  1. Anyone know of a source for the CNC tool heads for the 650? I've seen them somewhere on the forums.
  2. I get acceptable (to me) results dry tumbling in mixed media for 2-3 hrs with liquid car polish and mineral spirits added. Brass is clean and looks good without the extra time and steps involved in wet tumbling. I've never found it worthwhile to clean brass beyond that. Gandof
  3. If you're loading for USPSA and 3 gun, you need a progressive. The ultimate is the 650, the minimum is the LNL AP, both with a case feeder. Stay far, far, away from any other red press that calls it's self a progressive. Gandof
  4. I've been using Promo for the last couple of years. I bought a case of 8# jugs at $88 per jug. It doesn't meter well in small charges but if works well across the range of bullet weights and types. It's not the best, but it works in 9/.40/.45 equally well using Red Dot load data.
  5. I often shoot my 85 Combat in SSP or production. Mine has a trigger job, Dawson FO front sight, SA hammer, and the thin Aluma grips. Shoots whatever reload I put in it, and does it well. I use a RLN custom holster.
  6. I've been loading Promo in 9/40/45 for the last couple of years due to availability. It does a decent job in pistol calibers. It is dirty, and difficult to meter consistantly below 3.5 gns or so in a Dillon or Lee Pro Auto Disk measures.
  7. I'm using a Dillon measure for rifle, and using (Gasp!) Lee Pro Auto Disc measures for my pistol tool heads. Consistent drops, quick volume changes and inexpensive. I'm mounting the measures in station 3 when using the Lee's. (650)
  8. It's a "Must Have" on the 650. Sent from my KFTHWI using Tapatalk HD
  9. The rounds in the pictures are definitely not fully chambered. It can only be one of three things: Sizing/Crimp/OAL. Check them all before moving on. Good luck!
  10. I have a Lone Wolf 9mm barrel for my 35. I've put about 3k rds through it without a malfunction. I've run it with both the 9mm and .40 ejectors/extractors and it made no difference in reliability. Only real downside is the 9mm barrel doesn't shoot to the sights. I've installed the Heine Slant Pro and a Dawson FO front that's sighted to the .40. It's not off much, just enough to be annoying. Still close enough for the "A" at 20yds, but easy to miss a head shot at that range.
  11. Can't go wrong with these guys. I ran the Sevigny Warren for awhile and liked it alot, my current setup that I like even better is the regular Heinie .125 notch rear sight paired up with an Ameriglo or Dawson .090 wide/.215 high front sight, same light bar proportions as the Sevigny's but smaller. Running a G17, I like Sevignys better on a 34. The proportions there are .150 rear/.115 front. Yep, Heinie .125 Slant Pro and .090 wide Dawson Fiber Optic on my 34/35. Warren tactical fixed on my 19, fiber optic front. Fast on target and precise enough on the long shots.
  12. better yet I shoot through my chrono from a bench and onto a target. When I leave the range I know what worked and what didn' +1
  13. I use a little "Nu Finish" liquid car wax in my tumbling media, slicks up the brass pretty well. Still use a little "One Shot" from time to time before loading. Either way, it makes the old 650 run smoother.
  14. I don't sort by head stamp, clean primer pockets, or trim pistol brass. I clean and uniform primer pockets and trim to length rifle brass. It works fine for my applications with 5.56. If I were shooting precision rifle games I'd likely do more.
  15. BUG rules make IDPA into an equipment race. In no way is an LCP or a J frame (Real BUGs) competive with a k/L frame revolver or a 3.8 auto. I have several autos that fall under the 3.8" limit. Among them are a Glock 36 and a 3" 1911. Both of which shoot about as well as some fullsize pistols. Neither of which have I ever carried as a backup. I'll continue to shoot my P3ATs/PF9/J frames, guns that might actually be used as BUGs. Not to take anything away from Miculek. he likely would have won with a J frame.
  16. Also make sure your target is tight against the cardboard backing. If it's a little slack you'll often get tears around the bullet hole.
  17. Are you loading for major power factor, too? I'm curious because I've never had the problem with primers coming out, but I've only loaded minor. Seems like I would have had at least one come out over the years since I use range brass, and I'm sure I've picked up some brass along the way that's been reloaded at major power factor, or have I just been lucky. So far, seems like it's the 9mm major crowd that's having the problem. I don't load major in 9mm, but a lot of guys do. My brass is range brass picked up when we tear down after a match. It has become more common these days with shooters moving away from the Supers and Super Comps to the 9mm @ major PF.
  18. With a fast powder, I'd be concerned with pressure spikes when the .002+ oversize bullet engages the rifling. Especially with jacketed or heavy plated bullets. Likely no problem with lead. I measure my bores and go with .001 over groove size. I haven't run any bullets at the .002+ so just my speculation.
  19. I run into loose primer pockets in 9mm brass frequently. I load on a 650, so I usually catch them by feel when loading. Occasionally, I miss one, only to find it at a match when I'm loading magazines. Tumbling after loading might just a good way to prevent the problem.
  20. I just finished using up the last of 15k of the Wolf SSP with no problems until the last thousand or so rds. I had 5 FTFs out of those in a Glock 34. I had zero failures with the same ammo in my CZ and 1911. I'm pretty sure I got careless and failed to properly seat the primers on the last K. I would order them again if the price is right. I know we're talking about Tula primers, but the Wolf primers are made in the same facility. I'm assuming they are pretty much the same?
  21. I run the Heinie .125 with the Dawson .090 FO on my Glock 35. Works great, fast to aquire, and easy to shoot well.
  22. Always weak hand thumb. As i seat the magazine it's already in position to hit the release, and hopefully, my strong hand has reaquired a shooting grip.
  23. I load the LSWC 200gn exclusively. I have found it to be the most accurate bullet in any .45 I've tried them in. I haven't had a feed problem with this bullet profile in any of my 1911s in the past 20yrs. These bullets loaded to the proper OAL and crimped correctly should run in any 1911 of current manufacture. If not, the gun needs attention. I'm currently running the Missouri Bullets 200gn LSWC with good results. Can't help you with a plated/jacketed bullet recommendation, I haven't loaded those in quite some time. Good luck!
  24. I use the "U" die and the factory crimp on both the 9 and 40. I use very little crimp, and have tested ammo loaded both with and without the FCD with no noticable difference in accuracy. I chamber check all my ammo. Any rounds that do not chamber easily are sorted out to be run through the FCD on a single stage, adjusting the die until the round chambers easily. These rounds go in the practice bucket and are not used in matches.
