  1. Congrats Bruce! I love the setup, the only thing I regretted was not doing it sooner
  2. They are longer, with more distance between the coils so the striker hits under more spring compression. Scott, What's the difference between your new springs and the stock ones?
  3. TSA Firearm policy vid Thought some of you might find this interesting.
  4. No, but it won't compress fully so you might want to use a little more spring. Barsto, SA, and we use the same guide rod design with a built up head.
  5. I was watching a show on the Discovery Channel about vision. They showed a guy who lost his vision and they were recently able to rewire his eyes so he could see again. After the operation the "turn the lights on" and he can't recognize anything, he can see, but since it had been 40 years since his last sight, he couldn't tell what anything was. He had no visual memory. Most of what we "see" is not what we actually see, but what our brain tells us it should be. To make a long story short, a lot of our vision is influenced by our memory of what something "should" look like, so in an instant we recognize it, and there is no need to get but a glimpse to recognize an object if we have seen it enough times. They showed some example and it made sense. I think this is why season shooters have an advantage, they've seen the sight picture enough to make a decision quicker. So in summary, the more you practice "seeing" your sights, the quicker you will see them, because sight is linked to memory. I think that also has something to do why good shooters can make amazing shots and not remember seeing anything, it happens so fast that the brain took over and called the shot on "autopilot" because it was programmed in training to make good shots. Just something that made me think about training by making good shots and being visually aware of that.
  6. A simple rod that screws into your scope mount works well.
  7. www.springerprecision.com (or visit our sponsor page in the BE Forum sponsor section.) We also have two new striker springs that will allow you some more flexibility in the recoil spring that you use. 10 Ring, Try shooting a round without the magazine in, if it dribbles out the bottom of the mag well, there might be something else (non spring related) going on that can be fixed.
  8. This seems to me to be just plain false Experienced shooters just know how much of a sight picture they need, that is why they are faster. Getting a "perfect sight picture" is what takes more time. The fastest spilts (.1) and transitions I've ever had were called shots, and I've thrown a lot of blind ones too.
  9. You can add a mirror, and since you aren't grabbing for bullets, it is easy to watch the powder level. My hands just got too sore after reloading so many rounds and this was a good solution for me.
  10. Yes, that 10-15% non A hits percentage doubles (or more) when you are under stress. It think it is better to practice seeing faster. If people focus on good technique instead of shortcuts, their skills improves faster.
  11. Thanks Robert! 6.776 Masters per state average. If 10% of the masters are "extra special" then you have 33.88 people who might qualify for the extra special label. Dang, I changed my mind, that would be worth a new classification!
  12. Some clubs won't let you shoot without a classifier on record (especially if they don't know you), but I like the idea
  13. Got it, I think what you are saying beside the Nats and the S&W match the big time shooters don't show up, which makes the average M shooter feel over classed when they do. I figured they must be out there, I just didn't see them in the results. I've had those conversations with top end shooter too, but around here we shoot whatever we can and have fun at it as there aren't as many matches and the folks don't get caught up too much in the bs. When shooting IDPA I figure I'll try to drop less points than anyone else as not to be "branded." Thanks.
  14. Hey, it was my 4th IDPA match and I've only shot the classifier match twice. I missed M by .04 seconds on my second try and I suck at the IDPA reloads. Dropping mags and then putting them in your pocket isn't so good When it come down to it, I just don't see making another class for a handful of people. I don't think the classification systems work well anyway, as most courses of fire for the classifiers don't resemble the rest of the stages in a match anyway, and people try to "manage" their classifications. I guess the more I shoot the less I care about classification This looks like it would be class that rarely anyone would show up from the results I've seen.
  15. I'm not sure what match you are referring too, but if you go through the major matches and use a large data set, your results will be much different. I looked at 20 matches to get enough data to draw my statistical conclusions. Few matches had more than 5 masters in a Division and most had 1-3.
  16. Yup, that just about sums it up. Isn't that why each classification allows you to compete with equal skilled individuals? Right now, MA in IDPA is not so equal. If it doesn't change so be it. I'll just keep shooting and training. But, making a change like this can only help the sport, IMO. Dick Did you go and look at the major match results and the spread in the Master class? It is no more than any other class, and less than most of them.
  17. He made the Converse All-Star shoe. If you do a search here you will find he is an old timer who was pretty good.
  18. Matt, Some people don't want to use logic. In reality is might create a class for a handful of guys. I went through the major match results for 2007, and there aren't an abundance of Masters in IDPA. If it is so easy to make Master I would think the percentage of Master shooters would be much higher. If IDPA master is so easy to make, then the majority of IDPA shooters are just of a very poor skill level according to the numbers from the match results. I think if everyone who thinks there should be a GM class did this, then they would see there isn't much more than 10% difference in score when there were multiple masters.
  19. So. Why should any "master" feel bad about being beaten by a better shooter? Getting beat by a lower classed shooter might be embarrassing, but there is no shame in losing to a better shooter. I would imagine that most masters only care about overall finish, but that is just my observation. I've lost to Dave a bunch and never once felt bad about not having a chance to beat him. I haven't put in the work he does, so why should I expect to beat him?
  20. Matt, Mall Ninjas are "Secret Commando Elite Death Killers." Ultimate (because it is the end all supreme classification in the system) Tactical (IDPA's favorite term for the slow way of doing things) Elite (best of the best again since Master is not enough and Master Master isn't as cool sounding) Shooters (because when it comes do to it, it is still about the shooting.)
  21. I would go for "Ultimate Tactical Elite Shooter" not GM. If you add GM, then folks will want you to add Pro and so on and so on. I don't get the "add another category because I won't win unless you do" attitude. If you can't beat other people in your class, then just accept the fact that there are better shooters than you and just go shoot and have fun.
