  1. I'm sorry I missed the SS and REV nationals this year. I've been to the previous two and the last one in Las Vegas. For me it really is about cost. I have flown to LV and St. Louis, and I have driven to Barry. I love PASA and the staff. But this wasn't about the range or the people. It was about my budget, and a few other things like Mother's Day. So, to make assumptions about why turnout slipped this year as a result of major/minor, SS nationals, not a stand alone match, or any other reason would be without merit. Perhaps to answer the question is a survey of previous competitors, for their non-attendance. No assumptions. We have everyone's mailing address or email, why not ask. It would also be interesting to see the plotting of the home city for each participant, just to see the dispersion by the numbers. Btw, that wasn't an offer to volunteer. But PASA unfortunately is remote and limited on accommodations, restaurants, and cheap transportation outside the radius of 8 to 10 hour drive time. I almost feel as though I am being traitor to PASA for mentioning anything negative, because without them we wouldn't have the Classic Nationals. If only it wasn't so far and remote.
  2. Finally, I'm in! Will alligent let you fly with firearms? I know they charge extra for everything, Tampa airport is also offers frequent buys.

    929 Sighting

My thought is shoot your Pro, unless you won't miss the 1-1.2k, I agree that as time passes these 929 will be seen more and maybe below msrp. Though right now, retail dealers seem to be ignorant of the demand for our small community and that is probably the only time I would say its a good thing.BTW, I know we all have opinions on holsters, but my CRSpeed works for both barrel lengths, hence one size fIts all. And, after fully adjusting it correctly, I haven't had any near drops. But, I also haven't had that bazaar starting position of, standing on your head, jump up, roll left then roll right, then draw.

mine. Same guys I got my 38 super 627 from 4 or 5 years ago. They seem to be able to get the good ones.

Yes, mine pinned as well. Looks to be the standard. Also, called S&W regarding the moonclips, they confirmed it ships with one only. Tried my 38 super moons with the 9's and seems to work fine. Haven't had a chance to shoot it yet.

    929 Sighting

Yes, it stiffer, and a 1.5 inch longer, I think its looking better as time goes on. Seems to handle well too, just hard to tell in the house with everybody around. Getting funny looks from the wife. Oh well, I'll let it work itself out.

Thought I'd give a look at the hammer, looks like the older 625 one on the right.

