  1. Howard, what about a 9mm 2011 that you plan to run around 130pf. I shot with you at the proam with one. It is classic weight, but I have been debating having it lightened a little. Does your same opinion apply or would you go lighter since it is a 9mm?
  2. What is the max oal I could load in 9mm sti 2011 mags with spacers and still be reliable? Thanks.
  3. I am considering switching to the steel sti magwell, but will the steel damage my mag lips more than the aluminum magwell?
  4. I carry a 9mm STI Tactical on duty. It came from Dawson with the enhancement package. I added two things for reliability, a thumb shield and an aftec extractor. It runs great with all my factory sti mags. I am as comfortable in this guns reliability as the glocks and sigs I have run in the past. I could not say that before it had the thumb shield and aftec. I also have a custom 2011 9mm I have had for about 8 months and about 14000 rounds. It is extremely reliable also. Get one and put rounds through it until you feel comfortable. I chose a 9mm for a duty gun for the same reasons you listed.
  5. Joe4d, I'll give you a little of my own history, and why I believe shooting definetly has an effect. In the past 3 yrs I have been tested at least 6 or 7 times. I shoot about 20,000 rnds a year. When I first got tested I was at 42 ug/dl. I was shooting lead in a partially enclosed metal cage. I switched to moly bullets, started shooting outside, and got on some of the lead chelate pills. I dropped down to about 17. I continued shooting moly into the 2nd year and in mid season was back up to 21. I broke my hand last Oct and didn't shoot for about 8 weeks. I got retested in Dec and was down to 12. I just got retested again and I'm back to 21. I believe that everyone is probably different, but at least for me shooting or loading seems to make a difference. So, should I not worry if I run up to the mid 20s and bring it back down in the off season, or will several years of this probably have negative health effects.
  6. I have a 3 yr old and another that is almost 1. I had the 3 yr old tested last year when I was at about the same lead level, and he was only at 4 ug/dl. I think I am doing a good job keeping it away from them. I am wondering at what point is it getting bad for my own health.
  7. Do you use latex gloves when you load your ammo? What about not using moly bullets for awhile? I don't use latex gloves, but I wash my hands when I'm done loading. Maybe I should try that. I really don't want to spend the extra money for jacketed bullets, unless 21 is just too high.
  8. I guess it's 21 ug/dl. I got my blood taken and they said my lead level was 21.
  9. I have done alot of searching on this topic. I would like some educated opinions on how high is to high. I recently tested at 21. I don't shoot indoors, I shoot about 500rnds a week, and I have been using polymer coated bullets. At 21 should I be worried enough to stop shooting for a while until it comes down, or should I not be that concerned yet. My doctor thinks I should always be at 10. I read somewhere else that 10 to 19 is normal. At what level would you take a break from shooting?
  10. Just had my level checked. I am at 21. I was at 42 a couple years ago. At what level should I be concerned. I know 21 is high, but is it that bad?
  11. What is the proper handling technique when tumbling/sifting brass? My lead count is too high. That may be part of my problem.
  12. I have a 5.0 Tactical in 9mm. I got it from Dawson Precision, and they turned down the bull barrel to make it a bushing barrel so it would be idpa legal. They charged me $50 to turn down the barrel and fit a bushing.
  13. I carry a STI 5.0 Tactical 9mm on duty. Out of 8 factory STI mags I sent 1 back because the feed lips were not right, and Dawson Precision replaced it. No other problems with any of the rest of them. I have probably shot 10,000 rounds out of those mags with 2 9mm 2011s. I have no problem carrying them on duty, as long as they have been well tested.
  14. Fortyfiveshooter, I like your idea. I know this isn't a popular opinion, but I think we have too many divisions. In my opinion, when you go to a major match, it should be to see how you stack up with others in the section/state/area etc. Not one fifth of those in the section/state/area. I know that uspsa is not going to drop any divisions. What I would like to see is the Major matches limiting the divisions, kind of like the Nationals. That is why I am excited to shoot the pro-am this year. One division, iron sights. You have to compete against everyone. No hiding. Another thing I don't understand, if SS guns can't compete in Limited 10, how does Leatham win Lim 10 Nats with a single stack. Yeah, I know it's Leatham, but it's not like he runs away with the Lim Nats every year where he is at no disadvantage. Also, why not let other single stack guns compete in SS. The 1911 should have the advantage anyway. If something better is out there or designed, wouldn't it be good to know. We are beginning to stiffle technology with too many rules and divisions.
  15. Is this still on the half day format? Is there any afternoon slots available, Fri, Sat, or Sun? Is the prize table being done like last year, door prizes plus class winner prizes? If it is, what are the prizes for 1st Master in Limited and Limited 10? Thanks.
  16. I need a starting load for 147 gr berrys and solo 1000. I will be shooting them through a STI 5" 2011. Looking to make around 135pf. I have some load data for the solo 1000, but it does not include 147gr bullets of any kind. Thanks.
  17. It could be that you don't see the idpa masters very often because they gravitate to ipsc and don't shoot many idpa matches anymore. The last two years I only shot two idpa matches, no local matches. I do plan on shooting 3 or 4 major idpa matches this year. Going after the STI money. I don't shoot the local matches because the low round count idpa matches aren't worth the drive(almost an hour drive).
  18. Master in ssp and esp. Never shot any others. Todd Kunz A21645
  19. On stage 7 can you only grab one can at a time? Also, what is the approx distance to the plate racks on stage 7? Might as well practice plate racks at that distance.
  20. How about on a 223 rifle?
  21. I have two SDBs, one set-up for 9 the other 40. You always have spare parts if something goes wrong, and it only takes about 5 seconds to move the chair to the other machine. If I only had one I would be changing things constsantly. I have to change things enough as it is, switching different weight or style bullets because one is cheaper for practice or better for matches. Get the SDB. Your son-in-law may want to load 45 when you just switched over to 40.
  22. So, how many are signing up as pros for this match, and who are they? Just wondering who I am going to get to watch.
  23. Is the slide weight bare, or is that with sights and everything attached?
  24. I'm curious what PF everyone is planning on shooting for this match. Since there is no PF, but the plates must be knocked over, and knocked over fast to shoot the one behind it on some stages. Is there any advantage in knock down power using a heavier bullet at the same PF?
