  1. I called him a couple weeks back asking about a CO gun, and he talked about how well you are shooting your Canik. I've been shooting them both quite a bit for the last day or so, and I gotta be honest - From what I'm see so far, I'm shooting the Canik better. I think part of it is the grip is smaller so it fits me better. Until I shoot them in real conditions, on a stage, I'm holding off and trying to remain open minded...then, as you say, I'll make a decision on which one I shoot best, and buy a back up of it..
  2. Racer here...I bought a Vangaurd too but haven’t tried it yet...the Racer feels perfect
  3. I'm coming from shooting Open for years - thought I'd try Carry Optic where the cost of racing is lots cheaper. I picked up a like new X5 and a new Canik TP9SFX. The comparsion between the two has been fun to date. Both a Excellent pistols and each has its own positives for me. Both pistol have run flawless through my testing so far. X5 - equipped Romeo Pro 1, Gray Guns competition sear and spring setup, Keres Pro adjustable trigger..Talon Grip wrap.. Canik - Came with Vortex red dot, I installed following upgrades - Freedomsmith Pro trigger, Taylor Freelance Brass back strap, Ghost 6.5 Firing Pin Spring, Reduced Power Pin Safety plunder Spring, Talon Grip wraps The X5 trigger has little pre-travel, smooth take up til break and nice short re-set. I'm guessing the trigger is 3.5 lbs or so. After my mods, the Canik has very little pre-travel(enough that I feel plenty safe with it) smooth, crisp, short take up till break and again, very nice short reset. It's hard to believe what the Freedomsmith trigger did for this gun. I'm estimating the trigger breaks at around 4.o-4.5lbs. Its a little heavier than the X5's, but it's just as nice or nicer in it's on way. I haven't group them yet, but both guns appear to be very accurate shooting freehand out to 30 yards. Load is 4.1 gr of titgroup, 124 MG JHP for both pistol producing 130-135 PF in both guns -Interesting enough, the Canik is about 20fps faster than the X5 with the same load, but they are close enough that I can use one load for both guns knowing I'm making PF. Both guns come apart easy for fast, easy cleaning, but the X5 is easiest. Shooting the guns - they both shoot great, and both are likely better than I am...The Canik took a little work with a dremel tool in a few places to keep the plastic frame from biting into my hand...the beavertail area at rear of gun, and I double undercut the trigger guard. I have smaller hands so the Canik with the Taylor Tungsten back strap really fits my hands very well..I dislike the extended slide release - I keep getting my thumb/finger against it rubbing a sore spot. The normal release is on order and should clear this up. The Sig just feels more sturdy and heavier. It's grip feels a little large for me, but yet its still comfortable and I'm shooting it well. The trigger guard need to be double undercut for my taste, but I'm not wild about the ideal of grinding on a $1000 pistol. On the shot, the Canik definitely has more felt recoil/shock to the hand. The poly frame of the Sig does a great job reducing this efffect. Both guns come to a very natural point of aim for me as well...I've got lots more shooting and testing to do to figure out which pistol is best for me, but I'm looking forward to seeing how both guns do at matches. I've got a match this coming weekend, just got to decide which gun to shoot first. The Canik had been a HUGE surprise for me. $649 with the Vortex, two mags and holster - Deal of the century for someone wanting to get into the sport, and have a very competitive gun right out the box...make a few upgrades and have a incredible gun for the money. The X5 is everything it should be as well and what you'd expect from Sig...a great gun...
  4. Dropped in the Freedomsmith Pro trigger this afternoon and Taylor Tungsten backstrap - I can't believe the difference this trigger made in this gun. I haven't put in the springs or tungsten guide rod yet, but the gun feel and shoots amazing. The Taylor brass +4 base pads really balance the gun nicely...I truly wouldn't believed that a company could build a competitive gun at the Canik price point..
