What sort of velocity difference are you seeing with the 221 between the XP and the 700?

I haven’t choronographed either yet. At the time load development was done by groups at distance.

IF I have a complete burn in 10” there should be about 400 fps. Since I’m getting ready to do load development I’ll shoot them both to find out.

I always thought the 221 Fireball should have been more popular than it was/is. A modern case (easy to form from 223 with good performance.

I love my fireball’s. TC, XP-100, and REM 700 Classic. Very economical to shoot and accurate. Mine love 40g pills and H335

  3. I’m looking at replacing/supplementing my Ohler 33 with one.  Size and not having to close the range to set up/adjust/pick up from the ground (wind) are BIG reasons along with not shooting the screens.

Members of The Sniper’s Hide have been very happy with the ones received, although there have been some teething issues.  It has been tested against other chronographs by members and has given consistent readings when compared to other options.

I also like the 100 fps to 5000 fps range of the unit.

Now to recover from the rear main seal and transmission rebuilds and I will be getting one.

  4. Actually @Dranoel, it was David Allen Coke’s version

I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone claim that the World Shoot was a hoser-fest. At a World Shoot half the stages are small/short courses and a third are medium stages.

@BritinUSA, it is a Different Action Shooting Sport that went that way. I actually shoot USPSA, NRA Silhouette and Muzzleloader Rendezvous for fun and relaxation after MDing two matches a month of the other sport.

I guess that I was trying to reemphasize Chalet’s point about keeping things challenging, but not turning off the new shooter. Just because XX match does it this way, doesn’t make it a fit for our club.

  6. @CHA-LEE,  You are shining a big spotlight on what I’ve observed over the last 30 years in shooting sports.

I’ve watched another sport go from creative and fun stages to a hoser fest because “these were the stages at the World shoot”, forgetting that the World shoot was mostly Top guns and trying to manage an ever increasing number of shooters in a couple days of shooting.

It seems that USPSA is moving in the same direction, geared towards the top 10% and high end gear. It is a challenge for those of us shooting Single Stack/Revolver. Not knocking the need to develop a GOOD stage plan, but it has a tendency to scare off the new shooter who is coming out with bare bones Production/SS gear.

I don’t expect to be anything more than a “C” class shooter because I’m shooting too many disciplines and M.D.ing two matches a month, but want to grow ALL of the shooting sports

It sucks that we are still having to talk about this.  Of course I'm also paying $4.59 a gallon for diesel.

I’m bumping $6.00/gal for Diesel  right now.

I’ll keep reloading because I’m still able to shoot 2x as much vs. factory.  This also takes into account shooting Cowboy loads in 38 Spl and 357 Mag which have been unobtainium for the last couple of years.

Until recently, just try and find 20 gauge “Non-Tox” shot shells to hunt with.  My Mec 600 Jr and Grabber have had the dust blown off and been brought back into use. Sportsman has Bismuth Upland loads at $50-75 for a box of 25. 🤯

  8. I’m still seeing them and using them, but…..

This is at NMLRA matches and some of the NRA Silhouette matches that don’t allow optics. Oh, also at the various Rendezvous.

  9. @Merlin Orr,

How has the Grendel done for you on the 500m Rams?  Are you using any special ammo for them?

When I was doing load development for my Dad, I was able to get a decent for me group on the static ram at the range. They were all in the heart lung area of the Silhouette. This was running Hornady Black with the 123g ELDM.
