Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. would like to see a green dot as i am really curuois if it will make dot acquistion better
  2. IMO, i would go with a 16 ultra light, a free flot tube and your choice of BCG. a SS or chrome lined would be fine. i build a buddy 16 ultra light just for the fun using a barrel from Bravo company and when we benched it, it was MOA all the time. comparing it with my CTR or JP15, ehh, no comparison, one would see the accuracy of this custom guns on paper but on a match wherein the farthest target was 250, hits on steel all the time. so it can done and you will like the weight savings of this setup. heck you can use a 14.5 and suppressed it if you wish and still get the accuracy you need
  3. I shoot 2 load too, 55 and 69. would like to try someday 77G
  4. STI trubors are great Open guns. i have seen it in the hands of grandmasters and it really really works. however. may i say, the common caliber that seems to be used are 9mm instead of 38 super. i am not saying it will not work with a 38 super, but it seemed to me (maybe it just me) that most trubor owners are running it on 9mm . very accurate indeed
  5. ++1 on the Jard. if you are mechanically inclined, the jard will serve you well. i have 2011 that have 1lbs triggers and Jard make you think you have a 2011 i also like the geissle, but i only have 1 ( the 3G model) but have mostly Jards.
  6. if cost is an issue, i would look at the 18 DPMS midweight available at Midwayusa. i have the sass 18 for the 308 and that is surely a pig. there are lot of barrels out there that perform well. weight is the issue as it plays out how it balances ( the whole gun after you build it) on your hands. if you are going to shoot out to 200 on a normal match, then you might want something light. for me, the only reason why you may want something a bit heavy is it balance out your weapon and softens the recoil a bit. most people say that the 223 recoil is already soft but it still can be made softer but at the expense of weight. i hightly recommend the Nordic 18 lightweight too, as i have them myself. very accurate. i am still biased with JP CTR02 (my favorite) configured with a lightweight contour 18"
  7. to keep the whole gun (w/o optics) under 2k, 1) get a Stag 3G or 2) get a DPMS 3G 3) i think you can get the Jp15 at this price if you have an exisitng lower receiver ready to go, well, i highly advise a JP15 CTR02 and call it done!
  8. The Loki and the Spikes have the standard amount of bearing surface = NO way I would run one. The Youngs does have more, but the JP has the most and is lighter than the Youngs super light. Any manufacturer who understands anything about the system would only offer a lightened carier with additional bearing surface. Sorry to state the obvious! +1 i have both Youngs super light and JP LMOS. the bearing surface of the JP obvously more and lighter than youngs. i have 3 LMOS and 1 youngs slc just to say the least
  9. I'm using my 6.8 in 3 gun at the moment, which is the gun I use for hunting. I'm also using my ported with and optic Mossberg pump action turkey gun. Is it ideal to be competitive? No, but hell you're not going to win your first 3 gun match anyways. Honestly if you don't get DQ'd and come in last, you did great. Has it been fun to experience 3 gun and get an idea of the sport? Yes My advice as a guy who is a match or two in front of you. Grab what you have and go to a match, be safe, and have fun. This will also give you a chance to see the different guns and gear. +1 give it a try first and see how you feel about 3Gun. then spend later
  10. we have skinnys at 150 to 200 in our local matches. move alot of air prior to taking the position and if all possible, during your walkthrough, find a solid position to put your rifle in specially when you are hitting skinnys. shooting those poppers, you have a little bit more headroom on the vertical as left and right. and depending where they are placed (like ours is in the ground and not painted at all) those things gets blended in the foilage. arrghh. so if you have stable positions (as for most long range shots anyways) you have a better chance in sighting them up and line in them up on your crosshairs. i look a skinnys as harder to shoot as compared to swingers. YMMV
  11. +1 I have a JP myself and started looking at the Loki. Loki are well built and really nice, but in the end, i got another CTR02
  12. I have started reloading only on a 550b for about 5 years and recently started using a 650. i can tell you a friend of mine uses a green colored progressive reloader and also red one. he claims that he can reload faster on his machine than my dillon. so we tried to reload 9mm and supers on his machines and mine and time the reloading process. 10/10 the dillon will out-produce the others by as much as 100 rnds more per hour. now, that is performance. and...... if his machines break, he is out of luck while mine is still cranking along..
  13. +1 on brownells. yup we spend a lot ($K) yearly with them.
