Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Has anyone seen an official match announcement yet? I'm unable to find a registration application on-line. This is a great match and I don't want to miss out.
  2. Range was in good shape in spite of the rain. Stages were great. If Ray is designing stages, you know it's going to be good. Our little squad (#6) had to work hard (only 5 guys) but they were a friendly bunch and were hard workers. Don't think I've ever lost by 1/100 of a percent, geeze that was close (Single Stack). Thanks to EVERYONE that worked the match. I had fun, and I'll be back!
  3. Weather Channel is forecasting an additional 4-6 inches for this "area" overnight and into tomorrow.
  4. Any reports on the condition of the range. Heavy rain in Quincy as I type this.
  5. Congrats to Sam and you both. Both of you shot really solid matches. Fun to watch. Great match overall with really well thought out and tough stages. Thanks to all that worked so hard to put this together.
  6. Jammer 1911: That wreck you had took a while to unfold, but never once did the gun get close to an unsafe angle/area. Nice job! I've had a few of those myself over the years, and I know the feeling. And Mike, I can still hear those 40gr. 9mm Varmint Grenades going down range on the Standards at 3700 fps or whatever blistering speeds those things are doing. Why not just run a .223 next year and be done with it .
  7. I think the major/minor debate could go on forever. I wouldn't pick a caliber just by looking at stage diagrams on paper. At least for me, they don't mean much until I see the stage on the ground. I only look at them in advance to see if there are any unusual start positions. Were there times that I wished I had 2 extra rounds in this match...sure...and every match before it in the last 4 years shooting SS. And I'm sure there are times the 9mm guys wished they were shooting major as they were following the RO while being scored. As Mike indicated, the hotrods don't pick up many shots in a match. If I were to have my wife shoot SS, I think I would have her shoot minor just for the comfort zone/confidence building aspect, as she doesn't have a lot of match experience. This was my first WSSSC match and it won't be my last. Was fortunate to have some good friends and good shooters in our squad. It's fun to watch guys like Ron Avery, Mike C. and Robert K. If you're paying attention at all, you'll pick up knowledge from guys like this. Stages were good, and offered options. Weather was fantastic. The only thing I would change would be slightly smaller squads and a few less swingers . Thanks to all those that worked the match. We are already planning for next year.
  8. We are getting a lot of quality live fire practice in here too This morning on my way into work it was 4 degrees F with moderate to heavy snow. Expecting around 6 inches +. Looking forward to this match. You may appreciate what Weather.com is serving up for next week... Saturday: Mainly sunny. Highs in the low 70s and lows in the mid 40s. Sunday: Partly cloudy. Highs in the low 70s and lows in the low 40s. I'll take it! Does weather Weather.com take VISA? I'm tired of dry fire indoors. The way our weather is here, the first primer I smack for real might be the first one out on Saturday morning. It might be time to consider a time share in the Southwest.

  10. Thanks BillD and DWFAN. DWFAN; were you there this year or did you shoot a different division?
  11. This was another great Fall Classic. Perfect weather (the last 2 years), interesting but not overly complex stages, run in a timely fashion, and a great match staff and RO's. I was fortunate to be a in good squad that worked hard and was fun to shoot with. Thanks to all the guys in Squad 6. This match doesn't get alot of hype, but it's worth the 6 hour drive for us. Thanks again all. Waiting on results as well.
  12. About 10 years ago, I remember this skinny, college age kid showing up for our informal Monday evening match at the Eau Claire Police range. He was shooting a Baretta out of a Cordura type holster held up by a dress belt if my memory serves me. But he could shoot and I was impressed by his natural ability and willingness to learn. I moved away shortly after that evening but caught bits and pieces of his progress. Probably millions of dry fires, tens of thousands of rounds, countless hours on the range, and 10 years later, a Production Division National Champion. Congrats Ben!
  13. Shoot SS, and enjoy that wonderful feeling of being dang near out, even when you're topped off!
  14. Oh God, something else I have to practice...
