Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I must admit I am a fan of the Red Bull and intoxicating additives. But deep down I know it has to be horrible for you. Thankfully I don't drink often at all. So my liver has time to process that death in a glass.
  2. Get the Dillon. I recieved a 650 as a Christmas gift from a very generous fiancee 2 year ago. Since then I have saved a ton of money on shooting. As a matter of fact, I bought factory ammo recently because I am totally out of components and needed to get to the range. As I handed over my debit card in the check out line of Cabellas, I almost broke into tears. GET THE DILLON!
  3. I hit that burnout point. Between never having time to practice, working when all the good paper matches were, and the component price drive, I couldn't justify staying in the sport. Now my schedule has changed, and I have weekends off. I am going to try to buy some components get the Dillon fired up and start a practice regiment. I eventually just got tired of shooting crappy. Then I swithced guns to shoot 9X19, so I can shoot more for less. But the gun was a whole new learning curve. I figured that there is no reason to waste bullets and entry fees if I can't practice and shoot crappy. So we will see if this changes.
  4. My chrono has been shot three times. I winged one of the plastic vertical supports with a 9X19. It just melted a bit of plastic, the support still worked. Until a friend clocked the support and sky screen with a .45ACP. And last time out another friend literally sliced a sky screen in half with a .223, he could not have done a better job if he actually tried to hit it. Thankfully parts are cheap.
  5. What is their website. I can not seem to find it.
  6. +1000 If the factory doesn't know that a product is having issues because the end user fixes it, they do not have a chance to fix their product line, because they are blissfully unaware of the flaw. That and return shipping on a bunch of defective units will add up quick, and they will take notice.
  7. I ordered a 9mm Trojan a few months ago. During the match the slided failed to move forward after firing. I though my recoil spring broke. Turns out my ejector bent out to the left and bound up the slide. I was running 9 round mags and was sure that I didn't damage it by slamming a mag home. The ejector was simply bent too far for it to be an issue. I sent the gun back to STI, and it turns out they installed the wrong ejector in it before it shipped. Maybe that was the issue? If they did it once, they could definetly do it again.
  8. I could understand the clean and inspect charge. After all wouldn't you be kinda torqued if you got the gun back and found another problem that he missed bacause the gun was dirty? And the barrel issue is probably as another poster mentioned. He maybe noticed that due to longterm damage and abuse (through no fault of yours, but possibly the previous smith that failed to recognize an issue) after he fit a new link and test fired it. There is no way to notice all the problems a gun may have without firing it. And when he test fired it he probably noticed some other barrel issues. All in all I think the bill was reasonable given the timing of the repair.
  9. I built 2 guns on Ameetec lowers, they both had telescopic stocks. One was a 11.25" SBR build for myself, and the other was a 16" carbine for a friend. Neither would lock the bolt back on an empty mag. After a couple hundred rounds it started to work however. The bolt locked back manually fine. My guess is that the finishing inside the buffer tube was a little thick and either slowing the bolt enought that it wouldn't lock back, or the buffer was a tad bit long. Either way it worked out in the end. Maybe it just needs to wear in?
  10. I did this twice in one Area match... What can I say.. I am a slow learner. My rule is all mags that are on the ground stay in my hands until I get back to my range bag, the mag in the gun at the end of the stage I simply let drop to the ground at "unload show clear". I will pick everything up after. After all stages all mags, used or not come off the belt and get checked and topped off, and Barney mag stays in my pocket. But I usually top this one off as well. I am determined not to do that ever again.
  11. I still blow matches. The one thing to remember is that the odds of Murphy poking his ugly head out and making your equipment choke increases about 500% after the buzzer. As long as your safe it's all good.
  12. I am running my Tripp mags in a 9mm Trojan and have never had a problem with that combo. They kinda look similar to the Wilson ETM's. The Tripps work out to be a bit cheaper if you buy a few at a time. And mine fit with a S&A magwell and the STI/ED Brown/Fusion magwell.
  13. I just bought one of these guns in 9mm. And other than some occasional mag related nose dives it has been flawless. The trigger needs work, and the thumb safety needs some work. But it runs 100% with any kind of ammo. This made my buddy want to order one. His .40 model came in and he also ordered 5 new 10 round Tripp mags, in .40 (because he does not always have access to a reloader to load long ammo). Hs gun will not fire more than 2 rounds in a row. It will not work with the Tripp mags, nor the Mec-Gar it came with. However the malfunction is different than whats described. The top of the bullet gets wedged against the top of the chamber. Basically the round is facing upwards at about a 45 degree forward angle. Sometimes if you give the slide a little push with your thumb it will go into battery. Sometimes it is harder to clear. It sounds like he is having the exact opposite problem then was previously experienced. Anybody have any ideas to fix this? He is quite discouraged that he spent over a grand and got a single shot pistol.
  14. I was at a club level steel match this evening, and a situation arose that made me think of how to safely handle this situation. I will explain. At the buzzer the shooter leaves box A, and steps on an activator. The activator starts a swinger that swings in front of the targets. The the shooter runs to a chair, picks up is gun from the table and starts shooting. The gun starts loaded, flat, and safe. The loaded gun is pointing directly at the swinger from it's start postion. At the buzzer the shooter steps on the activator and then is stopped because they forgot to reset the swinger. So the RO directs someone to go downrange. The shooter returns to his start box, and waits. After I pointed out that his firearm was still loaded and facing the swinger the RO positions herself behind the gun with her arms up. I understand that if something needs reset the RO can have the shooter put their hands on their head with a holstered gun. But if the gun is pointing directly at the target that is being reset isn't that a massive safety issue? If you were running the stage, how would you handle it?
