Just became a lifetime member! Back to shooting after a long layoff. Got married to a wonderful woman and we just had our first child. Working up a full training plan using Seeklander's materials. Recently received a Marvel .22 kit done up by Ed Cameron and the boys.

Shot my first match in early 2001 at Aurora Pistol Club in Colorado. I remember being in awe of Ron Avery. Changed jobs after 9/11 and didn't get back into USPSA until moving to Las Vegas in 2005. Took classes from Matt Burkett and Matt McLearn in Arizona. In Vegas, Ray Witham and Glen Higdon took me under their wings and taught me a ton. Can't thank those guys enough! They've both since moved away, but I think at this point it's just a matter of putting in the work to reach GM.

    Other Interests:
Cars & Bikes - They're all sold now.:-(

Sports Psychology-Very interested in this aspect of the sport.  Did a three day private session with Lanny Bassham. Have studied quite a few books on the subject as well.

Athletics-runnning mostly. Worked with Mark Phillipi for a year to help with my movement for USPSA. Learned a lot about strength training from him and his guys.

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I had the same question when I ordered my G34 from TTI. They said generally, they get a better trigger out of the Gen 3 guns. Call TTI for more details. Also, you can order the completed gun from them.
  2. 3d and Bigg, yep same thoughts here. I am making the switch. Receiving a G34 from Taran this week. I am getting back into USPSA after a few years off to start a family. I have two 2011 Open blasters from a top smith. After running the numbers, I just couldn't justify staying in Open Division. Bullets for Production end up costing less than half the cost due to the fact you don't have to use jacketed, the powders are cheaper and you use much much less (1/3rd!) of it. The people who say that powder cost difference is inconsequential have never used VV N105. To me the biggest benefits of going with the Glock are: 1. If something goes down on the Glock you can fix it myself. With an Open gun I have to send it back to the maker and wait. 2. Parts are much cheaper. 3. Ammo cost difference is HUGE. 4. Bullet and powder availability is much much better for Production. 5. The Glock will most likely be less finicky. 6. Glocks are readily available. No long waits. When you need to replace the gun (or get a back up), you can have it in hand quickly.
  3. Went to a Safariland 012 after very nearly having my gun yanked out of my Ghost holster at Nats. It was a really windy day. A trash bag was tied to the upright of a stage canopy. Trash bag caught the end of the barrel. The barrel was almost parallel to the ground by the time I got it untangled from the trash bag. After that, I looked for a pinned ghost for several months, because I liked everything else about the holster. Never found one, so went with the Safariland. I hate the idea of getting DQed for a dropped gun more than I like the idea of being able to use the same holster in Open and Limited. The Double Alpha wasn't out at the time, but I think this problem may have been solved by Saul. Maybe someone else can chime in. Can you pull the gun free of a DA holster by pulling forwards on the barrel?
  4. Another vote for TAD. They make awesome pants. I have three pairs of the force 10 RS pants and they are almost all I wear on the weekend. A bit overly warm for summers in Vegas, but nice for colder climates. I also have a pair of their Legionnare pants and they are definitely great for the cold. They are made of a heavy herringbone cotton. Sent a pair to my brother in law who lives in Siberia. He wears them during the winter and loves them. TAD is a bit expensive, but they hold up very well, and they're cut great They're also made in the USA.
  5. Two Cameron STI's, both 38SC. Had the first one built in 9MM. Shot it for a season. Too flippy for my taste, so had him build the second in 38SC and re-barrel the 9MM to 38SC. Screw the extra brass cost. I like 38SC.
  6. Otis Austin out of Kingman, AZ is a Master x 4. The guy can shoot. I remember him telling me that he didn't take up shooting until after he retired. I found that motivating and encouraging.
  7. You actually notice when certain BE forum posters change their avatars and feel a little pang of nostalgia for the old one. Like Shred's red bouncing ball guy.

    Inspiration

Cool story. I used to have a Border Collie named Jack Bowser (get it). Miss that dog. Jack would watch my big fat cat for hours while it slept, then Jack would follow it like he wanted to herd him, but knew better than to try... Webster the cat could lay down some serious woop ass... Marty
  9. With a mason jar I would have to cap it and put it sideways. I suppose with the right shape pyrex container it could just sit in the basket with an open top as long as it was tall enough. Of coarse I'm talking about cleaning a full size slide, barrel, etc.
  10. Pyrex, shoulda known when you said that you used it at the physics department. I'll try it.
  11. Chuck, the glass container is a great idea. I picked up a Crest cleaner at SHOT last year. I'm thinking about using a large mason jar. What do you use specifically?
  12. Yeah, I used to have a different screen name. I think my original screen name got connected to my new one? I don't know. Anyway, I decided I wanted my screen name to be my name instead of a strange moniker. I have been working hard and am slowly, but surely climbing the ranks. I come here every once in a while to read a few posts. I don't have much free time though, between family, work and practice.
  13. Favorite match gun - 9mm open built by Ed Cameron. It will shoot any 9mm ammo from reloads to whitebox. Pretty too. Favorite carry gun - Rohrbaugh R-9S. No edges, small and simple to operate. About the size of a Kel-tec .380, but it's a 9mm. If things have gone to hell in a hand basket Mad Max style I'd like to have my full house JP rifle. Great all round rifle with the ACOG on it.
  14. Been lurking for a while. I have a couple open pistoleros. One by McLearn. One by Cameron. Pic is 3MB, so won't upload. Haven't won anything with them yet, but I'm working on it. Being from the south, maybe you'll appreciate that my great great grandfather was General Joe Shelby. The finest cavalry man in the South and the only Confederate General to never surrender. Whatada say?
