  1. OK I need to pick up a few .40 mags and can get the STI mags used from a few fellow shooters. What are these worth used? I see they are $60 new and in stock on a few websites. What are the main differences between the STI and SV mags? How can I tell them apart? I have an SV in .40 with two mags that I picked up used but but I'm told the two mags I have are STI. Are the SV mags really worth the extra $40-60. I apologize if this is in the wrong area. Thanks Tim
  2. Anyone have a link on this? I don't want to ruin my grip. Or who can I send mine to that has a decent turn around time? I wanted to order a factory SV scotch grip but they don't make them anymore. Thanks
  3. Looking for some customizing ideas for mine.

    My new SV

Looks like there were only about 40 guns between the two. Thats if the serial #'s run in order. I called SV the other day to check on factory stipple grips and all the sell anymore in stainless steel or steal grips. For $600.00 I will stick with mine or get an STI stipple grip (if they still sell them). Any one have a nice used stipple grip they want to sell me?

    My new SV

Forgot my stupid mag pouches and had to pull from my pockets!

    My new SV

No, I got it from my smith who builds race guns among others. I paid $1,600.00 but he is a friend so i think it would be about $1,800.00 on the shelf. Looks like the gun should have a book of around $2,000.00 or so. He currently has a few open guns and maybe one other limited gun a STI trubore for like $1,500.00 or something. I think he has built a few guns for others on this forum like Nick and Sherwin but can't remember there last name. Shot the gun today in our first match and loved it, pics to come soon.

    My new SV

Yes I post there and sold my usp on that site to help fund this gun. I do a little uspsa shooting with my gunsmith and friend Rick Johnson (Redline Custom) at a range near Corson SD, can't remember the name. I have only been to a handful of matches but plan to become a regular. There are a few top shooters there and are as fun to watch as the actual shooting.

    My new SV

Just got it yesterday (new to me anyway) can't wait to try it Sunday for our first match of the year. Now to decide what I want to do to it. Hard crome, maybe some slide serrations?
  9. So SV mags are the way to go? Know if I can just find a couple nice used mags. I'm surprised there hard to find not being a "standard" factory gun and all. Maybe I can talk my smith into an extra mag with the gun.
  10. I'm getting a used SV next week and need a few mags. What brand is recommended? Are used ones hard to find? I have shot a little USPSA the last two years and will be using this gun for that and general target shooting. And yes I will post pics after I get it. And just a side not I have a very limited budget so I can't afford to just go out and buy three new $100 mags at least not at this time. Thanks
  11. He builds most of Sherwyn's guns and he places high in most of the matches in the upper Midwest and is an STI winner in the contingency program. I believe Sherwyn is a member on this forum but I am unsure of his screen name. Rick is having someone work on his new website and hopefully it will be up soon. I will post a link as soon as it is. 12. I'm new as well and and brought my USP 9 to my first match and traded it for a 1911 for my second match. Shoot what you shoot good with and can afford. I'm on my third gun and next Sunday will only be my third match! Don't take anything I say as advise as I am new as well. Welcome!
  13. Also picked this up from my smith the other day in case I feel like shooting single stack.
  14. Well our local USPSA shooting starts next Sunday and I still have not found a holster. Looks like one of the guys has a rig I can barrow till I find one. I'm thinking I'll wait till I come across a used guba ribas or limcat.
  15. Well almost anyway, it's not quit payed off. The picture does not do it justice.
  16. I'm going to a gun show tomorrow and should be able to find something. My smith that has a booth at the show says he see's ghost holsters selling for around $75.
  17. Well the guns getting a rehaul. The short barrel is the original and the long barrel is from a .38 I traded both barrels to my smith toward a 6" round blank can't remember the name. He will be cutting down to a cooler shape with flat sides and be re bluing the gun and smoothing the trigger just a little. I will post pics when it's done in a month or two. I can hardly wait, and yes he is a very good smith that is always swamped. He says it will be a bullseye gun when it's done. I will be selling the pearl grips as soon as I have 25 posts or I will put them on ebay.
  18. I have heard about the problems with the forcing cone but it seems to be fine. I am going to my gun smiths tomorrow to have him check it out to be safe. I didn't get a chance to shoot it today but I will be sure to tomorrow.
  19. So is it safe to shoot heavy .357 loads? Some say yes while others say no. I plan on using .38 for the range and .357 hunting loads for Deer. I can't wait to bring it to the range tomorrow to see what it will do.
  20. I picked this up Wednesday @ my local gun shop. I paid $300 that i think is fair with both barrels and the extra set of grips. It seems to be in good shape with almost no wear on the 8" barrel or the small grips. The only strange thing is the long barrel is for a model 10 I believe in .38 but my smith says it's safe for the .357 that the gun is chambered for.
  21. Man I just missed a Limcat on ebay for $65.
  22. Looks like it's between the Limcat and the ghost the ghost is looking pretty good @ $125 + shipping.
  23. This is a great site. And to think I used to hang out @ AR-15.com
