  1. A customer sent this in; XD 9MM Tactical, .380 loaded as a 9mm, case failure, really tweaked out extractor.
  2. hahaha I just read the title. I've never heard anyone say thousands PF before, live and learn
  3. divided by 1000, so ballparking it, his 156 grain bullet would need to go 67500 fps...
  4. Well, the SS is soft, so if it is dinged up, a coating won't stop the dings, as when you gouge out the metal, the coating will follow. DLC will work well on the outside though.
  5. How much do you miss and what material is your mag well?
  6. 105,000 Power factor? Methinks you would need a bigger gun to get there, much, much bigger.
  7. What type of rear sight cut do you have? Can you post a photo?
  8. Yes, he was crest fallen, as he was planning on restoring it with his son (the reason it was blasted) but it seemed to be missing some parts. Thanks all, I'll forward the link to him so he knows what he has.
  9. A customer comes in wanting some help rebuilding a "gun that was found on the beaches of Iwo Jima" by his dad. I'm pretty sure that wasn't the case, but I figured someone here might know what this really is, so here are a couple photos. He honestly was disappointing that it wasn't used in the war, and even more so that it wasn't even a real gun, so I told him I would try to get some info on it for him, since his dad has passed already.
  10. I don't run out with two full sized blast cabinets running at the same time
  11. Item # 5527K27 from McMaster-Carr worked well for a a bench top and was pretty decent quality. I'll moan about compressor capacity, because not having enough air sucks if you care about time or consistency. I now have a 10HP 3 phase rotary screw compressor and 160 gallons of tank. I have plenty of air now, but remember how frustrating it was not having an adequate air supply for blasting.
  12. I agree with Dan, the sandblaster cabinet doesn't matter much, having a lot of air does.
  13. +1. MSC sucked up J&L a couple of years ago, and I've heard they also own Enco. Products range from so-so "quality import" to top of the line $$$$$. The current MSC catalog is 2338 pages (including index) of goodies. Watch the specials. They do "25% off 5 or more items" every couple of months, and some even better deals on orders above a minimum $ value. Keep a want list, and order several items at the same time. There is a $11 or so "handling charge" on EVERY order--large or small. They also do "next day air at ground rate" as a shipping option. If you have a commercial account, you will get a couple faxes a week with "specials." I agree on the "want list" I've saved a ton of money by watching the sale fliers.
  14. I think that just changing things sometimes make you pay attention, thus you shoot better. I'm not convinced there is a huge difference between an .100 or a .090 or anything close. I'm not a fan or the .115 rear and find for action shooting .125 - .165 works as long as I scale the front sight accordingly.
  15. Ok, second one was better, but he seems to be ignorant of what has and hasn't been done. My wife chirping in my ear how stupid they make gunsmiths look like might have skewed my perspective a bit
  16. As a gunsmith, I would say it totally depends on if you care how it looks and what your time is worth. I have some gawd awful self fit parts come into the shop and some superbly fit by hand parts.
  17. I actually made it because of SWAT team requests that wanted to have non penetrating rounds in one mag and non-penetrating on the other. I didn't really envision it for run-n-gun. 30 rounds isn't bad, but 40 gets a bit heavy.
  18. You could try Rene at http://speedshooter.com/
  19. How about just handing out blue ribbons to everyone when they sign up? If you are only a lowly master and don't put in the work the better masters do, then people should feel sorry for you, boo hoo, go practice or stop whining. The deep end of the pool is very deep and if you are in that end of the pool why do you even care about the class system? Be a winner not a whiner.
  20. I'm in the same boat as Action Pistolero is, not a very dominant eye. Blocking one eye is the only way to get a crisp sight picture for me., and it doesn't slow me down.
