the ESP weight limit hasn't changed, and if my gun is over weight, it's my own damn fault. Depending on how much it's over, I suppose it could be lightened some. Otherwise, it's new gun time. I realize that some people can't just up and buy a new gun to compete in IDPA (the Catch-22 there is just too perfect, don't you think?), and I do really feel for them. Care to take a chance for my gratitude? Due gatos
  21. If I could trouble you folks - I did a little research on the net, and couldn't find a number that I thought would apply accurately to my gun. And I don't have access to a scale that can weigh 42.999 ounces accurately. I'd like to know if I'm legal. Caspian Government in Stainless Steel 9mm Kart barrel - so it's carbon steel instead of stainless S&A arched mainspring housing Wilson adjustable rear Full length stainless guide rod Brown ambi safety I know I should be slapped with a FTDR for even considering that a gun like this could/should be legal in today's IDPA (not that the ESP weight limit has changed, just that we're so much more tactical now). What do you think? Do I need to get a new holster, mag carrier AND a new $2400 gun? Many thanks, 2cats
  22. In particular, I'm thinking about the covering at least 50% of the tube rule. I think I know what to do about my holster, but I can't remember ever seeing mag carriers that cover more than half the tube. Many thanks, 2cats
  23. I don't think there's any real provision in the rule book for un-doing a procedural. People will sometimes invoke the principle of giving the shooter the benefit of the doubt. I think that was written specifically with target scoring in mind (along with the prohibition against using scoring templates) - did the shot hit the line or not? People have corrupted the principle of giving the shooter "the benefit of the doubt " into "being nice" - and not following the rules. Then there are people who state, as you have mentioned in your example, that the shooter effectively has penalized himself with added time through the commission of the procedural, and therefore should be spared. Again, I know of know provision to cut slack for those who violate the rules inefficiently. Similarly, there is the notion (perhaps identical, or a subset of the previous "self-penalization" doctrine) that there should be no procedural if the shooter doesn't gain a competitive advantage. That still doesn't get them off the hook vis a vis following the course of fire. I think the procedural is a procedural, and can't be un-done.
  24. Having used both systems and thought about it alot, I think it comes down to your eyesight. The detractors of the Ashley system point out that the best shooters don't use them. Well, the best shooters aren't half blind out of shape late middle age people. When I used the small dot, I found it to be excellent in low light, since all you need to do is create the silhouette. And they worked fine for 25 yard head shots. One of the best and most accurate IDPA shooters around here uses the big dot system. I'd encourage anyone to try them for a good while.
  25. These just came in the mail. They have Nick Weidhaas winning ESP SS, and I am unable to find Jerry Lashway. On the web page, they still list Lashway first in ESP SS, with Weidhaas second. Anybody know what's going on?
