  1. Matt Cheely did my 34 open gun for me as well. Did cuts similar to jriera's on the slide sides except they are not angled and the G18c type accelerator cut on top between the ejection port and the rear site dovetail. The quality of his work is top notch and the turn time was better then every place I looked at getting the work done at. It's the only one like it I have seen from TX to the FL panhandle since he worked on it for me back in '07 or '08. Folks love to look at it whenever I take it to a match. Malladus
  2. I picked up the 2 loader and 6 set loading block one. Got it in time to use at the local steel match this weekend. Works like a charm, especially if all you have to do is stand there and shoot. malladus
  3. Alot of the local clubs will have revolver divisons as well. I shoot two steel matches a month at the Dallas Pistol Club with revovler. We have a couple dedicated revolver shooters regularly. They also host USPSA and IDPA style matches that are fun. For IDPA and USPSA there are a couple clubs in the DFW area that run matches. Havent't been to any of them yet so not sure of the revolver count at them. I'm planning on checking out the Midland ICORE eventually, and I know OKC has a club that has a month ICORE match. Robert
  4. Well after my last two reloads on the the clock I had to eat at a steel match, I would say killing me is being generous. It was more like they were kicking dirt in the hole I fell into. I have to admit that I really had proacticed reloading my 686+ at all before shooting in my first steel match. Luckily no one was video taping me our else I would probably have to post a tutorial on how not to do. Robert
  5. Thanks for the feedback. I'll probably give one a shot. I've been mostly shooting steel matches, and reloads (which I need to really practice are kiling me) so anything that helps is worth looking into. Robert
  6. Longtine lurker, first time poster here in revolvers. Been shooting the tactical tupperware almost exclusively for the last few years and happened to get a good deal on a 686+ that someone had set up for ICORE. Took it to a steel match and remembered how much I loved shooting revolvers and decided that I was going to just start shooting revolver from here on out and went out and picked up a 627-3 V-Comp as well. Be lurking here trying to sponge up tips and helpful information where I can. Had a question though, I've seen lots of talk about grips, triggers and such like that, but what is the general consensus on extended cyclinder latches? I realize that its going to be game specific, but are they helpful or just a crutch? Robert
  7. Figured since I got some good advice here I would post a little update on how the project is going. After fidgeting around with commerical loads, spring combinations, the Carver Mount, and digesting all the advice I got from here I opted to try having the slide lightened a bit. Sent the slide off to Matt Cheely and let him do some work on it. Wound up cuttings some weight out of the sides and putting in a cut on the rear top of the slide remiscant of the that used on the G18. The attached image shows the slide right after the work was done. I've still not decided on a final finish for the slide yet. After getting it back from Matt, it sat in the gunsafe for a couple months until I got a chance last week to finally test it out. So here is the current configuration: Glock 34 Carver Mount and CMore 11# ISMI captured spring on stainless rod 3.5 lone work connector lone wolf barrel and 9mm minor comp Glockmeister brass mag well (I'll try and get a photo up later of the whole thing). Took it to the range with several differient factory 147 grain loads (American Eagle, Blazer Al, Fiochhi, and Speer Lawman). The AE ammo gave failures to eject. The Speer and Balzer ran good 90% of the time, but gave failures to eject on and off. The Fiocchi ammo ran like grease through the gun, no problems and it printed really nice at the point of aim for the dot (hadn't adjusted that yet). So now I need to order some more ammo, get the thing sighted in and get some time to go hit a match. Malladus
  8. I've put on 5 set's so far (2x17, 26, and 2x34) and had to file on all of them. Some took a little more then others, but after a little work the pusher did the rest just fine. Malladus
  9. That's pretty nice. You do the work yourself? About how much weight did it take off? Malladus
  10. Okay, got another questions. I've been seeing around on the net where folks have had port holes drilled in the side of the slides, and the area in front of the rear sight hollowed out like on the 18C. Anyone ever try this or have it done? Does it make a huge difference in the gun? Any recommendations on who does this type of work? Malladus
  11. Yep, failures to feed. The ejected casing is clearing the port quite well and not causing a jam. Got out to the range today and tried it out after loosening the trigger pin screw, still not functioning. I played around a little with it though to see what variations worked and didn't work. All the ammo I used was Blazer 147 gr. aluminum cased stuff with an ISMI 11# spring. Started by removing the comp, and the gun functioned fine. Put the comp back on and: Took off the C-more and the slide ride mounting plate (the top one) -FTF Detached the side plates from the accessory rail block - FTF Removed the accessory rail locking piece, but left the block on - FTF Took all the block, so only the side plates and locking screw were on and it functioned. Moved the whole upper -comp, barrel, springs and slide over to my other 34 and it functioned. So looks like I'm back to square one and looking at needing to reload. Malladus
  12. Quite honestly I hadn't tried it without the comp on the barrel. I was going to try and hit the range this afternoon or tomorrow so I'll try that and see. As for reloading, gonna be about 8 months before I can start up on that again (relocating to a new city). Also, got a email from JR at LWD and he suggested maybe the carver mount is to tight and pinching the frame. So I'm adding that to my things to try list. Robert
  13. Okay to start, first time poster here, so hi everyone. I've have been learning alot by lurking to date, but have a question. I recently launched on the process of building a Glock open/unlimited gun and have run into a bit of snag. At present the gun has the folowing: Glock 34 lowered ejection port 3.5 polished and lightened connector brass magwell carver mount and c-more lone wolf threaded G34 barrel and 9mm minor comp steel captured rod with 13# and 11# springs (ISMI) So here's my problem while waiting to get the slide back from the gun smith who did the work on lowering the port, I got the barrel and comp and starting testing them on another G34 I had to get a feel for a commerical load that would work the gun until I found something better myself. Long story short, it likes 147 grain balzer and american eagle ammo. Would function flawlessly. Once I got the slide back I moved the barrel and comp over to its real frame and slide and it still operated flawlessly. Then I got my carver mount and c-more and installed them and the gun always fails to feed. I removed the barrel and comp and reinstalled the stock barrel and the gun runs fine again. So in summary: (1) barrel and comp work fine without carver mount (2) stock barrel works fine with carver mount (3) barrel & comp + carver mount = single shot glock Any suggestions on what I should be looking at to fix this? Robert
