Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I also vote for the 34......longer site radius, more velocity, slightly lighter trigger out of the box, little more weight up front.....and if you put a tac light on it, it won't get as dirty :-) I have a 26 for carry, and a 17L for everything else....I have a soft spot for the long slide Just my 2 cents, -Rob
  2. Hi All - just wanted to say thanks for all the support on this conversion, but I have decided that the dark side is just not for me and I have decided to sell.....I just posted it in the classifieds section as a whole package with a bunch of my open equipment, feel free to take a look if anyone is interested in a good backup or looking to get started on the dark side for a GREAT deal. I am going to stick with Limited which I find to be a whole lot of fun, especially with a Tanfoglio :-) Any questions - please feel free to shout. Thanks again, -Rob
  3. Yea Mo - you are correct, I have thrown EVERYTHING at my USP....subsonics, reloads, +P, Hydrashocks, JHP, FMJ, WWB, Blazer, Wolf....etc. and I have NEVER had a problem. I was hoping my EAA would be the same way, but I guess it's just picky on the 9mm with the tapered case.... From what Henning tells me, they should have stuck with small frame on the 9mm guns.....I think CZ still uses a small frame design and the SP-01 seems to be taking over the Production Division....
  4. Sorry - nothing yet....I just trimmed my black rubber grips to work with the EAA Magwell.....I am going to have Rich re-chamber in .38 Super, but he said he is waiting on reamers from Tanfoglio (Italy) before he offers that service. When it goes back to Rich for the re-chamber - I think it's going to come back in silver KG Gun-Kote with Henning's checkered grips......last thing will be a Henning Magwell when he finishes that project... Gun shoots flat and great, 9mm is the problem though - I just can't make the gun reliable with more than 10 rounds in the mag....they just nose dive into the front of the mag....very common issue with large frame 9mm.... Take the same 9mm mag and fill it with .38 Super Comp and the rounds stack perfectly and strip out perfectly.....very frustrating.....my 9mm HK USP has fed about 3,000 rounds without failure.... Once it's all done I will post some pics....
  5. us shooter - nice to know you got one of the early Match guns with the Bomar....wish mine came like that! I don't want to knock the Match (I own one) - it really is a GREAT gun out of the box. I think the Henning x-long firing pin, 13lb hammer spring, extractor spring, and some mild extractor tuning are a must though.... My only real complaint was the round trigger guard, which was causing the gun to rotate in the holster....I actually got it to work in a Hogue PowerSpeed that I tweaked to work well with the Match and a round trigger guard - BUT - you had to use the muzzle hood that comes with it. If you wanted to walk around with it, you also need to keep it locked. Unlocked (race mode) is NOT suitable, and NOT safe to carry around. In the end - I just sent to Rich and spent the $150 to have it squared so I could use a Ghost - which I LOVE. Either way - the Match is a great gun to get started in Limited with :-) -Rob
  6. I don't think so - I have a Match that I had converted to an Open blaster and Rich over at Canyon Creek "squared" the trigger guard for me. The Tanfoglio Ghost Holster I have (and most race holsters that work this way) NEED a square trigger guard for proper retention. The service costs $150 and I think it's worth it - especially if you want to shoot Limited class with a Match... On another note - The Match is a GREAT gun - the only problem I have found with shooting it in Limited is that you need to square the trigger guard to work with "race style" holsters ($150), then you need to do something about that factory sight and have the slide cut to fit a Bomar ($200 labor \ $75 for the rear sight). Then you need a magwell ($110). All this puts you at $535 in upgrades to compete in Limited. If you paid about $485 for the gun + the $535 in upgrades = $1020 You can buy a brand new Limited in .40 from Henning for right about $1000. So for the same price, you can have everything mentioned above, a nice hard chrome finish, extra recoil springs, full dust cover, extended ambi-saftey and it even comes with the slide drilled and tapped in case you want to make it an Open blaster down the road....overall - it's probably the best value out there in Limited class guns right now. Sorry for the long reply - just want to make sure you don't make the mistake I did.... hope this helps :-) -Rob
  7. Cool - thanks all - Looks like I'll order a blank one and just drill it to fit... Thanks! -Rob
  8. So - does a C-More Serendipity (3-hole) fit the 4-hole setup on a factory EAA gun like the Limited, Gold Team and Hunter? I would like to try the CR Speed Thumbrest and would like to know if I need to order a "blank" one, of it the C-More pattern will fit.... Thanks! -Rob
  9. Hi All - just wondering if anyone can help me with the final finish on my open gun that Rich at Canyon Creek did....which started life as a EAA 9mm Witness Elite Match I was thinking hard chrome at first, but someone indicated that with any welding - some slight discoloration can show through. I have been thinking about doing the whole gun (comp included) in KG Gun Kote "brushed stainless" or "silver".... Does anyone have experience with this coating? How well does it hold up to cleaning solvents, brushes, and overall general usage...? Thanks! -Rob
  10. I TOTALLY agree that it is "high time we had a decent alternative to the 19/2011 platform". I also agree that they feel a bit more natural to hold than the 2011 platform. Price is the other factor for me. I would love to know why an STI Limited gun is almost TWICE the price of an Tanfoglio Limited gun... The prices in the Tanfoglio platform are MUCH more reasonable and if I look at the build quality of a Gold Team 38 Super (which can be had for about $1600 - NEW) versus something like an STI Grand Master in 38 Super (which can be had for about $3,000 - NEW) - again - I just don't see a "twice the price" difference. Again - not at all saying that STI guns are poorly made (they are quite nice). I just don't see anything to justify that much difference in cost. The SVI guns are even more expensive, but they have some cool milling though :-)
  11. Personally - I think it's great that these guns are getting some face time. Don't get me wrong - I like the whole STI\SVI thing, but DAMN - there are WAY too many of them out there. It's nice to see something different every now and then. When I compare something like an Witness Elite Limited to an STI Edge - I actually think the Tanfoglio Limited looks nicer than the Edge (and is also a bit less "needy" during the break-in period) Thanks Henning for putting some great product (and knowledge) out there for all of us just jumping into the Tanfoglio scene. -Rob
  12. Hi Henning - that sure is great news (finally). Did you ask if the Gold Team guns were V8 or V12 configuration? Thanks, -Rob
  13. OK - compared to the traditional mount - I think it's ugly (from a cosmetic perspective). BUT - I can really see how functional it can be by lowering the dot and getting it MUCH closer to the bore....very cool, I like how close to the bore it is....almost like electronic iron sights :-) -Rob
  14. I wouldn't hold your breath on that one. The heat used in welding discolors the metal surrounding the weld area and it will show through hard chrome. Most smiths will advise their clients not to chrome if there has been extensive welding done in a particular area for that reason. Interesting, thanks for the tip - I will have to look into that. It wouldn't be a big deal if I had to re-finish in something like KG Gun-Kote. I have seen Rich's work with the satin Gun-Kote and it looks really nice....I just love the look of the hard chrome :-)
  15. Thanks all for the tips....going to try a little tweaking myself (love a challenge) before I give up and re-chamber for 38 Super rimless.... Good article on the extractor, I am definitely going to give that a try.... More to come as I tweak and test. Thanks again all for the great tips :-) -Rob
