  1. You can cut them down yourself with a power case trimmer. I use an RCBS model. I can't speak to ,38 super, I've never had one. There are a lot of threads on the pros/cons of long and short colt vs. special brass. A lot of it comes down to personal taste and how comfortable you are reloading short colt. There isn't a lot of published data for that cartridge, there are some threads on here though with good recipes. I personally like short colt for no other reason than I can use 9mm dies. I use a ,38/.357 sizing die, because it's a straight wall case, and the rest are 9mm dies. And I use 9mm load data as well. That's just me, please do some thread searching. Just type in "short colt" and you'll find lots of good info. Then make some brass and try a few loads. You can get some Lee long colt dies pretty cheap if you want to try those as well. You might find a load your gun really likes, then just stick with it. Kevin
  2. I've never had an issue with components of any kind, but certain kinds of ammo run afoul of some city ordinance's. I.E. shotgun slugs, .50 cal ammo of any kind, tracers. Personally it only affects me with shotgun slugs, I have to have them shipped to a buddy in another city. Midway generally seems to be pretty up restrictions. Maybe a phone call would help. Kevin
  3. Thanks to everybody. Definitely counting my blessings not my tragedies. Everybody walked away, even the guy who hit me. It's all good.
  4. Walked away without a scratch. I'm in the slow on the freeway doing 65. A guy in the fast lane thinks he can make the exit he just noticed he missed.
  5. Couldn't the green booster plate be an optional bonus target, with bonus being awarded only if it's engaged first. Would let those who want to use it, those who don't won't.
  6. Wife and I are in, you're doing a good thing Cliff! Kevin and Michelle
  7. For me the 47D's and the ETM's are night and day in ease of seating. I ran the 47D's with extended base pads until I tried some ETM's. Never going back. I've never tried the Cobra's, can't help there. This is in a old Colt Govt. MkIV 80 series. Maybe I missed it in one of your earlier posts but have you tried ETM's? If not I shoot some of the matches in Piru, let me know if you're ever up that way I'll loan you a few to try. Kevin
  8. Those Lyman's are Foster style slugs. They're saboted because they sit inside the plastic wad. Look at the profile of the slug, it looks like a dart. The front is heavy and the back skirt is hollow so the center of gravity keeps it going reasonably straight. Just like an airgun pellet. Same shape. You would get better stability and accuracy out of a rifled barrel, but we all use smooth bores in our games. So we take what we can for those few slug targets we have to engage. I've been very pleased with the accuracy of this slug out of my shotguns. I shoot mine out of a LM choke and also a cylinder barrel, both do very well. If your primary concern is accuracy and you haven't found something you like this avenue might be worth a try. Otherwise keep trying different brands till you find one you like and buy a bunch of it. My big concern was availability and it's solved that for me. Good luck
  9. For me it wasn't just accuracy but reliable availability. I found this guy: http://www.gardnerscache.com/12ga_slug_reload_kit_100pc_.html His kit comes with reload data and once fired hulls. I'm using a roll crimper from BPI to load mine and it doesn't work on the once fired hulls so I ended buying primed new hulls, wads, and over cards, and just a box of slugs from Gardner. I cut the hull down to the correct length, had meter some powder in, wad, slug, over card, then crimp with a drill. Actually works really well and doesn't take long at all. It took a little testing to find a load my shotgun liked, but now I can make rounds whenever I need too and I didn't have to buy another press or start casting lead. Here's the roll crimper I use. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/730142/bpi-roll-crimper-12-gauge
  10. Don't care about the outcome. Ever.
  11. http://news.cnet.com/8301-27083_3-57380668-247/braille-texting-app-could-have-broader-appeal/ Might be the texting wave of the future here. Certainly looks interesting.
  12. Got it by clicking on the view last post arrow for this thread http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=153097&pid=1716664&st=0entry1716664 Latest Firefox browser. Same message as the other screen shots. I clicked the refresh link that's provided in the error message and it went to the correct page. Hope it helps Kevin
  13. I can't comment on the Edge/Axis, but I do have two Stevens 200's. One long action and one short. I'm VERY happy with them. They are a Savage rifle with a lower quality finish and a lower quality stock. Also they don't have the accutrigger. The good stuff is they accept any stock made for a Savage 10/110, any after market part for the Savage's actually, and they share the same barrel thread. You can purchase small shank Savage barrels and swap them onto your Stevens. I love them. Great rifle for the money. Kevin
  14. Its about as long as a 9mm case. The short colt is just a cut down special case. The case head is the same, if a moon clip fits one it fits the other. If they are the same brand of case that is. I've cut down some Starline special brass just to do some load development. I haven't tried it enough though to comment on the benefits of reloading during a stage. I'm pretty sure there are several threads on the topic. Kevin
  15. Glad it worked out. You did it right, started low and worked up with a chrono. Don't try that load in another gun without checking a lower charge weight first though
  16. Primer's still looking ok? No flattening or flowing of the primer metal?
  17. Clark Custom Guns would be my recommendation. That's Jerry Miculek's inlaws. Carmoney here on the forum would have been my first suggestion but I believe he's retired from gunsmithing.
  18. WOW! I just discovered this. THANK YOU!!!! Really cool app. Kevin
  19. Welcome to the forum! Kevin
  20. Just so long as you get all the bell out of the case. That's the important part, maybe a thousandth or two of crimp at most. If you can run your finger along side the mouth of the case and can't feel any lip you're doing ok. You'll probably see a shiny ring just around the case mouth where the crimp die pressed the bell out of the case. That's enough right there. Full contact from the taper crimp die is gonna do it. It's much more important to avoid any over crimping, as he noted above. All that being said .470-.471 is right about where you should be. So sounds like that's not a problem for you. Kevin
  21. That's a really good point. Just remove the bell. Good call. Kevin
  22. This is good advice on OAL in a .45. It really isn't any more complicated than that. And I've been chrono'ed at 187pf with Clays, in another gun of mine it does 176pf. Same load, out of the same run on the press. The 187pf is in a 5" barreled 625 and the 176pf is in a 5" barreled 1911. Go figure. There's definitely differences in guns. Go up a little and see what you get. I stop if I increase the charge and there's no corresponding increase in muzzle velocity. To me that's getting near a bad place. But stop micro analyzing the OAL, that's not the source of your issue. IMHO. Kevin
  23. I'd like 1 pinned red f/0 .100x.300 If you have it in stock I'll paypal immediately Thanks! Kevin
