I did it backwards so maybe you can learn from me. I did a little reading, jumped right in and purchased my first handgun. A used glock 34, which could be used in Production or Limited straight out of the box. Added a holster that is not the best for the sport (has a release button that has to be pushed in when drawing), and some single mag holders. Spent a bunch of money just to get started, the whole time not knowing anything.
Then I found an EAA Witness Match 40. Man, what a gun and a difference in my scores. So now I have a Glock that rarely gets used and a bunch of cash that I can't really recover. Not that big of deal since the Glock is a good gun and still fun to shoot.
To my point.... Show up to a match and see what the other guys are using. Go out for a beverage afterwards and talk to the guys. Then make a decision. best to be informed before than out 1K and looking for the next gun.
If you don't own a gun try looking at a used gun. I am not sure if we are supposed to do this but..... Try looking at http://www.cpwsa.com/more_guns.htm ... second gun down, the Kimber .45. I bought my EAA from Chris, and he is awesome to deal with. 1st he is a GM that I am lucky enough to shoot with. 2nd would not steer you wrong. 3rd is a pleasure to do business with.
My .02 cents

Thanks, just ordered a trial pack. I will see how those work out. That might bridge the gap while I learn about reloading and start up.

looks like I was just in time to finish my reloading bench and get my Dillon then. I have 4 factory mags that came with the gun at time of purchase.
From reading this and anther forum, I guessed that the rounds were to short but was looking for confirmation of sorts. Lucky for me I only have a couple hundred left.
I ordered an extended mag from Hennig, but with this feedback it looks like I wont be able to use it until I start reloading.
For now I will load to capacity knowing I need to drop after 10 or so. With 4 mags I should be able to finish most runs no problem
By the way, anyone know of a factory round that meets the long length?
Thanks for the info.

hey all...
1st... I did a search and didnt really get my answer.
To the issue at hand... I love my witness match (.40) and would like to start using full time as my USPSA gun. But I can't rely on it getting through a full stage with out a jam or two. Ususally it happens with about 3 left in the mag.
I saw some one (on another forum), bent the top of the mag in a little to stop the round from "jumping" as he called it.
My question is.... Can I find a mag(s) that will eliminate this "jumping" issue and stop the jam? I am not looking to spend the time and effort to make the mag(s) work.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
If it matters, I am shooting WWB, that I just measured at 1.11-1.12.

Can someone tell me who the author of ABC's for reloading is? Amazon has two books by different authors. One is out of print until June.
Thanks

Bill H..
Would that be the classic v-series that you are speaking about?
I am also looking to set up my RRA for 3 gun.

Roswell, GA---- basically Atlanta.
Figured I would get a dillon 650 after I shoot for a while. I have heard the stories about the glocks not liking used brass so I wanted to stay away until I have had lots of practice with the gun.

Hey all,
Just joined the site and the sport. Bought my first handgun, a Glock 34. Hit the range tonight and was lucky enough to wander into a IPSC meeting. They welcomed me, and let me shoot the last two stages.
Now to my point, are there any suggestions on what ammo to use for practice? I can get the winchester for 18.99/100 at WalMart, the guy at the gun shop recommended Blaser Brass(13.50/50 at the shop, found on the internet for 8.99/50), and I used a Fiocchi as range ammo a couple weeks ago. All 115grs FMJ.
Of course the cheaper the box, the more I can shoot. But I still would like quality rounds.
If I missed something when I searched and this has been covered please direct me to it.

I just received a brand spanking new pair of M Frames in the mail. Cost me about $40 with shipping. I had a small problem with the piece over the ear and sent them in. Less than 2 weeks later... new pair. No questions. The best part is that this is the second time I have broken them and received new ones in retrun. I orinally bought the M Frames in 1996.
That is just plain service if you ask me. I wish more companies stood by their product.
