  1. If the only thing that puts your pistol in to Open Class is the slide mounted optic; would removing the battery from the RDS allow the pistol to be shot in Limited or do you need to remove the whole optic from the pistol? Staccato XL with a Leupold DP Pro.
  2. I just bought 500 bullets of 200 grn 40 cal from Powder Valley.
  3. I carry a 10mm Auto daily as my duty weapon. I carry the same pistol, a G20 BTW, when hunting and hiking. I use it in competition because it is my chosen platform. The versatility of the 10MM is across shooting activities, not within a specific activity. I realize that my choice comes at a cost, e.g. availability of commercial loads, available of brass and of course cost of ammunition and components. As far as Power Factor rules, I think they should be kept simple and overly broad. The current rules allow a bunch of different calibers and allow shooters to decide what is important to themselves. For me, I like to use ammunition that closely resembles what I carry for work. BUT THAT IS WHAT I WANT! I desire to use these games, and they are games, to improve my skills. If I decide that what I want is trophies and get my picture in Frontsight (there is absolutely nothing wrong with this either), then I may want to change loads or caliber. I am glad it is my decision and not forced on me. If I could make a recommendation on changing a rule, it would be in the Heavy Metal Division. Instead of a caliber restriction, i.e., .44 caliber, I would change it to make an established power factor with a 200 grain bullet. That way 10MM, .41 Mag, .357 Mag and other calibers could compete in that division without compromising its intent.
  4. Look at a .45 case next to a 10mm -- see how much case there is between the edge of the primer and the edge of the case on the .45? You're less likely, if you have a case tilt or slip slightly in the extractor, to have the primer hit the ejector on the .45... Exactly. Since a 10mm is basically a .40 loaded longer, the 10mm is .05 inches narrower, with the same primer face. The ejector is closer to the center of the gun on the 10mm, making it closer to the round and closer to being a make shift firing pin. I don't mean to be a jerk, but has anyone ever seen this happen? I've been shooting a G20 for over ten years now and know others that have been shooting it longer then that. I've never seen or heard of a primer to ejector discharge in a G20.
  5. Thanks guys. This may end up being a second career for me, and I have about four shotguns at this point(one's a side by side) and half a dozen practice barrels. I've already purchased a forcing cone reamer and hones, have reamed two barrels and was pleased with the result.
  6. I measured the barrel at the muzzle: .841 I think this makes it too thin for Rem Choke. (.841 - .812 =.029/2 =.0145) So now I am looking at Tru-Choke Tooling. Again, thanks for the input.
  7. I did a search but didn't come up with an answer. I am doing some hobby gunsmithing. I have several old barrels to practice on. Eventually I will want to ream and tap my duty/competition Remington 1100 for choke tubes. My question is, what brand do you like?(Briley, Rem Choke, Tru Choke, etc.) Thanks.
  8. I use the VTAC on my duty M4, 1100 and hunting rifle. I bought it over the BFG because of cost, but am very happy with VTAC. Might start sending them as Christmas gifts.
  9. If I was shooting tactical, does an extended choke count as overall barrel length?
  10. A shorter barrel rifle or SG is helpful when unassing from a squad car and makes it harder for badguys to take it from you. I haven't seen these issues at a match, so, no I don't think a short barrel is an advantage in 3Gun.
  11. I've been really happy with my XS Standard Dot sights. I have found them to be quick and accurate. The customer service is outstanding.
  12. I ended up with two kids with that method of operation. Seriously, this was good reading. With the hardcast, is a gas check necessary? Talking Major PF, not magnum loads.
  13. You guys that have done this: Worth the time? Or better spent dry firing?
  14. Safariland gear, Streamlight flashlight and some Maxpedition stuff. Either shipped right away or backordered. Got all my stuff within a month of ordering.
  15. Nice shooting. Are you wearing a kilt?
  16. Perhaps I can fix a wooden block to stay in the holster where the flashlight would ride for matches. I have already invested in Limited Gear and moving to open would be like watching a F-150 at Indy. Thanks though.
  17. This is a competition question about tactical gear, and I hope within the scope of this forum. I like to compete with my duty gear. I know it will slow me down, but I am not to the point of out running my gear yet, and I like to have one program to follow if you get my drift. So I am in the new market for a duty holster. I would like to get a Safariland ALS which allows a handgun to be holstered with a attached weapon light. I have talked to other LEOs and they say that you have to have the light attatched at all times, or the pistol will not draw or reholster correctly. Is the attached weapon light LIMITED LEGAL? If it is a weight issue, could it be resolved by removing the batteries during competition?
  18. Either a seal or a member of Greenpeace, who sacrificed himself to save the poor polar bear. Thanks for the info on the detergent oil. What advantages does motor oil have over oil designated for firearms?
  19. I just had my 1100 converted to a left side safety. Remington released instruction to gunsmiths on how to make the conversion. The 870s should be similar.
  20. I have heard of "Detergent Oil" or "Detergent Motor Oil" in a few threads but can't find a description of what this is. Before I start mixing Tide and Quake Estate, can some one enlighten me? Thanks. On a side note, is anyone using Slide Glide in there Shotgun?
  21. Thanks. I will be using the gun on duty (deputy sheriff), but also want it for 3gun. I lean toward the former over the later. What is desired in a 3Gun set up over a duty set up?