  5. Sold a pistol, made a donation - Thanks for the site!
  6. What is the soft shooting load for the Canik with 124MG's I just tried some Major Pistol - 7.3 grs at 1.135" -running about 133-135pf and feels pretty good, but I know this can't be the ideal powder - I've read that Titegroup is pretty violent. I've got some Sport Pistol inbound and have a ton of Win Auto Comp, WSF, Sil, HS-6.. Thanks
  7. Picked up a TP9SFX with Vortex at local gun shop yesterday morning. Got to shoot it a little today. Coming from a Top end SV 9 Open gun, it's a big change, but I got to say that the gun flat out shoots and is very accurate with factory 115gr ammo at 144fp. I'm waiting on powder to start reloading the 124MG that I have. The trigger on the gun isn't bad at all once you take up the pre-travel. Got a short reset. The hard plastic grip transfer the 145PF into your hands but coming from a Steel frame gun, I'll have to get use to this. I was VERY surprise with the Vortex. I removed sight plate, install the Vortex and it was shooting dead on from factory. The gun point of aim is very natural for me with the dot always being in the center of the lens when I bring the gun up...Overall, I'm VERY impressed with this pistol, especially for the price point. It was $650 with the Vortex, 2-mags with Alumi base pads, and even comes with holster. I spent couple hundred on upgrades today as I'm thinking I'm going to like the pistol enough to keep. Ordered Freedomsmith trigger, ghost 6.5 striker spring, ghost reducer power block plunger spring, Talon granulate grip, 74guiderod tungsten guide rod with 13/14 Wolf commander springs, some taylor freelance +4 basepads and gram followers and springs and a Taylor Freelance brass backstrap..It's going to be a fun build..
  8. Thanks for input..bought a X5 setup..haven’t handled one yet, so we’ll see
  9. I haven't had the chance to handle several of the newer pistols like the new Sigs..- I did try a new CZ Shadow 2 for production couple years back and I found the grip was just a little too big for me. The SP-01 that I had fit my hands well, wish I'd kept it. Been shooting 2011 frame Open guns for years, but they've always felt too big, never fit my hands like a 1911 does, so hoping to find a one that will actually fit my hands. I've heard the Canik TP9SFX is a good gun and on the smaller size. I was temped to pick up a ZEV glock, but after reading the bad reviews going to pass on it. I have handled a Walther and it felt really big. Thanks for the suggestions and thoughts..
  10. What’s the general thought on which pistol is best around for competing in carry optics class? I know there are lots of opinions, but there has got to be one general pistol that the top shooters are shooting...I’ll be coming from Open -I’m high A shooter..
  11. Giruard, Creedmore Pole Cat are both great stands..be sure and get 1” tubes though..makes stands much more steady. I’ve used about all scopes out there..I’m a F-Class shooter, compete national level..I’m currently using a Kowa 883 angled..it’s ED glass is incredible! That being said, for $900 you can get a Kowa TSv-82 scope..it’s not ED glass, but for me, I can see mirage much better through it as compared to my $3000 883...the 883 seems to “look through” mirage sometimes where the 82 in same mirage jumps out at me.... The Kowa’s with their LER eye pieces offer the best in eye relief of all scopes in my opinion. The Nightforce, Vortex, etc are all good scopes, but the box on the Kowa is huge..makes it really easy to setup and use shooting from prone..
  12. Used them for years - both standard and mags - never had an issue
  13. I'm running the 2.5..its small, but for me, I like it...I do believer the 1 moa would be too small for sure..
  14. I surprise to see how many rounds some of you'll go before cleaning. I'm sure most gun will handle not cleaning as often, but its just a mental thing for me to know that gun is clean and there's no reason for it to not run..
  15. Your gun is going to be awesome! Nice build!
  16. Everytime it's shoot more than 100 rounds its cleaned..
  17. I think there is an upgrade that is free that will allow this. I think I remember doing this to mine but I've never used it. Check their website..
  18. I love both grips - the IMP grip I like just a bit better when it's really hot and I'm sweating bad..other than that, they are both great. I think I prefer the Romeo over the SRO..both good sights, just little that the Romeo is easier to turn off and on, plus little bigger glass...
  19. Think that is my favorite build so far!!