    929 Sighting

Here it is!!!!! Got the call it was in, out the door within an hour. $1189. Trigger is absolutely horrible!!! And that's not being a snob, it's dry, gritty, and firm. I think the rep., wholesaler, or dealer had a little time with it, note the edge of the cylinder, and wear ring, and only one moonclip. Obviously not issue enough for a hesitation to buy. Next call is to Smith and Wesson, about perhaps, fulfilling the clip obligation and warranty info. Interesting firing pin.
  9. I meant to rechamber, the cylinder and cut for clips, hence no bulge issue. What I did with spare cylinder and works like it was made for the round.
  10. Here's a thought, shoot straight in Orlando has several law enforcement S&W mod 15 for $299. Have TK cut it for 9mm with some moons, around $300. Total $600. Add some speed loaders and you have and idpa gun, ICORE classic gun, USPSA gun (not the best by any stretch), a teaching gun for manual, speed loader, and moonclip gun. 38's for the speed loaders, 9mm to lower ammo cost. This is just for fun, no serious thought was put into it. Otherwise, 625 would fit with lowest initial cost and good pay back. Man revolvers are great, so many options.
  11. The only fault with this, I mean, the only one, is 9mm is now cheaper and easier to find than .22lr. Which is the only reason I vote for a 627/327.
  12. Omg, this is why I've always been hesitant to shoot IDPA. Fortunately, I have several USPSA and ICORE clubs to shoot, and no intention to bad mouth IDPA, it's just my admittedly little brain can't overcome the IDPA way of thinking.
  13. I humbly disagree. It was not written in malice but a simple fact. The more you participate in "matches" the greater the chance something will happen that will result in a DQ. I can count a number of times when the DQ was the result of a freak occurrence, not a blatant safety violation. Example: revolver barrel caught in snow fence wall and pulled out of shooter hand while shooter on the move. It happens. My RO and SO instructors made it clear it's a matter of "when" not "if". It happens and and shooters need to understand it's part of the game and not get worked up when it does. While I will go out of my way to help a new shooter I will DQ them if necessary. Again it part of the game nothing more. Lewiston-- I'm with you, absolutely no malice. I think if you are, as any serious athlete, pushing the limits of your ability to improve, a DQ will happen. Nearly all these DQ's I've seen are generally regarded as bizarre circumstances, but never the less a DQ. I think it would be an interesting question to ask of all our Grand Masters or Masters. Have you ever been DQ'd? I suspect 95 - 100% would answer yes, or if not officially called on, would acknowledge to be an offender at one point.
  14. Got it, thanks, good call on the pass, sure one will appear before to long. FYI, I really like the 5" model regardless of 327 or 627, I feel your pain though, I think in the long run the 929 is the gun if you don't have an 8 shooter and can wait a little. I load of course, but sometimes I get lazy, and there I am the night before the match loading until late when if it was a 9mm, who doesn't have some factory ammo around. Of course, unless that great deal presents a legitimate opportunity.
  15. Scam? Sounds interesting? Not to distract from topic but can you be very brief on some details, just to keep this attached to your comments and perhaps help any others. Not looking for other comments just yours.
  16. Chris, only using the other discipline as a precedent. Since it has been a very effective method for scoring turning targets for decades with little room for misunderstanding. It's a suggestion to a starting point for adaptation. Which is basically as you suggested a skidder is the same as an elongated hole, the higher score through the front of the target gets it.
  17. Bullseye shooters have been using the turning targets for nearly a century and as far as I can remember, the sliders are scored regardless of length and at the highest scoring ring touched. As Long as bullet passes front to back. And overtime shots don't apply since the target is not presented. That's the whole reason for the turning. Not sure why this is that complicated. As for a rule, why reinvent the wheel, use the bullseye rules as established by NRA/Camp Perry, since bullseye has had turning targets for such a long time.
  18. First of all TBear, that was spot on funny. Second, "looks like the fun division", is just plain spot on correct. And Third, I hope S&W doesn't under estimate the demand the 929 is apparently having, and gets them out sooner than later.
  19. Underlug, You have been here for years and I have appreciated your input, however, i don't know if I'm saddened, angered or disappointed in your last post. Claiming that competitors who shot the SS nationals had an unfair advantage, sounds like whining, but I know that's not what you intended. Look at the steel, standards, and short stages where it clearly made no difference whether they were shot day(s) before or the day of, would not have made a difference. The field stages could be figured out within the time limits so no advantage of shooting vs seeing the stages the day before. I would also challenge any belief that a national champion, or anybody who wanted to be one, would show up on a Sunday to shot the biggest match when they could see it on Saturday, even see how the SS shooters were shooting it. You don't have to shoot the stage to plan for it, if you could see it. I think on this point, your not seeing it as how a champion would take every opportunity afforded them to win, which includes getting to the venue early and seeing the course or being better prepared than anybody else. Also, I'm sorry but other sports with national level of competition, pretty well expect you will need to invest in higher level equipment. Golfers go through sets of clubs that are constantly changing, same holds true for cycling, tennis, motor sports, fishing, hunting, nearly all equipment based sports. If you want to be considered or compete at this level, you will sprend the money for the equipment, otherwise you are, and always will be a weekend player. This is partly what divides pro's from weekend duffers, no matter how good weekenders become. The next level is waiting. The competitive model is not compromised by a few, it has evolved for the many. This I am sorry for, Seeing you go to another division in spite your love for revolvers, over such a "minor" improvement that even if you feel put you at a disadvantage, can be brought back to parity though acquiring different equipment. And I feel your comments of "sorry division" and "asterisk" is just way off base. Regardless, I wish you the best in production and hope you will return.
  20. You still don't get the point. THE TIME TO DEBATE THIS IS OVER. We're shooting 6 major, 8 minor. other suggestions, and I made some also like scoring 6 shot speedloader guns major at a 120 PF, got rejected. Is there something you expect continued whining to accomplish?Tom, I realized several post ago (I think you can tell when it occurred) there is a point that "Socratic Debate" is over and that it's time for one side to move on. I believe that this topic is now becoming di-vi-sive, off-topic, unproductive and if read by those who don't shoot revolvers, a perception of those people who are never satisfied.
