I utilize the U-Die on all semi-automatic pistol cartridge's they are available for. I have uncovered it aids in feed reliability and mitigates bullet set back. Especially with once fired range pick up brass. I have been using it for 45 ACP, shooting single stack over the last year, and reliability has improved significantly. No hard data, but no adjustment on the extractor, etc. has been necessary over the last 5000 rounds or so of 45 ACP. I have also noticed more consistent bullet seating depth and minimal set back after feeding into the chamber. I also use the Lee factory crimp die. Primary been shooting 230 grain FMJ over the last two years. Not for everybody, but it works for me.

I wet tumble, after the primers are removed. I use a food dehydrator to drive out all moisture. It has all worked to date. I will go look at the lot numbers.

Thank you for your responses. I looked at the failed primers as compared to the same primers that were fired and there was a major difference in look. So far, I looked at the failed primers after pulling the bullets. It appears, as compared to new ones, there was minimal if any primer compound. I have used Winchester primers for years also, and never had an issue. I asked around during our last match last Friday, and one person indicated he had a major issue year or so ago. Another person indicated intermittent this current year and it is the only large pistol primers he has (just like myself) and he bought the primers at the same time as myself from the same source. I had also loaded some of these in 44 special loads and used in my revolvers. Had an issue with them also. I checked the firing pin length on both of my 45ACP 1911's, and the firing pin is .005" shorter than specification. But never had an issue until this latest batch. Again thanks for responding.

Last May (2020), I picked up 5000 Winchester large pistol primers. Loaded a 1000 cartridges for my single stack. Over the last 4 matches or so, I have been having a 4% to 5% failure to ignite. The primers all appear to be properly seated. The indentation in the primer also is the same as the fired brass. I have been running a 22 pound main spring. I tried shooting the again (single round at a time) and they would not fire on all of them. My question, has anyone else seen this issue in the past with Winchester primers? thanks

147 round nose blue bullet: 1.125 OAL. CCI primer. 3.6 WST. Temperature: 85 F. PF 134. SD 11.4 135 cone point blue bullet: 1.135 OAL. CCU primer. 3.9 WST. Temperature: 85 f. PF 134 SD 17.1 Both out of an M&P Pro with an Apex barrel. Just chrono graphed this past weekend.

The shooter is DQ'ed.

I have been the RO on many PCC shooters in my area and at my club. My only issue with PCC is that some of them are on the quiet side. Knowing which one sometimes is not easy to identify. Also, trying to be in the correct position for the last shot is not always in the competitors interest or the RO's ability depending upon stage layout and how it is engaged by the competitor (same stage engaged in different approaches). I do my best and if a re shoot happens (only a few times) then it happens. We all have to figure out the best way to approach it to give the competitor his earned score and maintain the safety and rules of the stage. I always mention to my PCC shooting friends to have a louder gun.

What are the dimensions for 45 ACP?

To solve the problem, I installed the latest sear block with the larger sear spring. Removed the original sear, and put in the apex sear. I never had the apex springs in the fire control portion. Checked it with the old striker and the new striker and everything is working reliably and safely. Have tested it with about 250 rounds through the set up and it is working as expected. I highly suspect that the new striker was different compared to the older striker, combined with the old sear block, original sear. Note: I checked my records for the gun, and only the apex firing pin block, everything else was from S&W. Thanks for the replies.

It is on my list to measure the differences in the striker legs, but since I put a factory part in basically a factory gun with the factory sear, I did not measure the strikers for differences in leg length's. But I will as I have not pulled it apart since this weekend, but I will do so. Thanks again for the insight.

First Generation S&W Pro, (won at a match in 2010). Has about 14,000 rounds though it. Slide stop lever broke so it was replaced, so I decided to change out the striker with a new one. It has the Apex competition kit in it, but the original sear (more crisp trigger pull). Went to test at the range, the gun would fire one shot, dead trigger. Pull the slide back to engage the striker, one shot, then a dead trigger. Again pull the slide back to engage the striker with the sear, pull the trigger and six rounds fired before I could release the trigger then it stopped. Hoping to gain some wisdom of what is going on. Thanks

Only issue I have incurred, was on a stage that the PCC shooter started out in hammock then ran to the front of the stage for gun retrieval with a decision to engage targets there or back up. Some would engage at the front, and some would haul ass back and take the longer shots. As an slightly older RO, moving backwards sooner helps the shooter. Typically was never a problem, until a very quiet PCC bull pup came up, and after the first shot attempt( up front) while I in the rear about 5 feet, the firearm had a jam that the competitor had to give up on. The timer had 0 for the time, even after a couple of shots. Re-Shoot. My issue is not to interfere with the competitor, but on a stage similar to what I described it can be an issue as trying to predict when the competitor is going to move and how fast can be a determent. Just another item to pay attention to with PCC "quietness".

Another item to check is the fit of the cartridge in the chamber. After I fit the barrel, the overall length with the bullets being used needed to be shortened. Even after that, when it was hot, it would still hang up closed when you needed to remove the round from the gun. I ended up shortening up my ammo to 1.110 inches on everything. I believe the chamber might be a wee bit short, so I probably need to get a reamer to touch it up.

I indicated earlier I am in the 100% crowd, but thinking through the many, many Tuesday-Friday night LV 1 matches I have RO'ed and particpated, about the only item not 100% is popper calibration. That is the one item that we do not calibrate and if there is obvious error with the popper we call REF and have them re shoot, which by the way happens rarely. Otherwise, it is 100% following the rules.

That is why on stages which scoring is going to conducted ahead of time, more RO's are needed than the one on the timer and the scorekeeper is necessary to help manage the squad for these type of stages. Sometimes at our local matches we get to much in a hurry and we have to curtail the enthusiasm to get down range for resetting the stage. It is either we have the too many people wanting to get the stage reset and not enough that you have to ask people to partake. Most experienced RO's I know and have worked with have had unexpected items occur, causing you to be in the wrong position. That is why experience is necessary on the more complicated stages with more than the RO on the timer and the RO on the scoring.

Hi Zack, I believe edge hits count. The purpose is to just hit the plate. If there is a challenged call, the RO can call the Range Master and a final decision made.

Installed Taran Tactical Base pads on S&W 17 round magazine so I can get 23 rounds in it. I must be doing something wrong, as I can only get 18 rounds in the magazine. Looked at photo's, read installation instructions on web site, have the spring in the correct orientation. Need any assistance that can be provided Thanks.
