Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I love the Giraud trimmer but if you do a lot of trimming ,like a 3-gun shooter will have to do, it does wear on your hands. What I now do, and it is sort of expensive, is if I have a batch of once fired cases I single stage size and de-prime and then single stage trim them with a Dillon trimmer, whew, then I clean up the cases on the Giraud trimmer because it does a very nice job of deburring both the inside and outside of the case. Once you have the initial trimming out of the way,via the Dillon, it only takes a couple seconds a case with the Giraud to make some extremly consistent and beautiful cases then I run them in the tumbler one more time to get the lube off of them and then pour them in the 650.
  2. That is Tony. I was standing beside him when this picture was taken last weekend.
  3. Sometimes when you mix and match parts between the 3 1/2# connector the trigger spring and a light striker spring you run into problem like this. I have found that when I tried the trigger springs in the old alchemy arms kits with their connector it would work fine but if I put a wolff light striker spring in the mix I would get the same results as you have described. For some reason in older guns(5yrs and older) I got my best results with an Alchemy connector, wolff light striker spring and the factory trigger spring but in the newer guns I use the Glock factory 3 1/2# connector with the light striker spring and the facory trigger spring.(These mods are in 40's and 9mm)
  4. John, We have a club here in East Tennessee that occasionally runs revolver matches in a primitive only format, in other words, no loading devices of any kind(which is very similar to limited shotgun). You are limited to dump pouches, belt loops or pants pockets. I agree with Wide45 the guy in front sight had a point but not a very solid one. Shotguns are about the crudest firearms on the planet and figuring out ways to carry ammo to feed them even in limited class gets pretty ridiculous. But at the same time the fellow that comes to the line with a dozen full moon clips strung across his belt looking like Batman's utility belt is flirting with the ridiculous also. We do what we have to do to be competitive whether we are at the Handgun Nationals or the street. Og
  5. You need to call Dillon back and talk to someone else. I have had two of the CV500's crap out on me in the last eight years and they fixed them both in the usual Dillon tradition with no BS and no charge. Og
  6. Hey Guys, When you are mounting a traditional scope on an Ar-15 I see a lot of guys clamping both rings behind the center of the scope when they are mounting the smaller scopes for instance the Leupold VX2 1X4. I am calling the center of the scope where the adjustment knobs are located. I have to mount mine like this because I hold nose to charging handle and this gives me enough eye releif to shoot from just about any postion. I want to mount a Leupold VX3 2.5X8 on a JP upper that I have and I was thinking about using the A.R.M.S. quick release mount but my question is Can I mount this longer scope with both rings behind the center of the scope and not damage it or do I just need to get one of the extended bases and mount the scope properly?
  7. I use a Glock 35. I like using a Hi-cap gun because you only have room on you're belt for so many mag pouches. So I wind up with two spare mags for my pistol on my belt all the time and, depending on the stage, room left for a couple spare mags for my AR if needed and I am ready for just about any stage that I might run into. Most shooters appear to use either Glocks or STI/SV's but in all fairness there are a few competitive shooters that still use single stacks.
  8. Hey Les, What I have found that works for me is the Myoplex bars (at GNC). When you combine gatorade, water and the Myoplex bars you have a pretty good combination to keep you going. If the match is long on time and short on lunch I also fill in the empty spaces with a few Fig newtons and peanut butter crackers but the Myoplex bars are the main meal. To keep you're bars from melting you can fill you're camel bak or Hydrastorm(for those who like to patronize businesses that actually support our sport) with ice water and tuck a couple or three bars down inside the insulated cover next to the bladder and this will keep them from melting. 9. HR Henney I had the same problems with my 650's when I started loading on them 10yrs ago and just marked it up to the nature of the beast. Usually virgin brass needs to be fired and reloaded about three times before it will smoothly flow thru the dillon depending on the temper and thickness of that particular peice of brass. All I did was tough it out and do what it takes to get these cases loaded and fired and mark it up to experience. Just because this machine has this quirk it is still a fantastic loader and sometimes you have to make allowances for it's nature.
  10. I have used an ACOG TA-11 in 3-gun now for 3 years and like it fine but sometimes it leaves me wanting a more refined aiming point than the doughnut offers. I need some opinions on the other reticles like the chevron(TA-11F) and the triangle(TA-11D). The triangle looks like it would be a little aggravating at 300yds trying to estimate holdover without covering up the target but the chevron reticle looks interesting.
  11. I just ran across some A-merc that not only do you have to hook a cheater bar to you're favorite dillon to break these things loose from the flaring/powder die but the primers were literally falling out of them when they fell into the ammo bin. I have run into the same problems with the different brands of brass mentioned previously by the other posts but one that hasn't been mentioned is the shallow primer pockets on the WCCxx match brass. I have found that this head stamp is the major contributor to most of the high primers that I find. Og

    7.62 Load

Hey Cowboy, Here is my old Hi-power standard for 308 168gr hpbt Sierra Matchking 40.5gr IMR 4895 Win Primer Oal 2.800 I think that 2600 fps was about right for this load out of my old Springfield M1A supermatch. I havent chronographed this load out of my bolt guns yet but it is still a very consistent performer in any gun I have tried it in. Og
  13. Hey 40major I have the exact same setup (a 650 that is 10yrs old) and was giving me the exact same problems with 40. To fix the problem I installed a white peice of nylon or delrin with a hole through it that actually fills the funnel area to just above the cut off switch. This adapter came from Dillon some years ago but I can't remember if it came with a conversion kit for another caliber or what but what it does is sort of extends the drop tube all the way up to the hole where the case feeder drops into the funnel. When you install this thing it looks like the cases don't get enough time to fall out of the case feeder and get into the tube without getting bound up in the feeder plate because all that free drop from the case feeder to the funnel is gone. This is really hard to explain in writing but if you are interested E-mail me and we can exchange phone numbers and see if I can make this any clearer. Og
  14. Hey guys this is my first posting ever but it looks like this is the place to be. If you want a standard for this drill I saw Jeff Cramblit and Todd Salmon both shoot 5 full size poppers at 10yds approximately two feet apart in 1.3 seconds from a high ready position. This was at the Southeastern tactical shotgun championships two months ago. When we reviewed the timer their first shot was in the .47-.50 range and their splits ran around .2.
