How hard was it to remove the mag tube?
mark
-
Not a direct answer as I have not compared the 2 side by side, but another option is the 22" with a XXL nordic end cap, brings capacity to 9 +1, and protects muzzle as mag tube now is longer than barrel.
You are most fortunate if you can get either!

Bugged me too, Bob. Used a feeler gauge set to measure gap between housing and receiver, cut small tabs 1 thousandth thinner and jb welded to trigger housing, one at front and back, both on same side. Play is gone. I posted a picture in one of the jm930 threads. My contribution to red neck gunsmithing.

Must have ordered the last one SWEDGE, as brownell's is out of nordic followers. No biggie as my 930 is behaving after I polished the opening in the mag tube.

not recently, maybe 8 months ago a very good friend sent in a 14.5" barrel for removal and replacement of "permanently" attached muzzle device. they did an excellent job and my friend is picky.

Nick,
How can you tell that lengthening the forcing cone lowered the pressure, and is there a benefit in doing this in a JM930 that does not have issues similar to yours?
Thanks,

Brownell's does special orders for items they don't stock, as long as they stock something from a given manufacturer. They do that for dealer accounts, so expect they would for regular customers as well.

Have you tried lubricating the barrel extension first? You can also polish the extension with a strip of emory cloth, shoe shine fashion, to slightly reduce outside diameter.

I've had good luck with the VLTOR A5 system of receiver extension, buffer and spring. It is very close to a rifle length system for use with collapsible stocks. Used to experiment with different weights of buffers, spring strengths etc.
Done. Soft shooting and reliable function.

Spoke with someone at Nordic and the word is it will work with latest 930, gen 3. No idea of when gen 3 hit the market.
Other than additional length, what is advantage of Nordic?
Thanks,

Don't think that's typical. I would try to find the reason as mine runs low velocity shells fine. Is it broken in? All parts especially gas piston moving smoothly?

I built up a plain mega lower, as did a friend, no issues at all.

Mark, curious as to your thoughts about Frog Lube. I like the idea that it's non toxic and it seems to clean up easily without allowing carbon to stick too badly to the bolt tail. Is it lacking in pure lubrication or does it have other issues compared to your more favored choices?
Thanks,

My understanding is that mil spec fcg parts are surface hardened only, so any serious polishing or "gunsmithing" will break through the case hardening and parts will wear much faster than if no work was done. Best to replace all three parts with either mil spec or a match system of your choice.

I like my trulock chokes. Can order direct.

One downside I can see is if the device is left in the firearm after the dryfire session, to save time till the next session. Well, with no external sign the device is in, gun goes to range or worse, match, or much worse, loaded for home defense...
I have one and its pretty neat but rarely use it for the last reason.

The compression force of 12" of stock spring vs a Nordic spring is much different, due to much thinner wire used in stock spring. I would expect the stock spring should work with XL or even XXl caps as Mossberg uses the same spring in both JM versions, according to the tech I spoke with. Would not cut the original as it feels super soft compared to aftermarkets named above, so loading is easy, and a failure to feed may result. Not sure what is gained by going with the aftermarkets unless the original takes a set. Am open to be educated if I am missing something.

in the quest for "better than good" I went with Nordic, trimmed to 9" beyond end of tube, and ran into issue of shell not being released with a full mag tube. Replaced with original spring, which is easier to load with, and issue went away. Will stay with original spring until it creates a problem. FWIW, am running a XXL cap for a 9+1 with 22" pipe.

I agree its time for mossberg to.diagnose and fix.

What do i do to get it to run on lite loads? mine runs great on heavy stuff
Have you tried light loads?
If you have and it's not running well, I would tear it down and really clean the gas system and bolt, then lube the bolt well. Mine runs target loads with no issues.

Impact weapons components has a really small lightweight qd sling attachment device, smaller and lighter than the Samson. Believe they make a version to work with most hand guards on the market. My rainier eve came with the Samson device and I like the iwc device more, but either one would suit your needs.

Deleted post as photo was too small to be useful.

Nordic makes extra long mag tube caps, one is 3/4" and the other 1.5" longer than standard cap. Check their site. I ordered the XXL one, even though some have posted that the XL allowed an extra round in the tube.
You need to make sure the treads are compatible, unless you already have a Nordic extended mag tube.

Factory spring should be gtg right?
Added the XXL cap and factory spring feels ok as fa as tension. Have not fired it with longer cap but would be surprised if it doesn't work. Factory spring will be backup for cut down nordic spring.

Thought I'd throw out my effort at slimming the rear end of handguard. Not sure if its useful to have done this since I have no plan (nor money) to go to "twin" loading style, but it sure looks better! Welded lifter courtesy of CRum.
