Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I got my first DQ this Sunday. I've got maybe 15 matches under my belt and have not been able to participate in matches as regularly as I'd like, fortunately my schedule has freed up and this was my third match in as many weeks. I'm shooting production (still unclassified) with a CZ-85. I posted the stage layout PDF below. The stage calls for engaging half the targets freestyle, mandatory reload, the other half strong hand only. A second string repeats with the first half freestyle, a reload, and the other half weak hand only. I missed the mandatory reload on the first string. I caught myself as I transitioned to strong hand but finished the first string with a procedural penalty. Not ideal, but so be it. The DQ came with the second stage when I transitioned to my weak hand. I put my rounds on the first half of the targets, reloaded like I was supposed to and transitioned the gun to my weak hand. BOOM! - the trigger was engaged and the gun discharged where it was pointed - safely downrange and at the berm, resulting in an (entirely reasonable) DQ. I spent a good half hour after the match in dry fire practice, transitioning from strong hand to weak hand. I think what happened was my off hand index finger wasn't perfectly flat on the transition and on taking hold of the weapon, entered the trigger guard and engaged the trigger. Lessons learned If I'm not used to a particular transition go slow, even if it seems simple. I hadn't practiced operating my gun in my off hand enough, or in transitioning from two hand to off hand. If you have the stage description before hand read them. I had a week to go through the stage descriptions and gave them only a cursory look through. Had I read so in more detail I MIGHT have seen the transition that I didn't know about and could have taken time to rehearse the transition in dry fire and maybe have avoided the DQ. Take the opportunity to recenter. I could have just taken a minute to re-center myself after getting the procedural, I doubt anyone would have held it against me. The opportunity was there, I just didn't take it. Maybe the DQ would have been avoided, maybe not. Stick around and help out even if you get DQed. You can dump your gear in the car, help with scoring and still watch the other competitors. People appreciate it, and you budgeted the time to be at the whole match anyway. Easter Sunday Stage 3.pdf
  2. Let us know how it goes. Can you tell is who the dealer is?
  3. Yeah. Next purchase is a 686 or 686 pro. I would recommend the 617 as a first gun if it weren't quite so expensive. I don't think anyone else makes a quality double action .22 really that's much cheaper than the 617.
  4. I don't see how you could; on mine the front sight is cast as part of the frame. You might be able to jury rig something, but I wouldn't try it on a functional slide.
  5. Yeah that's one of the big advantages of the KZ75; KWA has a US based office so in theory parts and support should be readily available. Haven't had to test that though, thankfuly.
  6. A friend of mine has a set of rock rings that I've worked out on a few times and they seem like they do pretty well for my grip strength. A lot of the grip strength training for rock climbing looks like it'd be what you're looking for. Functional Hand Strength has what looks to be a pretty good write up on the matter. If you have a gym with a climbing wall that would probably work too.
  7. For what it's worth the odorant that Coleman uses in their propane canisters is kind of sticky; I don't know how else to describe it. Even after completely emptying the gun and the magazines the odor still clings to the gun. Maybe I just have a sensitive nose?
  8. I like the electrical cover plates. It never occurred to me to look for something like that. How thick is the metal?
  9. I did a little write up on my KZ-75. I shoot a CZ85 so there are some differences. It does fit in my Blade-Tech holster but I have to tighten it just a bit. Handles pretty much the same, the trigger is even similar now that I've swapped out some springs. http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=164199 Mine appears to shoot high using 25g BBs. It says on the box that it's designed for 25g or heaver so that's what I bought. I haven't put enough through it yet since I'm still getting settled in from being overseas for two years/moving again into a new city and starting full time work. I'd kind of like to see a writeup on the Tanfoglio airsoft. It looks neat, but I've got enough sunk into the KZ75 already and I need to get things like belts, mag carriers and so forth before I get another airsoft gun.
  10. I've looked at the schematics and they definitely are listed as different parts. I might see if I can just get a factory 12 gauge handle and see if it can be dremel'ed to 20 gauge dimensions.
  11. I was thinking about putting an extended charging handle on my 20 gauge Remington 1100 that I just picked up. I'm not going to use it for much else besides clay shooting now but I'd just like something that's a bit easier and more comfortable to grab on to. However, all of the 1100 extended bolt handles seem to be sized for 12 gauge. Is there an actual difference in the dimensions of the charging handle for the 20 gauge versus the 12 gauge? I don't know anyone with a 12 gauge to do a comparison, nor can I find any side by side pictures anywhere. I figure I'd ask around a bit before I sunk 20 bucks into a part I might not be able to use.
  12. Thanks for putting this up. I found a seller on ebay that does custom metal fabrication since I can't really do much on my own, and he gave me a quote of 3.85 each for plain round plates, 4" diameter, made of stainless steel. They have a CNC plasma cutter machine so they can make pretty much any shape so I'm going to try to get a basic plate rack up and going and will move on other more interesting shapes. Since I can't weld would something like JB weld or a super strong epoxy be suitable for connecting the plates to the hinges?
  13. Thanks. If anyone's curious this is the ammo case/loading block combo I got. In retrospect I would have rather gotten the 4wheelguns one because they make 100 round blocks with storage for the speedloaders which, while not absolutely necessary, is pleasing to my eye.
  14. It was a lot grimier when I picked it up. I've never had a stainless steel gun before and I honestly question why I worked to get it so clean. Don't get me wrong, it was in need of a good cleaning - the barrel was pretty heavily leaded and there was carbon on every surface but the face of the trigger. It just seems like stainless steel loves to be dirty!
