  1. Call C-More. That's were I got mine. It's not listed on the website but you can order one directly.
  2. Get a 4 inch 617. I've been seeing a lot of them on-line lately for around 800. Check RimfireCentral.com classified.
  3. What an innovative idea. Good luck with it.
  4. When I was still shooting ICORE and USPSA with my 627s and 929s my reloads averaged 1.5 seconds. I use the strong hand method. You really need to eject the spent moon and throw your new moon into the revolver. I'm sure the newer guys are much faster than that. In reality, anything under 2 seconds is good.
  5. Like Scrouger, I'm a Steel Challenge shooter now. I see no point in checking scores during a match. I can tell when I sign the tablet weather it was a good run or not and I only want to know my final tally to see if I've been upgraded in Classification. Now years ago when I shot Archery things were different. I check scores after every game against the better shooters. I was a showoff and wanted the attention so if I was behind I really worked the magic to improve. I'm glad my ego has improved.
  6. I like your idea of running a 625 with Major loads. Nothing loads faster than that gun, proven by the man himself. For minor in ICORE a 4 inch will work great. It's a good length and won't rob you of sight radius. The 3 is a little short and will punish you with magnum loads. Practicing for Classic, go ahead and use the Comp IIIs in USPSA. You should be able to get your reloads down to under 2 seconds with lots of practice and you will be shooting againsts yourself so do as good as you can. I shot for years being the only revo shooter and did quite well against the bottom feeders. Steel Challenge is all I shoot these days and I still shoot with a revolver although it's a 617. Do to lots of reasons I can't shoot center fires anymore but still have lots of fun. An 8 shot will benefit you. Just remember to count and never shoot more than 8. Go for the reload if you must and consider it practice. A two second reload beats a 3 second penalty for a miss.
  7. When I was loading for my 9 mm I would use the same bullets as you and simply remove the bell. It took no crimp to hold the .358 rounds in the case and I had no slippage of the last round do to recoil. What you have should be perfect.
  8. I enjoy shooting withe my friends and always try to sign up with them. My squad is the mentor squad at our club. We always get a new shooter or two to join us. Nice way to meet new people.
  9. I started late to the game. I was an archer and pretty good at it. My coach hated guns, always called them greasy oily things and other than hunting I never saw a pistol until I was 24. I had to give up archery and in a fortuitous moment a guy came into my office and started talking about a little club that shot IPSC in Mesa where we shot on the police range. It was fun and I bought my first revolver. This was back in the 70s. Two matches later I had to have a 1911 and bought one from one of the guys. I was hooked. Eventually it became USPSA and we had organized shooting with rules and everything. It's been 50 years and a pleasant ride. I can't shoot the action type matches anymore do to injuries but I now shoot Steel Challenge twice a month. Not as good as I once was but I enjoy it so much. I'm now shooting SC with my 617 and my times are actually better than my times with my Black Mamba.
  10. Here's how I carry my empties. It's from RevolverSupply.com and I made the belt loop from some scrap leather. It's easy to dump my cylinder after a run and after I stage I take out my 5 loaders to reload. After the match I empty the pouch at home and separate loaded from spent cases.
  11. Looks like a lot of fun stages and you did very well. Too bad they were all 8 shot arrays. It would be good to see a 9 or 10 shot so that the 8 and 6 shooters both have to do a standing reload. Impressive reloads. Shame you had that squirrel in the trigger going click, click, click.
  12. You should just remove the belling and that should hold your bullet in. If not get a bigger diameter bullet.
  13. I used my regular .38 loads and 9 mm when I switched to a 929. Lighter loads didn't seem to help me that much and I didn't want to change my press that often. When I shot my 625 I did have special loads of 3 grains of Bullseye with a 230 RLN. They were so slow we could watch them going to the target. I've run my fastest time with the 625 at 119 seconds. Now I'm just old enough to remember the good times
  14. I was having trouble with my empties sticking in the cylinder after a few runs so I decided to ream the chambers with a .22 finishing reamer to see if it would help. It sure did. Today I fired 300 rounds and the empties just dropped free of the cylinder each time I went for a reload. Using my DS-10 speed loaders I was able to fire the 300 rounds in no time. I used Speedbeezs loading blocks and a Pelican box. Not only did I ream the chambers I also did a little trigger work. When I got the gun the DA pull was over 10 pounds. I like it a little smoother and lower than that so I polished the rebound slide and installed an 11 pound rebound spring. That's all I did and the trigger pull went down to 8 pounds average on my Lyman Digital Scale. The trigger is real smooth but I'm waiting for a RevUp Hammer and I expect the DA will be much smoother.
  15. I haven't seen a sale but the price of the DS-10s at Revolver Supply Co. just went up from $25 to $27 a piece. Not bad. It's good to have at least 6 on your belt so that you can run an entire stage and have an extra in case you need to reload. DS-10s are the best and are cheaper than the SpeedBee loaders by about $10 each. They hold the bullets more solidly and I find them easier to get into the cylinders of my 617.
  16. I never had to polish the chambers of my 929. When I bought it there were problems running Starline brass. It would stick real badly. I switched to Winchester Ammo and bought 1000 rounds. Kept reloading them and never had a case stick. I chamfered my own cylinder. I've had the tool for about 20 years and doing the 929 was an easy task. I agree that it should have been done at the factory but every time a small detail is added to the manufacturing the price goes up.
  17. I use a dump bag that I got from Revolver Supply Company for emptying my gun between runs. I just throw my spent speed loaders in the bag after reloading. I can carry all my empties and unspent cartridges until the end of the match. When I get home I simply dump the pouch and separate live from fired rounds.
  18. I really like shooting my 617 for Steel Challenge and actually shoot it better than my auto. Just something about revolvers that I enjoy. I use an Apex Mass Drive Hammer and find that it allows me to shoot a wider variety of ammo reliably. Trigger pull is very smooth and I can go as low as 7 pounds with 100 % ignition.
  19. Yes, the hanger attaches to the back. Still working on it's design and angle so I didn't include a pic of the back.
  20. I seem to change holsters as often as I change pants. I've got a box full of them now but more will come. This was an attempt to copy an Ernie Hill Fastrack Holster. Ernie is one of the best holster makers and before everyone went to plastic he dominated the holster business for USPAS and Bianchi shooting. I have a 5 inch holster from him but my 4 inch will not fit it so out came the leather. I may put a tension screw or two on it but for now it's holding onto the gun even after a body flip.
  21. I remember the old days well, and the shooting sports have really changed, becoming more of a track meet that a shooting event. Some of us old guys simply can't maneuver the way the young crowd can. I admire those that are still shooting. Why not recognize them for their efforts? Times change and we need to change with them.
  22. All in all, you did well. You started shooting much faster after stage 4 which is a good thing. Shot to shot splits were much better. Try to take your shots while moving instead of moving to the target and stopping. Reloads look o.k. but we can always improve them. Practice, practice, practice. You had a great split on the hidden target. You should get to the point where you can shoot stationary targets that fast with confidence. Practice your transitions on the plate rack. You can pick up a little time there as well. Just my opinion, for what it's worth from an old washed up shooter.
  23. Amazon.com : WALKER’S Silencer Wireless NRR25dB Electronic Sound Suppression Hearing Protection Earbuds for Shooting, Hunting, Range : Sports & Outdoors I use these. They work real well and you can wear any hat. They come with 2 sets of batteries and they are little button batteries #10 that are inexpensive.
  24. I use standard Ruger mags. Picture shows the flat trigger but I now shoot the Volquartsen one. I didn't like the feel of the flat trigger
  25. I really like my Black Mamba with a C-More and 12 MOA dot.
