  1. Central Iowa Ruger Rimfire State Championship The Ankeny Ikes Practical Shooters and the Dragoon Trail Chapter of the Izaak Walton League are proud to announce the 2012 Central Iowa Ruger Rimfire State Championship on August 18, 2012. We will feature 10 rifle and pistol stages with an all rifle competition for our youngest competitors. This match is a family event and we encourage lady and youth shooters with reduced registration fees. Our range is conveniently located just 10 minutes north of the Des Moines with easy access to local hotels. We anticipate a packed crowd! This is an opportunity to shoot 10 courses of fire while using .22 caliber rifles and pistols. A simple rifle and handgun will do just fine though there is a category for all the bells and whistles. This event is very beginner and family friendly and features many reactive steel targets. You get the instant satisfaction is hearing the steel RING! Location: The Dragoon Trail Chapter of the Izaak Walton League of America Address of the facility: 4857 NE 110th Ave. Elkhart, IA 50073 (Just North of the Des Moines Metro Area) August 18, 2012 Match Fees: $40.00 - $20.00 for Youth, Juniors and Ladies 4 rifle & 6 pistol stages, 250 round minimum (All rifle for youth shooters - 13 years of age and under) Entry deadline August 11, 2012, Match limited to 80 entries For more information go to www.ankenyikes.org. 2. Even if you don't want to RO, this is a great class to make sure you have a firm grasp of the rules of the game. And, IMO, knowing the rules makes you a better competitor!
  3. I shot left handed for awhile and I used an XD. They are great for either hand!
  4. I looked up the start times up in the match book for my hubby (sadly, I do not get to go) so here it is: Match Activity Schedule 6:00am – 7:45am - Final stage setup (place paper targets) 6:15am – 7:45am - Match Registration at the range 7:45am – 8:00am - Shooter safety briefing 8:00am – 12:00pm - Competition 12:00pm – 1:00pm - Lunch break (replace paper targets as needed 1:30pm – Done - Competition
  5. Everything is a little "glowy" and if you fix your eyes on something white and stare than it will pulse with your heartbeat.
  6. Our club sticks to the 32 round max but that is because we have a lot of new shooters and there is a club not very far away that delights in hoser stages!
  7. It is just you, Brian...LOL. I found out why I saw white the other day, it was a prelude to a migraine. =/
  8. Everything went white.
  9. I have quit stages twice. The first time was a few years ago when I had to get on a bridge that swung underneath me while shooting a Texas Star through a portal. I just couldn't get my balance so it swung a bit and I was a newer shooter and just felt totally unsafe. So I told the RO I was done, the scorekeeper steadied the bridge and I unloaded and holstered and called it a day. The second time was at Area 3 this year. I was running up a set of stairs and fell. I twisted my wrist and shoulder to control the gun on the way down and technically could have continued the stage but I was shook and in pain. I ended up with a shoulder injury was over a month in healing. So I guess I have accepted the stages I didn't finish and hopefully won't have to quit again. By the way, I was in the Babes squad at the Michigan sectional and commend the patience and understanding of the ROs with our newer shooters. You guys were top notch! THANKS!
  10. The Eddie Eagle program is indeed still around. In fact, I just did it with my daycare today! It is too young for high school but if anyone is interested in the program, it is free to schools, daycare, etc. You just have to call them. http://www.nrahq.org/Safety/Eddie/
  11. This sounds EXACTLY like what happened to my gun at A3! And I know that my grip is a little thin. I guess a new one is in the near future!
  12. Glad you posted this! If we ever get a star in our club, we will HAVE to try this. I think the only change we will make it to have it as part of a field course to make it "legal".
  13. OWIE! And I wanna do it!
  14. Hilarious! I was thinking of etching mine but Sharpie seems easier. I have lost so many brass in the grass though... if only brass was magnetic! they have magnetic spray paint....
