Seems like the Delta Point is the preferred optics around here, I wonder why everyone seems to offer cut slides for the RMR?

Hi All, Looking to move into carry optics and have a gen2 G17. I've seen a lot of machined slides for gen 3's.Are gen 2 and gen 3 compatible as far as slides go? thanks.

quick update: We've been spending a lot time at the range and at home working on safety, grip strength and stance and I'm excited to report we're planning our first match together at the end of the month. thank you all for the advice. TB

Thanks again for the info. We made another range trip today but unfortunately, I did not check here to see the new responses. I tried a 13# recoil spring but that didn't seem to change anything. The gun runs fine for me so I think it's a strength / stance issue for my son. We'll work on stance and grip with some dry fire practice and me cycling the slide. For the folks running an 11 lb recoil spring, did you also change the striker spring? How low can you go? thanks again. -todd

Hi All, My 10 year old son is starting to shoot pistol (22lr) after attending a few matches with me as a spectator. I worked up some sub-minor 9mm loads with 2.7 gr of WST and a 145 gr Bayou coated RN bullet for him to try. It's very soft and when I fire it, the gun functions (ejects the brass about 2-3 feet at most) but when my son fires it, it will fail to eject every time (limp wristing?). I've tried loads up to 3.0 gr of WST with no change in function. We're working on his grip and strength but my question is would a lighter recoil spring help this issue? It's a bone stock gen 2 G17 with factory captured recoil spring. I've not chrono'd the loads so I'm guessing they are sub-minor. I'm shooting in Limited with a 40S&W so the 9mm minor loading and production class is new for me. thanks.

Thanks Scott. I didn't notice that before. It would be for a 1911 slide and the DP uses 4 locators at the 4 corners. If I did it right, here is a photo of the original slide:

thanks for the responses and pics guys. Does anyone machine them with the locator pins like the Leupold base rather than the just a flat surface with the mounting screw holes?

A couple years ago I had Matt Cheely machine my slide to low mount a Deltapoint and he did a fantastic job. I'm very happy. I want to have another slide machined the same way but unfortunately Matt is not currently taking on this type of work. Does anyone else do this type of machining? thanks.

Hi everybody, It's been awhile since I updated my results here. I've continued to test and I think I've settled in on the following load: 8.6 grains of Viht. 3N37 is averaging about 1380 FPS with a 125 Zero JHP loaded to 1.23" oal. I'm using CCI Small Pistol primers with no pressure signs. This load is very accurate in my pistol and the dot movement seems pretty good. thanks, -todd

Thanks guys. I loaded up some at 8.4 gr and 8.5 gr with a CCI SPP to try next time out. I'd also like to try some with SRP. How far should I back the load off to switch to a SRP. My last tested load was 8.3 gr with a SPP which chrono'ed at 1325 avg. thanks, -todd

Thanks for the quick reply O1. It sounds like maybe I need to try some N105. I've got a 4lb jug of 3N37 that I got from a friend so I was hoping I could make that work. I have some Win SRP so I can give those primers a try also and keep working my up carefully. Thanks for the input. -todd

Hi Everybody, I'm working on a .38 Super major load and I'm wondering about my chrono results. Chrono is a CED M2 and seems to be working OK. My other loads in other calibers seem to read normally. Barrel is a Clark .38 Super 4.5" with an EGW cone comp. It's an old barrel but with a low round count. I'm rehabing an old safe queen. After researching loads around here, I was expecting to be between 7.8 and 8.2 to make major comfortably with some room to spare. Load is 8.3 gr Viht 3N37 with a 125 Zero JHP loaded to 1.25" with CCI SPP and mixed brass (Federal, Win and Starline) Today I chrono'ed 8.3 of 3N37 (working my up) and it was only averaging 1325 FPS which is lower than I expected. SD was 8.0 Cases look good after firing with no apparent pressure signs. I guess I'll try 8.4 and see what happens. Do I just have a slow barrel? thanks, -todd

I just finished test firing my first real batch of the 180 gr .401 and I'm very pleased. 4.7 grain WST loaded to 1.20" I have yet to chrono but so far it feels great and the accuracy is really nice. Really happy. Thanks Donnie!

Hi Guys, Thanks for all the quick replies. That's why I love this sight! I don't believe this is a glock bulge issue. This is once fired Winchester (Nickel) brass purchased from Brassman. There are some cases that show a bit of a bulge, but I can turn the case around and the bulged section will drop into the chamber so I believe it's the crimp that is binding while chambering. I tightened the crimp a bit and that appears to have solved the chambering issue. However it appears to be slightly sizing the bullets now to .400" or .4005". Is this going to be a problem? My Zero loads were crimped with the Lee FCD at .423" and those all feed without issue. However, when I used this die on the 185 Precision Moly's. it was sizing them down to .399" so I decided to try the regular Lee Taper Crimp die instead. thanks again. -todd

Hi Everybody, I'm getting about 20 out of every 100 rounds that will not drop in when chamber checking. I'm using a Lee taper crimp die and I'm loading Precision 185 moly bullets loaded to 1.20" AOL. This is a Cheely built gun with a KKM barrel. The rounds all drop into a Dillon gauge fine, but the barrel's chamber is a bit tighter than the guage. The crimp die is set to crimp at .423 and I'm hesitant to crimp any tighter for fear of undersizing the bullets. If I run the rejected rounds through the crimp station a 2nd time, then they work fine. Is this normal? Why would a second pass through the crimp station fix the issue? Should I just adjust my crimp a bit tighter and not worry about undersizing? I've also loaded some 180 gr Zero JHP's using the Lee FCD and those all chamber perfectly. thanks. -todd

I have a P14 and found that my mags had a welded seam down the back that was rough and needed to be smoothed out with some wet /dry sanding. I also polished the inside by wrapping some steel wool around a stick and then ran them through the tumbler. Since the 45 acp mags don't have a rib, the whole case in contacting the whole magazine surface so it's important to polish any point where the rounds contact the magazine. The more I used them, the smoother they got and now I don't have any issues loading to full capacity. Hope that helps. -todd

Hi Everybody, Have any of you installed a slide ride sight on a Shorty? I'm thinking about adding a Delta Point and a comp to an old Para based .38 Super gun that's been sitting in the safe. I really enjoy shooting Limited, so this would be just for fun - not USPSA. I'm trying to make the sighting, balance, and feel be as close to my Limited as possible. Right now, the 5.5" barrel and comp feel really long and nose heavy. I'm also thinking of cutting the slide back and adding a lighter comp to lighten it up and improve the balance. thanks, -todd

Hi Everybody, I'm a little confused while trying to work up a GI type 230gr FMJ load. I've read that load should be about 840 FPS and that Bullseye was a popular choice. I've looked in several different reference manuals and there seems to be a very wide range of Max charge weights for this powder, varying from 5.0gr to 5.7gr. This has me a little nervous as I do not have access to a chrono. I've checked the Lyman, Lee, and Speer manuals as well as the Alliant website. Alliant lists that 5.7gr at 1.26" OAL will do 840 FPS. Who's load data should I trust? Where do I go from here? Is there a better powder choice? I have Clays that I really like for my match and practice loads, but I don't think it will work for this application. The Bullseye loads I've worked up are very accurate, but a little dirty. I've gone as far as 5.0gr and I'm not seeing any pressure signs, but I thought I would check with you guys first before going any further. Thank you for your input. -todd
