Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. excellent, that's what I was hoping to hear. Thanks all!
  2. Shadow Target: My standard fast split at matches seems to be a perfect Alpha followed by a low Charlie or Delta shot when moving at a brisk pace. I originally thought that I just wasn't used to the gun since I recently switched from a para but lately I've begun to notice that the slide will momentarily bump the barrel down below POA as it returns to battery and thusly throw the 2nd round off a fast pair down and out of the A zone. So, I've been thinking that adjusting the spring weight may help reduce the barrel dip. Thoughts? If feasable, would stronger or weaker spring work? 2nd thought, heavier/lighter bullet. I'm currently loading Precision Delta 124JHP's at 134 PF maybe I'm crazy? Ryan

    So, I'm an idiot

If you go para, don't forget to go through the frame with files/stones: the trigger raceway was rough and needing polishing, the mag release raceway had some sharp corners and 'extra' material that needed removing, the magwell needed blending with my DP magwell, and I had to recut the slide serrations as the newer factory ones are garbage- my hand kept slipping and i ended up cutting my palm on the rear sight blade more often than not. All in all, i really like my para.... but it isnt an STI

    So, I'm an idiot

I thought about disabling the GS entirely but ultimately felt like keeping it. I felt more compelled to fix it than to bypass it. That, and I occasionally get the urge to pop off the mag well for IDPA... Ryan

    So, I'm an idiot

So, I've been shooting my P16-40 lim and upgrading it over the past few years. I never liked the trigger so I put in a matched C&S kit. That didn't do what I expected so I put in a series 80 reduction kit. Still wasn't impressed so I pulled out the series 80 parts and put in a shim. Still wasn't happy but was dealing with it. Then I started experiencing malf's, the trigger was locking up during matches occasionally. I blamed the new hammer/sear/disconnector but could never reproduce the problem via dryfire or in practice, only during matches. Fast-forward to last week's classifier... stage 2 of 4 and my para turned into a single shot, manually racking the slide to get the trigger to reset for every shot. I then went to the safe table and tore it down to try and figure it out. After scratching my head for awhile, It finally dawned on me that the trigger was fine and that the grip safety was the issue! The operational safety was barely disengaging when completely depressed. After a band*aid over the grip safety, helped with a half dozen pasters, the last couple stages went functionally perfect. So, tonight I finally took a file to that damned grip safety and went to town. Now, the GS is still operational but disengages with only slight depression. Instead of the trigger bow dragging on the GS, the trigger is free to glide free!!! Boy, what a difference! Now I have the trigger pull I've been after all this time. It never occurred to me that the GS could have been the issue all along... Ryan
  6. That combat II would solve all of the weight issues for IDPA SSP!
  7. Bullets in the mag are making contact with the slide lock and prematurely activating the holdopen. You will need to remove material from the slide stop until the bullets have room to slide past as they rise from the mag. Dont go too far or the follower will not be able to activate the hold open when its supposed to. Its easy to see any interfearance with the slide off and then inserting a loaded mag. Changing bullet profiles will also work.
  8. For the budget minded limited shooter, para is always an option. It's not hard to find one tuned and set up for limited here in the marketplace. My para has served me well Ryan
  9. If the case isn't sliding up under the extractor you may need only to adjust your OAL, especially if you already beveled the underside of the extractor. Are you using long loads? If not, that may help. Ryan
  10. I'm stubborn and want a slightly longer barrel and full length grip with the concealability of the vip grip ; )
  11. It would require drilling a new hole for the MSH pin and reshaping but I don't know if the 2011 has a standard MSH. I guess that's the main question. Once you carry bobtailed you wont go back!
  12. So, like the title says, is it possible to bobtail a 2011? I'm moving back to florida and would like to upgrade my carry piece. I love my bobtailed dan wesson commander but would like lighter weight so I was thinking about the new S&W scandium frame bobtails. But then I was thinking about higher capacity and I always loved the STI VIP but wanted a 4.25" barrel so that kinda led me to the tactical in 45. But concealing the full length grip can be a pain so I was thinking of bobtailing an STI tactical in 45. This would be my first 2011 and I am unsure if they have a standard MSH like my para and just an over-sized retaining pin, or if there was some other proprietary MSH design. Thoughts?
  13. Great sites for a tiny gun, good trigger, and it's a 1911. What's not to like. Btw, old colt mustang mags work just fine since the 238 is basically a clone with a new slide profile. It's a perfect gun to tote around when my fullsize 1911 becomes cumbersome (ie. excersizing) Ryan
  14. I got mine at ace, perhaps there is another one to try near you.
  15. Go to the local hardware store and get yourself a standard metric M3 or M5 screw for overtravel. The round head/button head works great and doesn't dig into the frame. Henning also sells the screws, he may list the exact pitch/size on his website but I don't remember off hand. Henningshootsguns.com I think is his site. Cheers, Ryan
